1Ki 4:1

Now King^H4428 Solomon^H8010 was king^H4428 over^H5921 all^H3605 Israel^H3478.

1Ki 4:2

1Ki 4:2These were his officials: Azariah the son of Zadok was the priest;

1Ki 4:3

1Ki 4:3Elihoreph and Ahijah, the sons of Shisha were scribes; Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was the secretary;

1Ki 4:4

1Ki 4:4and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the army; and Zadok and Abiathar were priests;

1Ki 4:5

1Ki 4:5and Azariah the son of Nathan was over the deputies; and Zabud the son of Nathan, a priest, was the king’s confidant;

1Ki 4:6

1Ki 4:6and Ahishar was over the household; and Adoniram the son of Abda was over the forced labor.

1Ki 4:7

Solomon^H8010 had twelve^H8147^H6240 deputies^H5324 over^H5921 all^H3605 Israel^H3478, who provided^H3557 food^H3557 for the king^H4428 and his household^H1004; each^H259 deputy had^H1961^H5921 to provide^H3557 food^H3557 for a month^H2320 in the year^H8141.

1Ki 4:8

1Ki 4:8And these were their names: Ben-hur, in the hill country of Ephraim;

1Ki 4:9

1Ki 4:9Ben-deker in Makaz and Shaalbim, and Beth-shemesh, and Elonbeth-hanan;

1Ki 4:10

1Ki 4:10Ben-hesed in Arubboth (Socoh was his and all the land of Hepher);

1Ki 4:11Ben-abinadab in all [fn]the hills of Dor (Taphath the daughter of Solomon was his wife);

1Ki 4:13Ben-geber in Ramoth-gilead (the villages of Jair, the son of Manasseh, which are in Gilead were his: the region of Argob, which is in Bashan, sixty great cities with walls and bronze bars were his);

1Ki 4:14Ahinadab the son of Iddo in Mahanaim;

1Ki 4:15

1Ki 4:15Ahimaaz in Naphtali (he also married Basemath the daughter of Solomon);

1Ki 4:16

1Ki 4:16Baana the son of Hushai in Asher and [fn]Bealoth;

1Ki 4:17

1Ki 4:17Jehoshaphat the son of Paruah in Issachar;

1Ki 4:18

1Ki 4:18Shimei the son of Ela in Benjamin;

1Ki 4:19

1Ki 4:19Geber the son of Uri in the land of Gilead, the country of Sihon king of the Amorites and of Og king of Bashan; and he was the only deputy who was in the land.

Solomon’s Power, Wealth, and Wisdom

1Ki 4:20

Judah^H3063 and Israel^H3478 were as numerous^H7227 as the sand^H2344 that is on the [fn]seashore^H3220 in abundance^H7230; they were eating^H398, drinking^H8354, and rejoicing^H8056.

1Ki 4:21

[fn]Now Solomon^H8010 was ruling^H4910 over all^H3605 the kingdoms^H4467 from the Euphrates River^H5104 to the land^H776 of the Philistines^H6430 and to the border^H1366 of Egypt^H4714; they brought^H5066 tribute^H4503 and served^H5647 Solomon^H8010 all^H3605 the days^H3117 of his life^H2416.

1Ki 4:22

Solomon’s^H8010 [fn]provision^H3899 for one^H259 day^H3117 was [fn]thirty^H7970 kors^H3734 of fine^H5560 flour^H5560 and [fn]sixty^H8346 kors^H3734 of meal^H7058,

1Ki 4:23

1Ki 4:23ten fat oxen, twenty [fn]pasture-fed oxen, and a hundred sheep, besides deer, gazelles, roebucks, and fattened geese.

1Ki 4:24

1Ki 4:24For he was ruling over everything [fn]west of the Euphrates River, from Tiphsah even to Gaza, over all the kings [fn]west of the River; and he had peace on all sides surrounding him.

1Ki 4:25

1Ki 4:25So Judah and Israel lived securely, everyone under his vine and his fig tree, from Dan even to Beersheba, all the days of Solomon.

1Ki 4:26

1Ki 4:26Solomon had [fn]forty thousand stalls of horses for his chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen.

1Ki 4:27

1Ki 4:27And those deputies provided food for King Solomon and all who came to King Solomon’s table, each in his month; they allowed nothing to be lacking.

1Ki 4:28

1Ki 4:28They also brought barley and straw for the war horses and baggage horses to the place where it was required, each deputy according to his duty.

1Ki 4:29

Now God^H430 gave^H5414 Solomon^H8010 wisdom^H2451 and very^H3966 great^H7235 discernment^H8394 and breadth^H7341 of [fn]mind^H3820, like the sand^H2344 that is on the seashore^H3220^H8193.

1Ki 4:30

1Ki 4:30Solomon’s wisdom surpassed the wisdom of all the [fn]people of the east and all the wisdom of Egypt.

1Ki 4:31

1Ki 4:31For he was wiser than all other people, more than Ethan the Ezrahite, Heman, Calcol, and [fn]Darda, the sons of Mahol; and his [fn]fame was known in all the surrounding nations.

1Ki 4:32

1Ki 4:32He also told three thousand proverbs, and his songs numbered 1,005.

1Ki 4:33

1Ki 4:33He told of trees, from the cedar that is in Lebanon even to the hyssop that grows on the wall; he told also of animals, birds, crawling things, and fish.

1Ki 4:34

1Ki 4:34People came from all the [fn]nations to hear the wisdom of Solomon, from all the kings of the earth who had heard of his wisdom.
