The Statutes for Vows

Then Moses^H4872 spoke^H1696 to the heads^H7218 of the tribes^H4294 of the sons^H1121 of Israel^H3478, saying^H559, “This^H2088 is the word^H1697 which^H834 Yahweh^H3068 has commanded^H6680.

Num 30:2

Num 30:2“If a man makes a vow to Yahweh or swears an oath to bind himself with a binding obligation, he shall not violate his word; he shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth.

Num 30:3

“Also if^H3588 a woman^H802 makes^H5087 a vow^H5088 to Yahweh^H3068 and binds^H631 herself by an obligation^H632 in her father’s^H1 house^H1004 in her youth^H5271,

Num 30:4

Num 30:4and her father hears her vow and her obligation by which she has bound herself, and her father [fn]says nothing to her, then all her vows shall stand, and every obligation by which she has bound herself shall stand.

Num 30:5

Num 30:5“But if her father should forbid her on the day he hears of it, none of her vows or her obligations by which she has bound herself shall stand; and Yahweh will pardon her because her father had forbidden her.

Num 30:6

“However, if^H518 she should [fn]marry^H1961^H376 while [fn]under^H5921 her vows^H5088 or^H176 the rash^H4008 statement^H4008 of her lips^H8193 by which^H834 she has bound^H631 herself^H5315,

Num 30:7

Num 30:7and her husband hears of it and says nothing to her on the day he hears it, then her vows shall stand, and her obligations by which she has bound herself shall stand.

Num 30:8

Num 30:8“But if, on the day her husband hears of it, he forbids her, then he shall annul her vow which [fn]she is under and the rash statement of her lips by which she has bound herself; and Yahweh will pardon her.

Num 30:9

“But the vow^H5088 of a widow^H490 or of a divorced^H1644 woman, everything^H3605 by which^H834 she has bound^H631 herself^H5315, shall stand^H6965 against^H5921 her.

Num 30:10

Num 30:10“However, if she vowed in her husband’s house or bound herself by an obligation with an oath,

Num 30:11

Num 30:11and her husband heard it but said nothing to her and did not forbid her, then all her vows shall stand, and every obligation by which she bound herself shall stand.

Num 30:12

Num 30:12“But if her husband indeed annuls them on the day he hears them, then whatever proceeds out of her lips concerning her vows or concerning the obligation of herself shall not stand; her husband has annulled them, and Yahweh will pardon her.

Num 30:13

“Every^H3605 vow^H5088 and every^H3605 binding^H632 oath^H7621 to humble^H6031 herself^H5315, her husband^H376 may cause it to stand^H6965, or her husband^H376 may annul^H6565 it.

Num 30:14

Num 30:14“But if her husband indeed says nothing to her from day to day, then he causes all her vows or all her obligations which are on her to stand; he has caused them to stand because he said nothing to her on the day he heard them.

Num 30:15

Num 30:15“But if he indeed annuls them after he has heard them, then he shall bear her guilt.”

Num 30:16

These^H428 are the statutes^H2706 which^H834 Yahweh^H3068 commanded^H6680 Moses^H4872, as between^H996 a man^H376 and his wife^H802, and as between^H996 a father^H1 and his daughter^H1323, while she is in her youth^H5271 in her father’s^H1 house^H1004.
