Laborers in the Vineyard

“For the kingdom^G932 of heaven^G3772 is like^G3664 [fn]a landowner^G3617 who^G3748 went^G1831 out^G1831 early^G260 in the morning^G4404 to hire^G3409 laborers^G2040 for his vineyard^G290.

Mat 20:2

Mat 20:2“Now when he had agreed with the laborers for a [fn]denarius for the day, he sent them into his vineyard.

Mat 20:3

Mat 20:3“And he went out about the [fn]third hour and saw others standing idle in the marketplace;

Mat 20:4

Mat 20:4and to those he said, ‘You also go into the vineyard, and whatever is right I will give you.’ And so they went.

Mat 20:5

Mat 20:5“Again he went out about the [fn]sixth and the ninth hour, and did [fn]the same thing.

Mat 20:6

Mat 20:6“And about the [fn]eleventh hour he went out and found others standing around; and he *said to them, ‘Why have you been standing here idle all day long?’

Mat 20:7

Mat 20:7“They *said to him, ‘Because no one hired us.’ He *said to them, ‘You go into the vineyard too.’

“Now when evening^G3798 came^G1096, the [fn]owner^G2962 of the vineyard^G290 *said^G3004 to his [fn]foreman^G2012, ‘Call^G2564 the laborers^G2040 and pay^G591 them their wages^G3408, beginning^G757 with the last^G2078 group to the first^G4413.’

Mat 20:9

Mat 20:9“And when those hired about the eleventh hour came, each one received a [fn]denarius.

Mat 20:10

Mat 20:10“And when those hired first came, they supposed that they would receive more; [fn]but each of them also received a denarius.

Mat 20:11

Mat 20:11“Now when they received it, they were grumbling at the landowner,

Mat 20:12

Mat 20:12saying, ‘These last men have worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the day and the scorching heat.’

Mat 20:13

Mat 20:13“But he answered and said to one of them, ‘Friend, I am doing you no wrong; did you not agree with me for a denarius?

Mat 20:14

Mat 20:14‘Take what is yours and go, but I wish to give to this last man the same as to you.

Mat 20:15

Mat 20:15‘Is it not lawful for me to do what I wish with what is my own? Or is your eye [fn]envious because I am [fn]generous?’

Mat 20:16

Mat 20:16“So the last shall be first, and the first last.”

Mat 20:17

Mat 20:18

Mat 20:18“Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem; and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn Him to death,

Mat 20:19

Mat 20:19and will deliver Him over to the Gentiles to mock and flog and crucify Him, and on the third day He will be raised up.”

Mat 20:20

Mat 20:21

Mat 20:21And He said to her, “What do you wish?” She *said to Him, “Command that in Your kingdom these two sons of mine may sit one on Your right and one on Your left.”

Mat 20:22

Mat 20:22But Jesus answered and said, “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink?” They *said to Him, “We are able.”

Mat 20:23

Mat 20:23He *said to them, “My cup you shall drink; but to sit on My right and on My left, this is not Mine to give, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared by My Father.”

Mat 20:24

And hearing^G191 this, the ten^G1176 became indignant^G23 with the two^G1417 brothers^G80.

Mat 20:25

Mat 20:25But Jesus called them to Himself and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority over them.

Mat 20:26

Mat 20:26“It is not this way among you, but whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant,

Mat 20:27

Mat 20:27and whoever wishes to be first among you shall be your slave;

Mat 20:28

Mat 20:28just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His [fn]life a ransom for many.”

Sight for the Blind

And as they were leaving^G1607 Jericho^G2410, a large^G4183 crowd^G3793 followed^G190 Him.

Mat 20:30

Mat 20:30And behold, two blind men sitting by the road, hearing that Jesus *was passing by, cried out, saying, “Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!”
