Now the sons^H1121 of Reuben^H7205, the firstborn^H1060 of Israel^H3478 (for he was the firstborn^H1060, but because he defiled^H2490 his father’s^H1 bed^H3326, his birthright^H1062 was given^H5414 to the sons^H1121 of Joseph^H3130, the son^H1121 of Israel^H3478; so he is not enrolled^H3187 in^H3187 the^H3187 genealogy^H3187 according to the birthright^H1062.

1Ch 5:2

1Ch 5:2Though Judah prevailed over his brothers, and from him came the leader, yet the birthright belonged to Joseph),

1Ch 5:3the sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel were Hanoch and Pallu, and Hezron and Carmi.

1Ch 5:4

1Ch 5:4The sons of Joel were Shemaiah his son, Gog his son, Shimei his son,

1Ch 5:5Micah his son, Reaiah his son, Baal his son,

1Ch 5:6

1Ch 5:6and Beerah his son, whom [fn]Tilgath-pilneser king of Assyria took into exile; he was leader of the Reubenites.

1Ch 5:7His relatives by their families, in the genealogy of their generations, were Jeiel the chief, then Zechariah

1Ch 5:8

1Ch 5:8and Bela, the son of Azaz, the son of Shema, the son of Joel, who lived in Aroer, as far as Nebo and Baal-meon.

1Ch 5:9

1Ch 5:9Toward the east he settled as far as the entrance of the wilderness from the river Euphrates, because their livestock had increased in the land of Gilead.

1Ch 5:10

1Ch 5:10In the days of Saul they made war with the Hagrites, who fell by their hand, so that they [fn]occupied their tents throughout the [fn]land east of Gilead.

1Ch 5:11

Now the sons^H1121 of Gad^H1410 lived^H3427 opposite^H5048 them in the land^H776 of Bashan^H1316, as far^H5704 as Salecah^H5548.

1Ch 5:12

1Ch 5:12Joel was the head and Shapham the second, then Janai and Shaphat in Bashan.

1Ch 5:13

1Ch 5:13Their relatives of their fathers’ households were Michael, Meshullam, Sheba, Jorai, Jacan, Zia, and Eber, seven.

1Ch 5:14

1Ch 5:14These were the sons of Abihail, the son of Huri, the son of Jaroah, the son of Gilead, the son of Michael, the son of Jeshishai, the son of Jahdo, the son of Buz;

1Ch 5:15

1Ch 5:15Ahi the son of Abdiel, the son of Guni, was head of their fathers’ households.

1Ch 5:16

1Ch 5:16They lived in Gilead, in Bashan and in its towns, and in all the pasture lands of Sharon, as far as their [fn]borders.

1Ch 5:17

1Ch 5:17All of these were enrolled in the genealogies in the days of Jotham king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam king of Israel.

1Ch 5:18

The sons^H1121 of Reuben^H7205, the Gadites^H1425, and the half-tribe^H2677^H7626 of Manasseh^H4519, consisting of valiant^H2428 men^H1121, men^H376 who carried^H5375 shield^H4043 and sword^H2719 and shot^H1869 with a bow^H7198 and were skillful^H3925 in battle^H4421, totaled 44,760^H705^H702^H505^H7651^H3967^H8346 who went^H3318 to war^H6635.

1Ch 5:19

1Ch 5:19They made war against the Hagrites, Jetur, Naphish, and Nodab.

1Ch 5:20

1Ch 5:20They were helped against them, and the Hagrites and all who were with them were handed over to them; for they cried out to God in the battle, and He answered their prayers because they trusted in Him.

1Ch 5:21

1Ch 5:21They took away their livestock: their fifty thousand camels, 250,000 sheep, and two thousand donkeys; and a hundred thousand [fn]people.

1Ch 5:22

1Ch 5:22For many fell mortally wounded, because the war was of God. And they settled in their place until the exile.

1Ch 5:23

Now the sons^H1121 of the half-tribe^H2677^H7626 of Manasseh^H4519 lived^H3427 in the land^H776; from Bashan^H1316 to Baal-hermon^H1179, Senir^H8149, and Mount^H2022 Hermon^H2768 they were^H7235 numerous^H7235.

1Ch 5:24

1Ch 5:24These were the heads of their fathers’ households: Epher, Ishi, Eliel, Azriel, Jeremiah, Hodaviah, and Jahdiel, valiant mighty men, famous men, heads of their fathers’ households.

1Ch 5:25

But they were^H4603 untrue^H4603 to the God^H430 of their fathers^H1 and prostituted^H2181 themselves with^H310 the gods^H430 of the peoples^H5971 of the land^H776, whom^H834 God^H430 had destroyed^H8045 before^H4480^H6640 them.

1Ch 5:26

1Ch 5:26So the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of Pul, king of Assyria, that is, the spirit of [fn]Tilgath-pilneser king of Assyria, and he took them into exile, namely the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, and brought them to Halah, Habor, Hara, and to the river of Gozan, where they are to this day.
