Teaching About Divorce

(Mar 10:1–12 )

[fn]Now^G2532 it happened^G1096 that when^G3753 Jesus^G2424 had finished^G5055 these^G3778 words^G3056, He departed^G3332 from Galilee^G1056 and came^G2064 into the region^G3725 of Judea^G2449 beyond^G4008 the Jordan^G2446;

Mat 19:2

Mat 19:2and [fn]large crowds followed Him, and He healed them there.

Mat 19:3

And^G2532 some Pharisees^G5330 came^G4334 to [fn]Jesus, testing^G3985 Him^G846 and saying^G3004, “Is it lawful^G1832 for a man to [fn]divorce^G630 his wife^G1135 for any^G3956 reason^G156 at all^G3956?”

Mat 19:4

Mat 19:4And He answered and said, “Have you not read that He who created them from the beginning MADE THEM MALE AND FEMALE,

Mat 19:5

Mat 19:5and said, ‘FOR THIS REASON A MAN SHALL LEAVE HIS FATHER AND MOTHER AND BE JOINED TO HIS WIFE, AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH’?

Mat 19:6

Mat 19:6“So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate.”

Mat 19:7

Mat 19:7They *said to Him, “Why then did Moses command to GIVE HER A CERTIFICATE OF DIVORCE AND SEND her AWAY?”

Mat 19:8

Mat 19:8He *said to them, “Because of your hardness of heart Moses permitted you to [fn]divorce your wives; but from the beginning it has not been this way.

Mat 19:9

Mat 19:9“And I say to you, whoever [fn]divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman [fn]commits adultery[fn].”

Mat 19:10

The disciples^G3101 *said^G3004 to Him, “If^G1487 the relationship^G156 of the man^G444 with his wife^G1135 is like^G3779 this^G3779, it is^G4851 better^G4851 not to marry^G1060.”

Mat 19:11

Mat 19:11But He said to them, “Not all men can accept this statement, but only those to whom it has been given.

Mat 19:12

Mat 19:12“For there are eunuchs who were born that way from their mother’s womb; and there are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men; and there are also eunuchs who made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. He who is able to accept this, let him accept it.”

Jesus Blesses Children

Mat 19:13

Then^G5119 some children^G3813 were brought^G4374 to Him so^G2443 that He might lay^G2007 His hands^G5495 on^G2007 them and pray^G4336; and the disciples^G3101 rebuked^G2008 them.

Mat 19:14

Mat 19:14But Jesus said, “[fn]Let the children alone, and do not hinder them from coming to Me; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

Mat 19:15

Mat 19:15And after laying His hands on them, He departed from there.

The Rich Young Ruler

Mat 19:16

And behold^G2400, someone^G1520 came^G4334 to Him and said^G3004, “Teacher^G1320, what^G5101 good^G18 thing^G18 shall I do^G4160 that I may have^G2192 eternal^G166 life^G2222?”

Mat 19:17

Mat 19:17And He said to him, “Why are you asking Me about what is good? There is only One who is good; but if you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments.”

Mat 19:18

Mat 19:18Then he *said to Him, “Which ones?” And Jesus said, “YOU SHALL NOT MURDER; YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY; YOU SHALL NOT STEAL; YOU SHALL NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS;

Mat 19:19

Mat 19:19HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER; and YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.”

Mat 19:20

Mat 19:20The young man *said to Him, “All these things I have kept; what am I still lacking?”

Mat 19:21

Mat 19:21Jesus said to him, “If you wish to be [fn]complete, go and sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”

Mat 19:22

Mat 19:22But when the young man heard this statement, he went away grieving; for he was one who owned much property.

Mat 19:23

And Jesus^G2424 said^G3004 to His disciples^G3101, “Truly^G281 I say^G3004 to you, it is hard^G1423 for a rich^G4145 man^G4145 to enter^G1525 the kingdom^G932 of heaven^G3772.

Mat 19:24

Mat 19:24“And again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”

Mat 19:25

Mat 19:25And when the disciples heard this, they were very astonished and said, “Then who can be saved?”

Mat 19:26

Mat 19:26And looking at them Jesus said to them, “With people this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

Many Who Are First Will Be Last

Mat 19:27

Then^G5119 Peter^G4074 answered^G611 and said^G2036 to Him, “Behold^G2400, we have left^G863 everything^G3956 and followed^G190 You; what^G5101 then^G686 will there be for us?”

Mat 19:28

Mat 19:28And Jesus said to them, “Truly I say to you, that you who have followed Me, in the regeneration when the Son of Man will sit on [fn]His glorious throne, you also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

Mat 19:29

Mat 19:29“And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother [fn]or children or farms for My name’s sake, will receive [fn]one hundred times as much, and will inherit eternal life.
