People Affirm Their Covenant with God

Then He said^H559 to Moses^H4872, “Come^H5927 up^H5927 to the LORD^H3068, you and Aaron^H175, Nadab^H5070 and Abihu^H30, and seventy^H7657 of the elders^H2205 of Israel^H3478, and you shall worship^H2331 at a distance^H7350.

Exo 24:2

Exo 24:2“Moses alone, however, shall approach the LORD, but they shall not approach, nor shall the people come up with him.”

Exo 24:3

Then Moses^H4872 came^H935 and reported^H5608 to the people^H5971 all^H3605 the words^H1697 of the LORD^H3068 and all^H3605 the [fn]ordinances^H4941; and all^H3605 the people^H5971 answered^H6030 with one^H259 voice^H6963 and said^H559, “All^H3605 the words^H1697 which^H834 the LORD^H3068 has spoken^H1696 we will do^H6213!”

Exo 24:4

Exo 24:4And Moses wrote down all the words of the LORD. Then he got up early in the morning, and built an altar [fn]at the foot of the mountain with twelve memorial stones for the twelve tribes of Israel.

Exo 24:5

Exo 24:5And he sent young men of the sons of Israel, and they offered burnt offerings and sacrificed bulls as peace offerings to the LORD.

Exo 24:6

Exo 24:6Moses took half of the blood and put it in basins, and the other half of the blood he sprinkled on the altar.

Exo 24:7

Exo 24:7Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it [fn]as the people listened; and they said, “All that the LORD has spoken we will do, and we will be obedient!”

Exo 24:8

Exo 24:8So Moses took the blood and sprinkled it on the people, and said, “Behold the blood of the covenant, which the LORD has [fn]made with you [fn]in accordance with all these words.”

Exo 24:9

Then Moses^H4872 went^H5927 up^H5927 [fn]with Aaron^H175, Nadab^H5070 and Abihu^H30, and seventy^H7657 of the elders^H2205 of Israel^H3478,

Exo 24:10

Exo 24:10and they saw the God of Israel; and under His feet [fn]there appeared to be a pavement of sapphire, [fn]as clear as the sky itself.

Exo 24:11

Exo 24:11Yet He did not reach out with His hand against the nobles of the sons of Israel; and they saw God, and they ate and drank.

Exo 24:12

Now the LORD^H3068 said^H559 to Moses^H4872, “Come^H5927 up^H5927 to Me on the mountain^H2022 and [fn]stay^H1961 there^H8033, and I will give^H5414 you the stone^H68 tablets^H3871 [fn]with the Law^H8451 and the [fn]commandments^H4687 which^H834 I have written^H3789 for their instruction^H3384.”

Exo 24:13

Exo 24:13So Moses got up [fn]along with Joshua his [fn]servant, and Moses went up to the mountain of God.

Exo 24:14

Exo 24:14But to the elders he said, “Wait here for us until we return to you. And behold, Aaron and Hur are with you; whoever [fn]has a legal matter, have him approach them.”

Exo 24:15

Exo 24:15Then Moses went up to the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain.

Exo 24:16

Exo 24:16The glory of the LORD [fn]settled on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it for six days; and on the seventh day He called to Moses from the midst of the cloud.

Exo 24:17

Exo 24:17And to the eyes of the sons of Israel, the appearance of the glory of the LORD was like a consuming fire on the mountain top.

Exo 24:18

Exo 24:18Then Moses entered the midst of the cloud [fn]as he went up to the mountain; and Moses was on the mountain for forty days and forty nights.
