Now^G1161 concerning^G4012 food^G1494 sacrificed^G1494 to^G1494 idols^G1494, we know^G6063 that we all^G3956 have^G2192 knowledge^G1108. Knowledge^G1108 [fn]makes^G5448 one conceited^G5448, but love^G26 edifies^G3618 people.

1Co 8:2

1Co 8:2If anyone thinks that he knows anything, he has not yet known as he ought to know;

1Co 8:3

1Co 8:3but if anyone loves God, he is known by Him.

1Co 8:4

Therefore^G3767, concerning^G4012 the eating^G1035 of food^G1494 sacrificed^G1494 to^G1494 idols^G1494, we know^G6063 that an idol^G1497 is [fn]nothing^G3762 at^G3762 all^G3762 in the world^G2889, and that there is no^G3762 God^G2316 but one^G1520.

1Co 8:5For even if there are so-called gods whether in heaven or on earth, as indeed there are many gods and many lords,

1Co 8:6yet for us there is only one God, the Father, from whom are all things, and we exist for Him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we exist through Him.

1Co 8:7

However^G235, not all^G3956 people^G3956 have this^G3588 knowledge^G1108; but some^G5100, being accustomed^G4914 to the idol^G1497 until^G2193 now^G737, eat^G2068 food as if^G5613 it were sacrificed^G1494 to^G1494 an^G1494 idol^G1494; and their conscience^G4893, being^G1510 weak^G772, is defiled^G3435.

1Co 8:8Now food will not bring us [fn]close to God; we are neither [fn]the worse if we do not eat, nor [fn]the better if we do eat.

1Co 8:9

1Co 8:9But take care that this [fn]freedom of yours does not somehow become a stumbling block to the weak.

1Co 8:10

1Co 8:10For if someone sees you, the one who has knowledge, dining in an idol’s temple, will his conscience, if he is weak, not be strengthened to eat things sacrificed to idols?

1Co 8:11

1Co 8:11For through your knowledge the one who is weak is ruined, the brother or sister for whose sake Christ died.

1Co 8:12

1Co 8:12And so, by sinning against the brothers and sisters and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Christ.

1Co 8:13

1Co 8:13Therefore, if food causes my brother to sin, I will never eat meat again, so that I will not cause my brother to sin.
