The Daughters of Zelophehad

Then the daughters^H1323 of Zelophehad^H6765, the son^H1121 of Hepher^H2660, the son^H1121 of Gilead^H1568, the son^H1121 of Machir^H4353, the son^H1121 of Manasseh^H4519, of the families^H4940 of Manasseh^H4519 the son^H1121 of Joseph^H3130, came^H7126 near^H7126; and these^H428 are the names^H8034 of his daughters^H1323: Mahlah^H4244, Noah^H5270 and Hoglah^H2295 and Milcah^H4435 and Tirzah^H8656.

Num 27:2

Num 27:2And they stood before Moses and before Eleazar the priest and before the leaders and all the congregation, at the doorway of the tent of meeting, saying,

Num 27:3

Num 27:3“Our father died in the wilderness, yet he was not among the congregation of those who gathered themselves together against Yahweh in the congregation of Korah; but he died in his own sin, and he had no sons.

Num 27:4

Num 27:4“Why should the name of our father be withdrawn from among his family because he had no son? Give us a possession among our father’s brothers.”

Num 27:5

Num 27:5So Moses brought their case near before Yahweh.

Num 27:6

Then Yahweh^H3068 spoke^H559 to Moses^H4872, saying^H559,

Num 27:7

Num 27:7“The daughters of Zelophehad are right in their statements. You shall surely give them a possession for an inheritance among their father’s brothers, and you shall have the inheritance of their father pass on to them.

Num 27:8

Num 27:8“Further, you shall speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘If a man dies and has no son, then you shall have his inheritance pass on to his daughter.

Num 27:9

Num 27:9‘And if he has no daughter, then you shall give his inheritance to his brothers.

Num 27:10

Num 27:10‘And if he has no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to his father’s brothers.

Num 27:11

Num 27:11‘And if his father has no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to his blood relative in his own family, and he shall possess it; and it shall be a statutory judgment to the sons of Israel, just as Yahweh commanded Moses.’”

Num 27:12

Then Yahweh^H3068 said^H559 to Moses^H4872, “Go^H5927 up^H5927 to this^H2088 mountain^H2022 of Abarim^H5682, and see^H7200 the land^H776 which^H834 I have given^H5414 to the sons^H1121 of Israel^H3478.

Num 27:13

Num 27:13“So when you have seen it, you too will be gathered to your people, as Aaron your brother [fn]was,

Num 27:14

Num 27:14for in the wilderness of Zin, during the strife of the congregation, you rebelled against My [fn]command [fn]to treat Me as holy before their eyes at the water.” (These are the waters of Meribah of Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin.)

Num 27:15

Then Moses^H4872 spoke^H1696 to Yahweh^H3068, saying^H559,

Num 27:16

Num 27:16“May Yahweh, the God of the spirits of all flesh, appoint a man over the congregation,

Num 27:17

Num 27:17who will go out [fn]and come in before them, and who will lead them out and [fn]bring them in, so that the congregation of Yahweh will not be like sheep which have no shepherd.”

Num 27:18

Num 27:18So Yahweh said to Moses, “[fn]Take Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the Spirit, and lay your hand on him;

Num 27:19

Num 27:19and have him stand before Eleazar the priest and before all the congregation, and commission him in their sight.

Num 27:20

Num 27:20“And you shall put some of your [fn]splendor on him, in order that all the congregation of the sons of Israel may obey him.

Num 27:21

Num 27:21“Moreover, he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire for him by the judgment of the Urim before Yahweh. At his [fn]command they shall go out, and at his [fn]command they shall come in, both he and the sons of Israel with him, even all the congregation.”
