Psalm 22 :: Legacy Standard Bible (LSB)

Why Have You Forsaken Me?

Psa 22:1

For the choir director. According to [fn]Aijeleth Hashshahar. A Psalm of David.

My God, my God, why have You forsaken me?

[fn]Far from my salvation are the words of my [fn]groaning.

Psa 22:2

O my God, I call by day, but You do not answer;

And by night, but [fn]I have no rest.

Psa 22:3

Yet You are holy,

[fn]Enthroned upon the praises of Israel.

Psa 22:4

In You our fathers trusted;

They trusted and You rescued them.

Psa 22:5

To You they cried out and were granted escape;

In You they trusted and were not [fn]disappointed.

Psa 22:6

But I am a worm and not a man,

A reproach of men and despised by the people.

Psa 22:7

All who see me mock me;

They [fn]smack their lip, they wag their head, saying,

Psa 22:8

[fn]Commit yourself to Yahweh; let Him rescue him;

Let Him deliver him, because He delights in him.”

Psa 22:9

Yet You are He who brought me out of the womb;

You made me trust when upon my mother’s breasts.

Psa 22:10

Upon You I was cast from [fn]birth;

You have been my God from my mother’s womb.

Psa 22:11

Be not far from me, for [fn]distress is near;

For there is none to help.

Psa 22:12

Many bulls have surrounded me;

Strong bulls of Bashan have encircled me.

Psa 22:13

They open wide their mouth at me,

As a lion that tears and roars.

Psa 22:14

I am poured out like water,

And all my bones are out of joint;

My heart is like wax;

It is melted within [fn]me.

Psa 22:15

My strength is dried up like a potsherd,

And my tongue cleaves to my jaws;

And You lay me [fn]in the dust of death.

Psa 22:16

For dogs have surrounded me;

[fn]A band of evildoers has encompassed me;

[fn]They pierced my hands and my feet.

Psa 22:17

I count all my bones.

They look, they stare at me;

Psa 22:18

They divide my garments among them,

And for my clothing they cast lots.

Psa 22:19

But You, O Yahweh, be not far off;

O my Strength, hasten to my help.

Psa 22:20

Deliver my [fn]soul from the sword,

My only life from the [fn]power of the dog.

Psa 22:21

Save me from the mouth of the lion;

From the horns of the wild oxen You have answered me.

Psa 22:22

I will surely recount Your name to my brothers;

In the midst of the assembly I will praise You.

Psa 22:23

You who fear Yahweh, praise Him;

All you seed of Jacob, glorify Him,

And stand in awe of Him, all you seed of Israel.

Psa 22:24

For He has not despised and He has not abhorred the affliction of the afflicted;

And He has not hidden His face from him;

But when he cried to Him for help, He heard.

Psa 22:25

Of You is my praise in the great assembly;

I shall pay my vows before those who fear Him.

Psa 22:26

The [fn]afflicted will eat and be satisfied;

Those who seek Him will praise Yahweh.

May your heart live forever!

Psa 22:27

All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to Yahweh,

And all the families of the nations will worship before [fn]You.

Psa 22:28

For the kingdom is Yahweh’s

And He rules over the nations.

Psa 22:29

All the [fn]prosperous of the earth will eat and worship,

All those who go down to the dust will bow before Him,

Even he who [fn]cannot keep his soul alive.

Psa 22:30

Their seed will serve Him;

It will be recounted about the Lord to the coming generation.

Psa 22:31

They will come and will declare His righteousness

To a people who will be born, that He has done it.
