Be Subject to Government

Every^G3956 [fn]person^G5590 is to be in subjection^G5293 to the governing^G5242 authorities^G1849. For there is no^G3756 authority^G1849 except^G1508 [fn]from God^G2316, and those^G3588 which exist^G1510 have been appointed^G5021 by God^G2316.

Rom 13:2

Rom 13:2Therefore [fn]whoever resists that authority has opposed the ordinance of God; and they who have opposed will receive condemnation upon themselves.

Rom 13:3

Rom 13:3For rulers are not a cause of fear for [fn]good behavior, but for evil. Do you want to have no fear of that authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same;

Rom 13:4

Rom 13:4for it is a minister of God to you for good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid; for it does not bear the sword in vain, for it is a minister of God, an avenger who brings wrath on the one who practices evil.

Rom 13:5

Rom 13:5Therefore it is necessary to be in subjection, not only because of that wrath, but also because of conscience.

Rom 13:6

Rom 13:6For because of this you also pay taxes, for rulers are servants of God, devoting themselves to this very thing.

Rom 13:7

Rom 13:7Render to all what is due them: tax to whom tax is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honor to whom honor.

Rom 13:8

Owe^G3784 nothing^G3367 to anyone^G3367 except^G1508 to love^G25 one^G240 another^G240; for he who loves^G25 [fn]his neighbor^G2087 has fulfilled^G4137 the law^G3551.

Rom 13:9

Rom 13:9For this, “YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY, YOU SHALL NOT MURDER, YOU SHALL NOT STEAL, YOU SHALL NOT COVET,” and if there is any other commandment, it is summed up in this word, “YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.”

Rom 13:10

Rom 13:10Love does not work evil against a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the Law.

And^G2532 do this^G3778, knowing^G6063 the time^G2540, that it is already^G2235 the hour^G5610 for you to awaken^G1453 from sleep^G5258; for now^G3568 [fn]salvation^G4991 is nearer^G1451 to us than^G2228 when^G3753 we believed^G4100.
