Jesus Cleanses a Leper

(Mar 1:40–45; Luk 5:12–16 )

Now when [fn]Jesus came^G2597 down^G2597 from the [fn]mountain^G3735, [fn]large^G4183 crowds^G3793 followed^G190 Him.

Mat 8:2And behold, a leper came to Him and [fn]was bowing down before Him, and said, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.”

Mat 8:3

Mat 8:3And Jesus stretched out His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.

Mat 8:4

Mat 8:4And Jesus *said to him, “See that you tell no one; but go, show yourself to the priest and present the [fn]offering that Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.”

The Centurion’s Faith

(Luk 7:1–10 )

Mat 8:5

And when [fn]Jesus entered^G1525 Capernaum^G2584, a centurion^G1543 came^G4334 to Him, pleading^G3870 with Him,

Mat 8:6

Mat 8:6and saying, “[fn]Lord, my [fn]servant is [fn]lying paralyzed at home, fearfully tormented.”

Mat 8:7

Mat 8:7And Jesus *said to him, “I will come and heal him.”

Mat 8:8

Mat 8:8But the centurion said, “[fn]Lord, I am not good enough for You to come under my roof, but just [fn]say the word, and my [fn]servant will be healed.

Mat 8:9

Mat 8:9“For I also am a man under authority, with soldiers under me; and I say to this man, ‘Go!’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come!’ and he comes, and to my slave, ‘Do this!’ and he does it.”

Mat 8:10

Mat 8:10Now when Jesus heard this, He marveled and said to those who were following, “Truly I say to you, I have not found such great faith [fn]with anyone in Israel.

Mat 8:11

Mat 8:11“And I say to you that many will come from east and west, and [fn]recline at the table with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven;

Mat 8:12

Mat 8:12but the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

Mat 8:13

Mat 8:13And Jesus said to the centurion, “Go; [fn]it shall be done for you as you have believed.” And the [fn]servant was healed that very [fn]moment.

Peter’s Mother-In-Law and Many Others Healed

Mat 8:14

Mat 8:15

Mat 8:15And He touched her hand, and the fever left her; and she got up and began [fn]waiting on Him.

Mat 8:16

Mat 8:16Now when evening came, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed; and He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were ill

Mat 8:17

Mat 8:17in order to fulfill what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying, “HE HIMSELF TOOK OUR INFIRMITIES AND [fn]CARRIED AWAY OUR DISEASES.”

The Cost of Following Jesus

Mat 8:18

Mat 8:19Then a scribe came and said to Him, “Teacher, I will follow You wherever You go.”

Mat 8:20

Mat 8:20And Jesus *said to him, “The foxes have holes and the birds of the [fn]air have [fn]nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.”

Mat 8:21

Mat 8:21And another of the disciples said to Him, “Lord, permit me first to go and bury my father.”

Mat 8:22

Mat 8:22But Jesus *said to him, “Follow Me, and allow the dead to bury their own dead.”

Jesus Calms a Storm

Mat 8:23

Mat 8:24

Mat 8:24And behold, there arose [fn]a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being covered with the waves; but Jesus Himself was sleeping.

Mat 8:25

Mat 8:25And they came to Him and got Him up, saying, “Save us, Lord; we are perishing!”

Mat 8:26

Mat 8:26And He *said to them, “Why are you so cowardly, you men of little faith?” Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and [fn]it became perfectly calm.

Mat 8:27

Mat 8:27And the men marveled, and said, “What kind of a man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?”

Jesus Saves Men from Demons

(Mar 5:1–20; Luk 8:26–39 )

Mat 8:28

And when He came^G2064 to the other^G4008 side^G4008, into the region^G5561 of the Gadarenes^G1046, two^G1417 men who were demon-possessed^G1139 met^G5221 Him as they were coming^G1831 out^G1831 of the tombs^G3419. They were so extremely^G3029 violent^G5467 that no^G3361 one^G5100 could^G2480 pass^G3928 by that way^G3598.

Mat 8:29

Mat 8:29And behold, they cried out, saying, “[fn]What do we have to do with You, Son of God? Have You come here to torment us before the [fn]time?”

Mat 8:30

Mat 8:30Now there was a herd of many swine feeding at a distance from them.

Mat 8:31

Mat 8:31And the demons began to plead with Him, saying, “If You are going to cast us out, send us into the herd of swine.”

Mat 8:32

Mat 8:32And He said to them, “Go!” And coming out, they went into the swine; and behold, the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea and perished in the waters.
