A Call to Prayer

1Ti 2:1

1Ti 2:1

First of all, then, I urge that requests, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made in behalf of all people,

1Ti 2:2

1Ti 2:2for kings and all who are in [fn]authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and [fn]dignity.

1Ti 2:3

1Ti 2:3This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,

1Ti 2:4

1Ti 2:4who wants all people to be saved and to come to the [fn]knowledge of the truth.

1Ti 2:5

1Ti 2:5For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and mankind, the Man Christ Jesus,

1Ti 2:6

1Ti 2:6who gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony [fn]given at [fn]the proper time.

1Ti 2:7

1Ti 2:7For this I was appointed as a [fn]preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying), as a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.

Instructions for Believers

1Ti 2:8

1Ti 2:8

Therefore I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands, without anger and dispute.

1Ti 2:9

1Ti 2:9Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, [fn]modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or expensive apparel,

1Ti 2:10

1Ti 2:10but rather by means of good works, as is proper for women making a claim to godliness.

1Ti 2:11

1Ti 2:11A woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness.

1Ti 2:12

1Ti 2:12But I do not allow a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet.

1Ti 2:13

1Ti 2:13For it was Adam who was first [fn]created, and then Eve.

1Ti 2:14

1Ti 2:14And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman was [fn]deceived and [fn]became a wrongdoer.

1Ti 2:15

1Ti 2:15But [fn]women will be [fn]preserved through [fn]childbirth—if they continue in faith, love, and sanctity, with moderation.
