Ahaz Reigns over Judah

(2Ch 28:1–27 )

In the seventeenth^H7651^H6240 year^H8141 of Pekah^H6492 the son^H1121 of Remaliah^H7425, Ahaz^H271 the son^H1121 of Jotham^H3147, king^H4428 of Judah^H3063, became^H4427 king^H4427.

2Ki 16:2

2Ki 16:2Ahaz was twenty years old when he became king, and he reigned for sixteen years in Jerusalem; and he did not do what was right in the sight of the LORD his God, as his father David had done.

2Ki 16:3

2Ki 16:3But he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, and he even made his son pass through the fire, in accordance with the abominations of the nations whom the LORD had [fn]driven out before the sons of Israel.

2Ki 16:4

2Ki 16:4And he sacrificed and burned incense on the high places, on the hills, and under every green tree.

2Ki 16:5

Then^H227 Rezin^H7526 the king^H4428 of Aram^H758 and Pekah^H6492 the son^H1121 of Remaliah^H7425, king^H4428 of Israel^H3478, went^H5927 up^H5927 to Jerusalem^H3389 for war^H4421; and they besieged^H6696^H5921 Ahaz^H271, but [fn]were^H3201 not capable^H3201 of fighting^H3898 him.

2Ki 16:6

2Ki 16:6At that time Rezin king of Aram restored Elath to Aram, and drove the Judeans away from [fn]Elath; and the [fn]Arameans came to Elath and have lived there to this day.

Ahaz Seeks Help of Assyria

2Ki 16:7

So Ahaz^H271 sent^H7971 messengers^H4397 to Tiglath-pileser^H8407 king^H4428 of Assyria^H804, saying^H559, “I am your servant^H5650 and your son^H1121; come^H5927 up^H5927 and save^H3467 me from the [fn]hand^H3709 of the king^H4428 of Aram^H758, and from the [fn]hand^H3709 of the king^H4428 of Israel^H3478, who are rising^H6965 up^H6965 against^H5921 me.”

2Ki 16:8

2Ki 16:8And Ahaz took the silver and gold that was found in the house of the LORD and in the treasuries of the king’s house, and sent a gift to the king of Assyria.

2Ki 16:9

2Ki 16:9So the king of Assyria listened to him; and the king of Assyria went up against Damascus and captured it, and led the people of it into exile to Kir, and put Rezin to death.

2Ki 16:10

Now King^H4428 Ahaz^H271 went^H1980 to Damascus^H1834 to meet^H7122 Tiglath-pileser^H8407 king^H4428 of Assyria^H804, and he saw^H7200 the altar^H4196 which^H834 was at Damascus^H1834; and King^H4428 Ahaz^H271 sent^H7971 to Urijah^H223 the priest^H3548 the [fn]pattern^H1823 of the altar^H4196 and its model^H8403, according to all^H3605 its workmanship^H4639.

2Ki 16:11

2Ki 16:11So Urijah the priest built an altar; according to everything that King Ahaz had sent from Damascus, in that way Urijah the priest made it, [fn]before the coming of King Ahaz from Damascus.

2Ki 16:12

2Ki 16:12And when the king came from Damascus, the king saw the altar; then the king approached the altar and [fn]went up to it,

2Ki 16:13

2Ki 16:13and [fn]burned his burnt offering and his meal offering, and poured out his [fn]drink offering and sprinkled the blood of his peace offerings on the altar.

2Ki 16:14

2Ki 16:14And the bronze altar, which was before the LORD, [fn]he brought from the front of the house, from between his altar and the house of the LORD, and he put it on the north side of his altar.

2Ki 16:15

2Ki 16:15Then King Ahaz commanded Urijah the priest, saying, “Upon the great altar [fn]burn the morning burnt offering, the evening meal offering, the king’s burnt offering and his meal offering, with the burnt offering of all the people of the land, their meal offering, and their [fn]drink offerings; and sprinkle on it all the blood of the burnt offering and all the blood of the sacrifice. But the bronze altar shall be for me, for making inquiries.”

2Ki 16:16

2Ki 16:16So Urijah the priest acted in accordance with everything that King Ahaz commanded.

2Ki 16:17

Then King^H4428 Ahaz^H271 cut^H7112 off^H7112 the borders^H4526 of the stands^H4350, and removed^H5493 the wash^H3595 basin^H3595 from them; he also took^H3381 down^H3381 the [fn]Sea^H3220 from the bronze^H5178 oxen^H1241 which^H834 were under^H8478 it and put^H5414 it on a pavement^H4837 of stone^H68.

2Ki 16:18

2Ki 16:18And the covered way for the Sabbath which they had built in the house, and the outer entry of the king, he removed from the house of the LORD because of the king of Assyria.

Hezekiah Reigns over Judah

2Ki 16:19

2Ki 16:19Now as for the rest of the acts of Ahaz which he did, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?

2Ki 16:20

2Ki 16:20So Ahaz [fn]lay down with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David; and his son Hezekiah reigned in his place.
