Plans to Move the Ark to Jerusalem

(2Sa 6:12–16 )

Now David built^H6213 houses^H1004 for himself in the city^H5892 of David^H1732; and he prepared^H3559 a place^H4725 for the ark^H727 of God^H430 and pitched^H5186 a tent^H168 for it.

1Ch 15:2

1Ch 15:2Then David said, “No one is to carry the ark of God except the Levites; for the LORD chose them to carry the ark of the LORD and to serve Him forever.”

1Ch 15:3

1Ch 15:3And David assembled all Israel at Jerusalem to bring up the ark of the LORD to its place which he had prepared for it.

1Ch 15:4

1Ch 15:4David gathered together the sons of Aaron and the Levites:

1Ch 15:5of the sons of Kohath, Uriel the chief, and 120 of his relatives;

1Ch 15:6

1Ch 15:6of the sons of Merari, Asaiah the chief, and 220 of his relatives;

1Ch 15:7

1Ch 15:7of the sons of Gershom, Joel the chief, and 130 of his relatives;

1Ch 15:8

1Ch 15:8of the sons of Elizaphan, Shemaiah the chief, and two hundred of his relatives;

1Ch 15:9

1Ch 15:9of the sons of Hebron, Eliel the chief, and eighty of his relatives;

1Ch 15:10

1Ch 15:10of the sons of Uzziel, Amminadab the chief, and 112 of his relatives.

1Ch 15:11

Then David^H1732 called^H7121 for the priests^H3548 Zadok^H6659 and Abiathar^H54, and for the Levites^H3881, for Uriel^H222, Asaiah^H6222, Joel^H3100, Shemaiah^H8098, Eliel^H447, and Amminadab^H5992;

1Ch 15:12

1Ch 15:12and he said to them, “You are the heads of the fathers’ households of the Levites; consecrate yourselves, you and your relatives, so that you may bring up the ark of the LORD God of Israel to the place that I have prepared for it.

1Ch 15:13

1Ch 15:13“Because you did not carry it at the first, the LORD our God made an outburst against us, since we did not seek Him according to the ordinance.”

1Ch 15:14

1Ch 15:14So the priests and the Levites consecrated themselves to bring up the ark of the LORD God of Israel.

1Ch 15:15

1Ch 15:15The sons of the Levites carried the ark of God on their shoulders with the poles on them, just as Moses had commanded in accordance with the word of the LORD.

1Ch 15:16

Then David^H1732 spoke^H559 to the chiefs^H8269 of the Levites^H3881 to appoint^H5975 their relatives^H251 as the singers^H7891, with musical^H7892 instruments^H3627, harps^H5035, lyres^H3658, and cymbals^H4700, playing^H8085 to raise^H7311 sounds^H6963 of joy^H8057.

1Ch 15:17

1Ch 15:17So the Levites appointed Heman the son of Joel, and from his relatives, Asaph the son of Berechiah; and from the sons of Merari their relatives, Ethan the son of Kushaiah,

1Ch 15:18

1Ch 15:18and with them their relatives of the second rank, Zechariah, [fn]Ben, Jaaziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-edom, and Jeiel, the gatekeepers.

1Ch 15:19

1Ch 15:19So the singers, Heman, Asaph, and Ethan, were appointed to sound aloud cymbals of bronze;

1Ch 15:20

1Ch 15:20and Zechariah, Aziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Maaseiah, and Benaiah, with harps tuned to [fn]alamoth;

1Ch 15:21

1Ch 15:21and Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-edom, Jeiel, and Azaziah, to lead with lyres tuned to [fn]the sheminith.

1Ch 15:22

1Ch 15:22Chenaniah, chief of the Levites, was in charge of the singing; he gave instruction in singing because he was skillful.

1Ch 15:23

1Ch 15:23Berechiah and Elkanah were gatekeepers for the ark.

1Ch 15:24

1Ch 15:24Shebaniah, Joshaphat, Nethanel, Amasai, Zechariah, Benaiah, and Eliezer, the priests, blew the trumpets before the ark of God. Obed-edom and Jehiah also were gatekeepers for the ark.

1Ch 15:25

So it was David^H1732, with the elders^H2205 of Israel^H3478 and the captains^H8269 of thousands^H505, who went^H1980 to bring^H5927 up^H5927 the ark^H727 of the covenant^H1285 of the LORD^H3068 from the house^H1004 of Obed-edom^H5654 with joy^H8057.

1Ch 15:26

1Ch 15:26Because God was helping the Levites who were carrying the ark of the covenant of the LORD, they sacrificed seven bulls and seven rams.

1Ch 15:27

1Ch 15:27Now David was clothed with a robe of fine linen with all the Levites who were carrying the ark, and the singers, and Chenaniah the leader of the singing with the singers. David also wore an ephod of linen.

1Ch 15:28

1Ch 15:28So all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the LORD with shouting, and with the sound of the horn, with trumpets, with loud-sounding cymbals, with harps, and lyres.

1Ch 15:29

When the ark^H727 of the covenant^H1285 of the LORD^H3068 came^H935 to the city^H5892 of David^H1732, Michal^H4324 the daughter^H1323 of Saul^H7586 looked^H8259 out^H8259 of the window^H2474 and saw^H7200 King^H4428 David^H1732 dancing^H7540 and celebrating^H7832; and she despised^H959 him in her heart^H3820.
