Commanders of the Army

Now this is the number^H4557 of the sons^H1121 of Israel^H3478, the heads^H7218 of fathers’^H1 households, the commanders^H8269 of thousands^H505 and of hundreds^H3967, and their officers^H7860 who served^H8334 the king^H4428 in all^H3605 the affairs^H1697 of the divisions^H4256 which came^H935 in^H935 and went^H3318 out^H3318 month^H2320 by month^H2320 throughout^H3605 the months^H2320 of the year^H8141, each^H259 division^H4256 numbering twenty-four^H6242^H702 thousand^H505:

Jashobeam^H3434 the son^H1121 of Zabdiel^H2068 [fn]was in^H5921 charge^H5921 of^H5921 the first^H7223 division^H4256 for the first^H7223 month^H2320; and in his division^H4256 were twenty-four^H6242^H702 thousand^H505.

1Ch 27:3

1Ch 27:3He was from the sons of Perez, and was chief of all the commanders of the army for the first month.

1Ch 27:4

1Ch 27:4Dodai the Ahohite and his division was in charge of the division for the second month, Mikloth being the chief officer; and in his division were twenty-four thousand.

1Ch 27:5

1Ch 27:5The third commander of the army for the third month was Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada the priest, as chief; and in his division were twenty-four thousand.

1Ch 27:6

1Ch 27:6This Benaiah was the mighty man of the thirty, and was in charge of thirty; and over his division was his son Ammizabad.

1Ch 27:7

1Ch 27:7The fourth, for the fourth month was Asahel the brother of Joab, and Zebadiah his son after him; and in his division were twenty-four thousand.

1Ch 27:8

1Ch 27:8The fifth, for the fifth month was the commander Shamhuth the Izrahite; and in his division were twenty-four thousand.

1Ch 27:9

1Ch 27:9The sixth, for the sixth month was Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite; and in his division were twenty-four thousand.

1Ch 27:10The seventh, for the seventh month was Helez the Pelonite of the sons of Ephraim; and in his division were twenty-four thousand.

1Ch 27:11The eighth, for the eighth month was Sibbecai the Hushathite of the Zerahites; and in his division were twenty-four thousand.

1Ch 27:12The ninth, for the ninth month was Abiezer the Anathothite of the Benjaminites; and in his division were twenty-four thousand.

1Ch 27:13The tenth, for the tenth month was Maharai the Netophathite of the Zerahites; and in his division were twenty-four thousand.

1Ch 27:14

1Ch 27:14The eleventh, for the eleventh month was Benaiah the Pirathonite of the sons of Ephraim; and in his division were twenty-four thousand.

1Ch 27:15The twelfth, for the twelfth month was Heldai the Netophathite of Othniel; and in his division were twenty-four thousand.

1Ch 27:17for Levi, Hashabiah the son of Kemuel; for Aaron, Zadok;

1Ch 27:18for Judah, Elihu, one of David’s brothers; for Issachar, Omri the son of Michael;

1Ch 27:19

1Ch 27:19for Zebulun, Ishmaiah the son of Obadiah; for Naphtali, Jeremoth the son of Azriel;

1Ch 27:20

1Ch 27:20for the sons of Ephraim, Hoshea the son of Azaziah; for the half-tribe of Manasseh, Joel the son of Pedaiah;

1Ch 27:21

1Ch 27:21for the half-tribe of Manasseh in Gilead, Iddo the son of Zechariah; for Benjamin, Jaasiel the son of Abner;

1Ch 27:22

1Ch 27:22for Dan, Azarel the son of Jeroham. These were the leaders of the tribes of Israel.

1Ch 27:23

1Ch 27:23But David did not [fn]count those twenty years of age and under, because the LORD had said He would multiply Israel as the stars of heaven.

1Ch 27:24

1Ch 27:24Joab the son of Zeruiah had begun to count them, but did not finish; and because of this, wrath came upon Israel, and the number was not included in the account of the chronicles of King David.

Now Azmaveth^H5820 the son^H1121 of Adiel^H5717 was responsible^H5921 for the king’s^H4428 storehouses^H214. And Jonathan^H3083 the son^H1121 of Uzziah^H5818 was responsible^H5921 for the storehouses^H214 in the country^H7704, the cities^H5892, the villages^H3723, and the towers^H4026.

1Ch 27:26Ezri the son of Chelub was responsible for the [fn]agricultural workers who tilled the soil.

1Ch 27:27

1Ch 27:27Shimei the Ramathite was responsible for the vineyards; and Zabdi the Shiphmite was responsible for the [fn]produce of the vineyards stored in the wine cellars.

1Ch 27:28

1Ch 27:28Baal-hanan the Gederite was responsible for the olive and sycamore trees in the [fn]Shephelah; and Joash was responsible for the stores of oil.

1Ch 27:29

1Ch 27:29Shitrai the Sharonite was responsible for the cattle which were grazing in Sharon; and Shaphat the son of Adlai was responsible for the cattle in the valleys.

1Ch 27:30

1Ch 27:30Obil the Ishmaelite was responsible for the camels; and Jehdeiah the Meronothite was responsible for the donkeys.

1Ch 27:31

1Ch 27:31Jaziz the Hagrite was responsible for the flocks. All these were [fn]overseers of the property which belonged to King David.

Counselors

1Ch 27:32

Also Jonathan^H3083, David’s^H1732 uncle^H1730, was a counselor^H3289, a man^H376 of understanding^H995, and a scribe^H5608; and Jehiel^H3171 the son^H1121 of Hachmoni^H2453 [fn]tutored^H5973 the king’s^H4428 sons^H1121.

1Ch 27:33

1Ch 27:33Ahithophel was counselor to the king; and Hushai the Archite was the king’s friend.

1Ch 27:34

1Ch 27:34Jehoiada the son of Benaiah, and Abiathar [fn]succeeded Ahithophel; and Joab was the commander of the king’s army.
