Aaron’s Rod Buds

[fn]Then Yahweh^H3068 spoke^H1696 to Moses^H4872, saying^H559,

Num 17:2“Speak to the sons of Israel, and get from them a rod for each father’s household: twelve rods from all their leaders according to their fathers’ households. You shall write each name on his rod,

Num 17:3

Num 17:3and write Aaron’s name on the rod of Levi; for there is one rod for the head of each of their fathers’ households.

Num 17:4

Num 17:4“You shall then deposit them in the tent of meeting in front of the testimony, where I meet with you.

Num 17:5

Num 17:5“And it will come about that the rod of the man whom I choose will sprout. Thus I will rid Myself of the grumblings of the sons of Israel, who are grumbling against you.”

Num 17:6

Num 17:6Moses therefore spoke to the sons of Israel, and all their leaders gave him a rod apiece, for each leader according to their fathers’ households, twelve rods, with the rod of Aaron among their rods.

Num 17:7

Num 17:7So Moses deposited the rods before Yahweh in the tent of the testimony.

Num 17:8

Now it happened on the next^H4283 day^H4283 Moses^H4872 went^H935 into the tent^H168 of the testimony^H5715; and behold^H2009, the rod^H4294 of Aaron^H175 for the house^H1004 of Levi^H3878 had sprouted^H6524 and put^H3318 forth^H3318 buds^H6525 and produced^H6692 flowers^H6692, and it bore^H1580 ripe^H1580 almonds^H8247.

Num 17:9

Num 17:9Moses then brought out all the rods from the presence of Yahweh to all the sons of Israel; and they looked, and each man took his rod.

Num 17:10

Num 17:10But Yahweh said to Moses, “Put back the rod of Aaron before the testimony [fn]to be kept as a sign against the [fn]rebels, that you may put an end to their grumblings against Me, so that they will not die.”

Num 17:11

Num 17:11Thus Moses did; just as Yahweh had commanded him, so he did.

Num 17:12

Then the sons^H1121 of Israel^H3478 spoke^H559 to Moses^H4872, saying^H559, “Behold^H2005, we are breathing^H1478 our^H1478 last^H1478 breath^H1478, we are perishing^H6, we are all^H3605 perishing^H6!

Num 17:13

Num 17:13“Everyone who comes near, who comes near to the tabernacle of Yahweh, must die. Are we to breathe our utter last?”
