Solomon Reigns

Now when David^H1732 [fn]reached^H2204 old^H2204 age^H3117, he made^H4427 his son^H1121 Solomon^H8010 king^H4427 over^H5921 Israel^H3478.

1Ch 23:2

1Ch 23:2And he gathered together all the leaders of Israel with the priests and the Levites.

Offices of the Levites

1Ch 23:3

1Ch 23:3Now the Levites were counted from thirty years old and upward, and their number by [fn]head count of men was thirty-eight thousand.

1Ch 23:4

1Ch 23:4Of these, twenty-four thousand were to oversee the work of the house of the LORD; and six thousand were officers and judges,

1Ch 23:5

1Ch 23:5and four thousand were gatekeepers, and four thousand were praising the LORD with the instruments which [fn]David made for giving praise.

1Ch 23:6

1Ch 23:6David divided them into divisions according to the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

Gershonites

1Ch 23:7

Of the Gershonites^H1649 there were [fn]Ladan^H3936 and Shimei^H8096.

1Ch 23:8

1Ch 23:8The sons of Ladan were Jehiel the first, and Zetham and Joel, three.

1Ch 23:9

1Ch 23:9The sons of Shimei were Shelomoth, Haziel, and Haran, three. These were the heads of the fathers’ households of Ladan.

1Ch 23:10

1Ch 23:10The sons of Shimei were Jahath, [fn]Zina, Jeush, and Beriah. These four were the sons of Shimei.

1Ch 23:11

1Ch 23:11Jahath was the first and Zizah the second; but Jeush and Beriah did not have many sons, so they became a father’s household, one group for duty.

Kohathites

1Ch 23:12

The sons^H1121 of Kohath^H6955 were four^H702 in number: Amram^H6019, Izhar^H3324, Hebron^H2275, and Uzziel^H5816.

1Ch 23:13

1Ch 23:13The sons of Amram were Aaron and Moses. And Aaron was set apart to sanctify him as most holy, he and his sons forever, to burn incense before the LORD, to serve Him and bless in His name forever.

1Ch 23:14

1Ch 23:14But as for Moses, the man of God, his sons were named among the tribe of Levi.

1Ch 23:15

1Ch 23:15The sons of Moses were Gershom and Eliezer.

1Ch 23:16

1Ch 23:16The [fn]son of Gershom was [fn]Shebuel the chief.

1Ch 23:17

1Ch 23:17The [fn]son of Eliezer was Rehabiah the chief; and Eliezer had no other sons, but the sons of Rehabiah were very many.

1Ch 23:18

1Ch 23:18The [fn]son of Izhar was [fn]Shelomith the chief.

1Ch 23:19

1Ch 23:19The sons of Hebron were Jeriah the first, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth.

1Ch 23:20

1Ch 23:20The sons of Uzziel were Micah the first and Isshiah the second.

Merarites

1Ch 23:21

The sons^H1121 of Merari^H4847 were Mahli^H4249 and Mushi^H4187. The sons^H1121 of Mahli^H4249 were Eleazar^H499 and Kish^H7027.

1Ch 23:22

1Ch 23:22Eleazar died and had no sons, but only daughters; so their relatives, the sons of Kish, took them as wives.

1Ch 23:23

1Ch 23:23The sons of Mushi were three: Mahli, Eder, and Jeremoth.

These^H428 were the sons^H1121 of Levi^H3878 according to their fathers’^H1 households^H1004, the heads^H7218 of the fathers’^H1 households of those among them who were [fn]counted^H6485, in the number^H4557 of names^H8034 by their [fn]head^H1538 count^H1538, doing^H6213 the work^H4399 for the service^H5656 of the house^H1004 of the LORD^H3068, from twenty^H6242 years^H8141 old^H1121 and upward^H4605.

1Ch 23:25

1Ch 23:25For David said, “The LORD God of Israel has given rest to His people, and He dwells in Jerusalem forever.

1Ch 23:26

1Ch 23:26“Also, the Levites will no longer need to carry the tabernacle and all its utensils for its service.”

1Ch 23:27

1Ch 23:27For by the last words of David, the sons of Levi were counted from twenty years old and upward.

1Ch 23:28

1Ch 23:28For their office is [fn]to assist the sons of Aaron with the service of the house of the LORD, in the courtyards and in the chambers, and in the purification of all holy things, and the work of the service of the house of God,

1Ch 23:29

1Ch 23:29and with the showbread, and the fine flour for a grain offering, and unleavened wafers, or what is baked in the pan or what is well-mixed, and all measures of volume and size.

1Ch 23:30

1Ch 23:30They are to stand every morning to thank and to praise the LORD, and likewise at evening,

1Ch 23:31

1Ch 23:31and to offer all burnt offerings to the LORD, on the Sabbaths, the new moons and the appointed festivals, in the number determined by the ordinance concerning them, continually before the LORD.

1Ch 23:32

1Ch 23:32So they are to perform the [fn]duties of the tent of meeting, the holy place, and of assisting the sons of Aaron their relatives, for the service of the house of the LORD.
