Paul before Felix

Now^G1161 after^G3326 five^G4002 days^G2250 the high^G749 priest^G749 Ananias^G367 came^G2597 down^G2597 with some^G5100 elders^G4245 and an attorney^G4489 named Tertullus^G5061, and they [fn]brought^G1718 charges^G1718 against^G2596 Paul^G3972 to the governor^G2232.

Act 24:2

Act 24:2After [fn]Paul had been summoned, Tertullus began accusing him, saying to the governor,

“Since we have attained^G5177 great^G4183 peace^G1515 through^G1223 you, and since reforms^G2735 are being^G1096 carried^G1096 out^G1096 for this^G3778 nation^G1484 by your foresight^G4307,

Act 24:3

Act 24:3we acknowledge this in every way and everywhere, most excellent Felix, with all thankfulness.

Act 24:4

Act 24:4“But, that I may not [fn]weary you further, I beg you [fn]to grant us a brief hearing, by your kindness.

Act 24:5

Act 24:5“For we have found this man a public menace and one who stirs up dissensions among all the Jews throughout [fn]the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes.

Act 24:6

Act 24:6“And he even tried to desecrate the temple, so indeed we arrested him.

Act 24:7

Act 24:7 [fn]

Act 24:8

Act 24:8By interrogating him yourself concerning all these matters, you will be able to ascertain the things of which we are accusing him.”

Act 24:9

Act 24:9The Jews also joined in the attack, asserting that these things were so.

Act 24:10

And when the governor^G2232 had nodded^G3506 for him to speak^G3004, Paul^G3972 responded^G611:

“Knowing^G1987 that for many^G4183 years^G2094 you have been^G1510 a judge^G2923 to this^G3778 nation^G1484, I cheerfully^G6039 make^G626 my defense^G626,

Act 24:11

Act 24:11since you can take note of the fact that no more than twelve days ago I went up to Jerusalem to worship.

Act 24:12

Act 24:12“And neither in the temple did they find me carrying on a discussion with anyone or causing [fn]a riot, nor in the synagogues, nor in the city itself.

Act 24:13

Act 24:13“Nor can they prove to you the things of which they now accuse me.

Act 24:14

Act 24:14“But I confess this to you, that in accordance with [fn]the Way, which they call a sect, I do serve the God of our fathers, believing everything that is in accordance with the Law and is written in the Prophets;

Act 24:15

Act 24:15having a hope in God, which these men cherish themselves, that there shall certainly be a resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked.

Act 24:16

Act 24:16“In view of this I also do my best to maintain a blameless conscience both before God and before other people, always.

Act 24:17

Act 24:17“Now after several years I came to bring charitable gifts to my nation and to present offerings,

Act 24:18

Act 24:18in which they found me occupied in the temple, having been purified, without any crowd or uproar. But there were some Jews from [fn]Asia—

Act 24:19

Act 24:19who ought to have been present before you and to have been bringing charges, if they should have anything against me.

Act 24:20

Act 24:20“Or else have these men themselves declare what violation they discovered when I stood before the [fn]Council,

Act 24:21

Act 24:21other than in regard to this one declaration which I shouted while standing among them, ‘For the resurrection of the dead I am on trial before you today!’”

Act 24:22

But Felix^G5344, [fn]having^G6063 quite^G199 accurate^G199 knowledge^G6063 about^G4012 [fn]the Way^G3598, adjourned^G306 them, saying^G3004, “When^G3752 Lysias^G3079 the commander^G5506 comes^G2597 down^G2597, I will decide^G1231 your case^G3588^G2596.”

Act 24:23

Act 24:23He gave orders to the centurion for [fn]Paul to be kept in custody and yet have some freedom, and not to prevent any of his friends from providing for his needs.

Act 24:24

Now^G1161 some^G5100 days^G2250 later^G3326 Felix^G5344 arrived^G3854 with Drusilla^G1409 his [fn]wife^G1135, who was Jewish^G2453, and he sent^G3343 for Paul^G3972 and heard^G191 him speak about^G4012 faith^G4102 in Christ^G5547 Jesus^G2424.

Act 24:25

Act 24:25But as he was discussing righteousness, self-control, and the judgment to come, Felix became frightened and responded, “Go away for now, and when I have an opportunity, I will summon you.”

Act 24:26

Act 24:26At the same time he was also hoping that money would be given to him by Paul; therefore he also used to send for him quite often and talk with him.

Act 24:27

Act 24:27But after two years had passed, Felix [fn]was succeeded by Porcius Festus; and Felix, wanting to do the Jews a favor, left Paul imprisoned.
