God’s Promise and Warning

Now it came^H1961 about^H1961 when Solomon^H8010 had finished^H3615 building^H1129 the house^H1004 of the LORD^H3068 and the king’s^H4428 house^H1004, and all^H3605 [fn]that Solomon^H8010 desired^H2837^H2654 to do^H6213,

1Ki 9:2

1Ki 9:2that the LORD appeared to Solomon a second time, as He had appeared to him at Gibeon.

1Ki 9:3

1Ki 9:3And the LORD said to him, “I have heard your prayer and your plea which you have offered before Me; I have consecrated this house which you have built, by putting My name there forever, and My eyes and My heart will be there [fn]always.

1Ki 9:4

1Ki 9:4“As for you, if you walk before Me as your father David walked, in integrity of heart and honesty, acting in accordance with everything that I have commanded you, and if you keep My statutes and My ordinances,

1Ki 9:5

1Ki 9:5then I will establish the throne of your kingdom over Israel forever, just as I [fn]promised to your father David, saying, ‘[fn]You shall not be deprived of a man on the throne of Israel.’

1Ki 9:6

“But if^H518 you or your sons^H1121 indeed^H7725 turn^H7725 away^H7725 from following^H310 Me, and do not keep^H8104 My commandments^H4687 and My statutes^H2708 which^H834 I have placed^H5414 before^H6440 you, but you go^H1980 and serve^H5647 other^H312 gods^H430 and worship^H2331 them,

1Ki 9:7

1Ki 9:7then I will cut Israel off from the land which I have given them, and the house which I have consecrated for My name, I will [fn]expel from My sight. So Israel will become a saying and an object of derision among all peoples.

1Ki 9:8

1Ki 9:8“And this house will become a heap of ruins; everyone who passes by it will be appalled and [fn]hiss and say, ‘Why has the LORD done such a thing to this land and this house?’

1Ki 9:9

1Ki 9:9“And they will say, ‘Because they abandoned the LORD their God, who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and they [fn]adopted other gods and worshiped and served them, for that reason the LORD has brought all this adversity on them.’”

Now it came^H1961 about^H1961 at the end^H7097 of twenty^H6242 years^H8141 in which^H834 Solomon^H8010 had built^H1129 the two^H8147 houses^H1004, the house^H1004 of the LORD^H3068 and the king’s^H4428 house^H1004

1Ki 9:11

1Ki 9:11(Hiram king of Tyre had supplied Solomon with cedar and juniper timber and gold, [fn]satisfying all his desire), that King Solomon then gave Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee.

1Ki 9:12

1Ki 9:12So Hiram left Tyre to see the cities which Solomon had given him, and they [fn]did not please him.

1Ki 9:13

1Ki 9:13And he said, “What are these cities which you have given me, my brother?” So [fn]they have been called the land of [fn]Cabul to this day.

1Ki 9:14

1Ki 9:14And Hiram sent to the king [fn]120 talents of gold.

Now this^H2088 is the account^H1697 of the forced^H4522 labor^H4522 which^H834 King^H4428 Solomon^H8010 conscripted^H5927 to build^H1129 the house^H1004 of the LORD^H3068, his own house^H1004, the [fn]Millo^H4407, the wall^H2346 of Jerusalem^H3389, Hazor^H2674, Megiddo^H4023, and Gezer^H1507.

1Ki 9:16

1Ki 9:16For Pharaoh king of Egypt had gone up and overthrown Gezer and burned it with fire, and killed the Canaanites who lived in the city; and he had given it as a dowry to his daughter, Solomon’s wife.

1Ki 9:17

1Ki 9:17So Solomon rebuilt Gezer and the lower Beth-horon,

1Ki 9:18

1Ki 9:18and Baalath and Tamar in the wilderness, in the land of Judah,

1Ki 9:19

1Ki 9:19and all the storage cities which Solomon had, that is, the cities for [fn]his chariots and the cities for [fn]his horsemen, and [fn]everything that it pleased Solomon to build in Jerusalem, in Lebanon, and in all the land [fn]under his rule.

1Ki 9:20

1Ki 9:20As for all the people who were left of the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, who were not of the sons of Israel,

1Ki 9:21

1Ki 9:21their descendants who were left after them in the land, whom the sons of Israel were unable to completely eliminate, from them Solomon conscripted forced laborers, as they are to this day.

1Ki 9:22

1Ki 9:22But Solomon did not make slaves of the sons of Israel; for they were men of war, his servants, his commanders, his charioteers, his chariot commanders, and his horsemen.

1Ki 9:23

These^H428 were the [fn]chief^H8269 officers^H5324 who^H834 were in^H5921 charge^H5921 of^H5921 Solomon’s^H8010 work^H4399, 550^H2568^H3967^H2572, who ruled^H7287 over the people^H5971 doing^H6213 the work^H4399.

1Ki 9:24

As soon^H389 as Pharaoh’s^H6547 daughter^H1323 came^H5927 up^H5927 from the city^H5892 of David^H1732 to her house^H1004 which^H834 Solomon had built^H1129 for her, he then^H227 built^H1129 the Millo^H4407.

1Ki 9:25

Now three^H7969 times^H6471 a year^H8141 Solomon^H8010 offered^H5927 burnt^H5930 offerings^H5930 and peace^H8002 offerings^H8002 on the altar^H4196 which^H834 he had built^H1129 for the LORD^H3068, burning^H6999 incense^H6999 with them on the altar which^H834 was before^H6440 the LORD^H3068. So he finished^H7999 the house^H1004.

1Ki 9:26

King^H4428 Solomon^H8010 also built^H6213 a fleet^H590 of^H590 ships^H590 in Ezion-geber^H6100, which^H834 is near^H854 Eloth^H359 on the shore^H8193 of the [fn]Red^H5488 Sea^H3220, in the land^H776 of Edom^H123.

1Ki 9:27

1Ki 9:27And Hiram sent his servants with the fleet, sailors who knew the sea, along with the servants of Solomon.

1Ki 9:28

1Ki 9:28And they went to Ophir and received [fn]420 talents of gold from there, and brought it to King Solomon.
