Parable of the Wedding Feast

(Luk 14:15–24 )

And Jesus^G2424 answered^G611 and spoke^G3004 to them again^G3825 in parables^G3850, saying^G3004,

Mat 22:2“The kingdom of heaven [fn]may be compared to [fn]a king who [fn]gave a wedding feast for his son.

Mat 22:3“And he sent out his slaves to call those who had been called to the wedding feast, and they were unwilling to come.

Mat 22:4

Mat 22:4“Again he sent out other slaves saying, ‘Tell those who have been called, “Behold, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and my fattened livestock are all butchered and everything is ready; come to the wedding feast.”’

Mat 22:5

Mat 22:5“But they paid no attention and went their way, one to his own [fn]farm, another to his business,

Mat 22:6

Mat 22:6and the rest seized his slaves and mistreated them and killed them.

Mat 22:7

Mat 22:7“But the king was enraged, and he sent his armies and destroyed those murderers and set their city on fire.

Mat 22:8

Mat 22:8“Then he *said to his slaves, ‘The wedding is ready, but those who were called were not worthy.

Mat 22:9

Mat 22:9‘Go therefore to the main highways, and as many as you find there, call to the wedding feast.’

Mat 22:10

Mat 22:10“And those slaves went out into the streets and gathered together all they found, both evil and good; and the wedding hall was filled with [fn]dinner guests.

Mat 22:11

“But when the king^G935 came^G1525 in^G1525 to look^G2300 over^G2300 the dinner^G345 guests^G345, he saw^G3708 a man^G444 there^G1563 who was not dressed^G1746 in wedding^G1062 clothes^G1742,

Mat 22:12

Mat 22:12and he *said to him, ‘Friend, how did you come in here without wedding clothes?’ And the man was speechless.

Mat 22:13

Mat 22:13“Then the king said to the servants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, and throw him into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

Mat 22:14

Mat 22:14“For many are [fn]called, but few are chosen.”

Taxes to Caesar

(Mar 12:13–17; Luk 20:20–26 )

Mat 22:15

Then^G5119 the Pharisees^G5330 went^G4198 and took^G4824 counsel^G4824 together^G4824 about how^G3704 they might trap^G3802 Him [fn]in what He said^G3056.

Mat 22:16

Mat 22:16And they *sent their disciples to Him, along with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that You are truthful and teach the way of God in truth, and [fn]defer to no one; for You are not partial to any.

Mat 22:17

Mat 22:17“Therefore, tell us, what do You think? Is it [fn]lawful to give a tax to Caesar, or not?”

Mat 22:18

Mat 22:18But Jesus, knowing their wickedness, said, “Why are you testing Me, you hypocrites?

Mat 22:19

Mat 22:19“Show Me the coin used for the tax.” And they brought Him a [fn]denarius.

Mat 22:20

Mat 22:20And He *said to them, “Whose likeness and inscription is this?”

Mat 22:21

Mat 22:21They *said to Him, “Caesar’s.” Then He *said to them, “Therefore, render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s; and to God the things that are God’s.”

Mat 22:22

Mat 22:22And hearing this, they marveled, and leaving Him, they went away.

The Sadducees and the Resurrection

(Mar 12:18–27; Luk 20:27–40 )

Mat 22:23

On that day^G2250 some Sadducees^G4523 (who say^G3004 there is no^G3361 resurrection^G386) came^G4334 to Jesus and asked^G1905 Him^G846 a question^G1905,

Mat 22:24

Mat 22:24saying, “Teacher, Moses said, ‘IF A MAN DIES HAVING NO CHILDREN, HIS BROTHER AS NEXT OF KIN SHALL MARRY HIS WIFE AND RAISE UP A SEED FOR HIS BROTHER.’

Mat 22:25

Mat 22:25“Now there were seven brothers with us; and the first married and died, and having no [fn]seed, he left his wife to his brother;

Mat 22:26

Mat 22:26so also the second, and the third, down to the seventh.

Mat 22:27

Mat 22:27“And last of all, the woman died.

Mat 22:28

Mat 22:28“In the resurrection, therefore, whose wife of the seven will she be? For they all had married her.”

Mat 22:29

But Jesus^G2424 answered^G611 and said^G3004 to them, “You are mistaken^G4105, not [fn]understanding^G6063 the Scriptures^G1124 nor^G3366 the power^G1411 of God^G2316.
