A Little Foolishness

Ecc 10:2

Ecc 10:2A wise person’s heart directs him toward the right, but the foolish person’s heart directs him toward the left.

Ecc 10:3

Ecc 10:3Even when the fool walks along the road, his [fn]sense is lacking, and he [fn]demonstrates to everyone that he is a fool.

Ecc 10:4

Ecc 10:4If the ruler’s [fn]temper rises against you, do not abandon your place, because composure puts great offenses to rest.

Ecc 10:6

Ecc 10:6foolishness is set in many exalted places while the rich sit in humble places.

Ecc 10:7

Ecc 10:7I have seen slaves riding on horses and princes walking like slaves on the land.

Ecc 10:8

One who digs^H2658 a pit^H1475 may fall^H5307 into it, and a serpent^H5175 may bite^H5391 one who breaks^H6555 through^H6555 a wall^H1447.

Ecc 10:9

Ecc 10:9One who quarries stones may be hurt by them, and one who splits logs may be endangered by them.

Ecc 10:10

Ecc 10:10If the [fn]axe is dull and he does not sharpen its [fn]edge, then he must exert more strength. Wisdom has the advantage of bringing success.

Ecc 10:11

Ecc 10:11If the serpent bites [fn]before being charmed, there is no benefit for the charmer.

Ecc 10:12

Ecc 10:12Words from the mouth of a wise person are gracious, while the lips of a fool consume him;

Ecc 10:13

Ecc 10:13the beginning of [fn]his talking is foolishness, and the end of [fn]it is evil insanity.

Ecc 10:14

Ecc 10:14Yet the fool multiplies words. No person knows what will happen, and who can tell him what will come after him?

Ecc 10:15

Ecc 10:15The labor of [fn]a fool makes him so weary that he does not even know how to go to a city.

Ecc 10:16

Ecc 10:16Woe to you, land whose king is a boy, and whose princes [fn]feast in the morning.

Ecc 10:17

Ecc 10:17Blessed are you, land whose king is of nobility, and whose princes eat at the appropriate time—for strength and not for drunkenness.

Ecc 10:18

Ecc 10:18Through extreme laziness the rafters sag, and through idleness the house leaks.

Ecc 10:19

Ecc 10:19People prepare a meal for enjoyment, wine makes life joyful, and money [fn]is the answer to everything.

Ecc 10:20

Ecc 10:20Furthermore, in your bedroom do not curse a king, and in your sleeping rooms do not curse a rich person; for a bird of the sky will bring the sound, and the winged one will make your word known.
