The Passover

(Exo 12:1–20 )

Thus Yahweh^H3068 spoke^H1696 to Moses^H4872 in the wilderness^H4057 of Sinai^H5514, in the first^H7223 month^H2320 of the second^H8145 year^H8141 after they had come^H3318 out^H3318 of the land^H776 of Egypt^H4714, saying^H559,

Num 9:2

Num 9:2“Now, let the sons of Israel observe the Passover at its appointed time.

Num 9:3

Num 9:3“On the fourteenth day of this month, [fn]at twilight, you shall observe it at its appointed time; you shall observe it according to all its statutes and according to all its judgments.”

Num 9:4

Num 9:4So Moses [fn]told the sons of Israel to celebrate the Passover.

Num 9:5

Num 9:5And they celebrated the Passover in the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month, at twilight, in the wilderness of Sinai; according to all that Yahweh had commanded Moses, so the sons of Israel did.

Num 9:6

Num 9:6But there were some men who were unclean because of a [fn]dead person, so that they could not celebrate Passover on that day; so they came near before Moses and Aaron on that day.

Num 9:7

Num 9:7And those men said to him, “We are unclean because of a [fn]dead person. But why are we restrained from bringing near the offering of Yahweh at its appointed time among the sons of Israel?”

Num 9:8

Num 9:8Moses therefore said to them, “[fn]Wait, and I will listen to what Yahweh will command concerning you.”

Num 9:9

Then Yahweh^H3068 spoke^H1696 to Moses^H4872, saying^H559,

Num 9:10

Num 9:10“Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘If any one of you or of your generations becomes unclean because of a dead [fn]person, or is on a distant journey, he may, however, celebrate the Passover to Yahweh.

Num 9:11

Num 9:11‘In the second month on the fourteenth day at twilight, they shall observe it; they shall eat it with unleavened bread and bitter herbs.

Num 9:12

Num 9:12‘They shall leave none of it until morning nor break a bone of it; according to all the statute of the Passover they shall celebrate it.

Num 9:13

Num 9:13‘But the man who is clean and is not on a journey, and yet [fn]neglects to celebrate the Passover, that [fn]person shall then be cut off from his people, for he did not bring near the offering of Yahweh at its appointed time. That man will bear his sin.

Num 9:14

Num 9:14‘If a sojourner sojourns among you and [fn]celebrates the Passover to Yahweh, according to the statute of the Passover and according to its judgment, so he shall do; you shall have one statute, both for the sojourner and for the native of the land.’”

The Cloud Covering the Tabernacle

(Exo 13:21, 22; 40:34–38 )

Num 9:15

Now on the day^H3117 that the tabernacle^H4908 was erected^H6965 the cloud^H6051 covered^H3680 the tabernacle^H4908, the tent^H168 of the testimony^H5715, and in the evening^H6153 it was like the appearance^H4758 of fire^H784 over^H5921 the tabernacle^H4908 until^H5704 morning^H1242.

Num 9:16

Num 9:16So it was continuously; the cloud would cover it by day, and the appearance of fire by night.

Num 9:17

Num 9:17Now whenever the cloud would go up from over the tent, afterward the sons of Israel would then set out; and in the place where the cloud settled down, there the sons of Israel would camp.

Num 9:18

Num 9:18At the [fn]command of Yahweh the sons of Israel would set out, and at the [fn]command of Yahweh they would camp; as long as the cloud settled over the tabernacle, they remained camped.

Num 9:19

Num 9:19Even when the cloud lingered over the tabernacle for many days, [fn]the sons of Israel would keep the charge of Yahweh and not set out.

Num 9:20

Num 9:20If [fn]sometimes the cloud remained a few days over the tabernacle, according to the [fn]command of Yahweh they remained camped. Then according to the [fn]command of Yahweh they set out.

Num 9:21

Num 9:21If [fn]sometimes the cloud [fn]remained from evening until morning, when the cloud was lifted in the morning, they would move out; or if it remained in the daytime and at night, whenever the cloud was lifted, they would set out.

Num 9:22

Num 9:22Whether it was two days or a month or a year that the cloud lingered over the tabernacle, dwelling above it, the sons of Israel remained camped and did not set out; but when it was lifted, they did set out.

Num 9:23

Num 9:23At the [fn]command of Yahweh they camped, and at the [fn]command of Yahweh they set out; they kept the charge of Yahweh, according to the [fn]command of Yahweh by the hand of Moses.
