The Transfiguration

And^G2532 six^G1803 days^G2250 later^G3326 Jesus^G2424 *brought^G3880 with Him Peter^G4074 and James^G2385 and John^G2491 his brother^G80, and *led^G399 them up^G399 on a high^G5308 mountain^G3735 by themselves^G2398.

Mat 17:2

Mat 17:2And He was transfigured before them; and His face shone like the sun, and His garments became as white as light.

Mat 17:3

Mat 17:3And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him.

Mat 17:4

Mat 17:4And Peter answered and said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, I will make three [fn]booths here, one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”

Mat 17:5

Mat 17:5While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a voice out of the cloud said, “This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased; listen to Him!”

Mat 17:6

Mat 17:6And when the disciples heard this, they fell on their faces and were terrified.

Mat 17:7

Mat 17:7And Jesus came to them and touched them and said, “Get up, and do not be afraid.”

Mat 17:8

Mat 17:8And lifting up their eyes, they saw no one except Jesus Himself alone.

Mat 17:9

And as they were coming^G2597 down^G2597 from the mountain^G3735, Jesus^G2424 commanded^G1781 them, saying^G3004, “Tell^G3004 the vision^G3705 to no^G3367 one^G3367 until^G2193 the Son^G5207 of Man^G444 has risen^G1453 from the dead^G3498.”

Mat 17:10

Mat 17:10And His disciples asked Him, saying, “Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”

Mat 17:11

Mat 17:11And He answered and said, “Elijah is coming and will restore all things;

Mat 17:12

Mat 17:12but I say to you that Elijah already came, and they did not recognize him, but did [fn]to him whatever they wished. So also the Son of Man is going to suffer [fn]at their hands.”

Mat 17:13

Mat 17:13Then the disciples understood that He had spoken to them about John the Baptist.

Jesus Casts Out a Demon

Mat 17:14

And when they came^G2064 to the crowd^G3793, a man^G444 came^G4334 up^G4334 to Jesus, falling^G1120 on^G1120 his knees^G1120 before^G1120 Him and saying^G3004,

Mat 17:15

Mat 17:15“[fn]Lord, have mercy on my son, for he has [fn]seizures and suffers terribly; for he often falls into the fire and often into the water.

Mat 17:16

Mat 17:16“And I brought him to Your disciples, and they could not cure him.”

Mat 17:17

Mat 17:17And Jesus answered and said, “O you unbelieving and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring him here to Me.”

Mat 17:18

Mat 17:18And Jesus rebuked him, and the demon came out of him, and the boy was cured [fn]at once.

Mat 17:19

Then^G5119 the disciples^G3101 came^G4334 to Jesus^G2424 privately^G2596^G2398 and said^G3004, “Why^G1223^G5101 could^G1410 we not cast^G1544 it out^G1544?”

Mat 17:20

Mat 17:20And He *said to them, “Because of your little faith; for truly I say to you, if you have faith [fn]the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you.

Mat 17:21

Mat 17:21 [fn][“But this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”]

Mat 17:22

And while they were gathering^G4962 together^G4962 in Galilee^G1056, Jesus^G2424 said^G3004 to them, “The Son^G5207 of Man^G444 is^G3195 going^G3195 to^G3195 be [fn]delivered^G3860 into the hands^G5495 of men^G444;

Mat 17:23

Mat 17:23and they will kill Him, and He will be raised on the third day.” And they were deeply grieved.

The Temple Tax

Mat 17:24

Now when they came^G4334 to Capernaum^G2584, those^G3588 who collected^G2983 the [fn]two-drachma^G1323 tax came^G4334 to Peter^G4074 and said^G3004, “Does your teacher^G1320 not pay^G5055 the [fn]two-drachma^G1323 tax?”

Mat 17:25

Mat 17:25He *said, “Yes.” And when he came into the house, Jesus spoke to him first, saying, “What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth collect tolls or taxes, from their sons or from strangers?”

Mat 17:26

Mat 17:26And when Peter said, “From strangers,” Jesus said to him, “Then the sons are [fn]exempt.

Mat 17:27

Mat 17:27“However, so that we do not [fn]offend them, go to the sea and throw in a hook, and take the first fish that comes up; and when you open its mouth, you will find a [fn]stater. Take that and give it to them for Me and you.”
