God’s Commandments, Man’s Traditions

(Mar 7:1–23 )

Then^G5119 some Pharisees^G5330 and scribes^G1122 *came^G4334 to Jesus^G2424 from Jerusalem^G2414 and said^G3004,

Mat 15:2“Why do Your disciples break the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat bread.”

Mat 15:3

Mat 15:3And He answered and said to them, “Why do you yourselves transgress the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition?

Mat 15:4

Mat 15:4“For God said, ‘HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER,’ and, ‘HE WHO SPEAKS EVIL OF FATHER OR MOTHER IS TO [fn]BE PUT TO DEATH.’

Mat 15:5

Mat 15:5“But you say, ‘Whoever says to his father or mother, “Whatever you might benefit from me [fn]is given to God,”

Mat 15:6

Mat 15:6he need not [fn]honor his father.’ And by this you invalidated the word of God for the sake of your tradition.

Mat 15:7

Mat 15:7“You hypocrites, rightly did Isaiah prophesy of you:

Mat 15:8

‘THIS^G3778 PEOPLE^G2992 HONORS^G5091 ME WITH THEIR LIPS^G5491,

BUT THEIR HEART^G2588 IS FAR^G4206 AWAY^G568 FROM ME.

Mat 15:9

‘BUT IN^G3155 VAIN^G3155 DO THEY WORSHIP^G4576 ME,

TEACHING^G1321 AS DOCTRINES^G1319 THE COMMANDS^G1778 OF MEN^G444.’”

Mat 15:10

After Jesus called^G4341 the crowd^G3793 to Him, He said^G3004 to them, “Hear^G191 and understand^G4920.

Mat 15:11

Mat 15:11“It is not what enters into the mouth that defiles the man, but what proceeds out of the mouth, this defiles the man.”

Mat 15:12

Then^G5119 the disciples^G3101 *came^G4334 and *said^G3004 to Him, “Do You know^G6063 that the Pharisees^G5330 were [fn]offended^G4624 when they heard^G191 this^G3588 statement^G3056?”

Mat 15:13

Mat 15:13But He answered and said, “Every plant which My heavenly Father did not plant shall be uprooted.

Mat 15:14

Mat 15:14“Let them alone; they are blind guides [fn]of the blind. And if a blind man guides a blind man, both will fall into a pit.”

The Heart of Man

Mat 15:15

Now Peter^G4074 answered^G611 and said^G3004 to Him, “Explain^G5419 the parable^G3850 to us.”

Mat 15:16

Mat 15:16And [fn]Jesus said, “Are you still lacking in understanding also?

Mat 15:17

Mat 15:17“Do you not understand that everything that goes into the mouth passes into the stomach, and goes into the sewer?

Mat 15:18

Mat 15:18“But the things that proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and those defile the man.

Mat 15:19

Mat 15:19“For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, sexual immoralities, thefts, false witness, slanders.

Mat 15:20

Mat 15:20“These are the things which defile the man; but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile the man.”

The Canaanite Woman

(Mar 7:24–30 )

Mat 15:21

And going^G1831 away^G1831 from^G1564 there^G1564, Jesus^G2424 withdrew^G402 into the district^G3313 of Tyre^G5184 and Sidon^G4605.

Mat 15:22

Mat 15:22And behold, a Canaanite woman from that region came out and began to cry out, saying, “Have mercy on me, Lord, Son of David; my daughter is cruelly demon-possessed.”

Mat 15:23

Mat 15:23But He did not answer her a word. And His disciples came and were pleading with Him, saying, “Send her away, because she keeps shouting [fn]at us.”

Mat 15:24

Mat 15:24But He answered and said, “I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”

Mat 15:25

Mat 15:25But she came and [fn]was bowing down before Him, saying, “Lord, help me!”

Mat 15:26

Mat 15:26And He answered and said, “It is not [fn]good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.”

Mat 15:27

Mat 15:27But she said, “Yes, Lord; [fn]but even the dogs feed on the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.”

Mat 15:28

Mat 15:28Then Jesus answered and said to her, “O woman, your faith is great; it shall be done for you as you wish.” And her daughter was healed [fn]at once.

Jesus Heals the Crowds

(Mar 7:31–37 )

Mat 15:29

And departing^G3327 from^G1564 there^G1564, Jesus^G2424 went^G2064 along^G3844 by the Sea^G2281 of Galilee^G1056, and having gone^G305 up^G305 on the mountain^G3735, He was sitting^G2521 there^G1563.

Mat 15:30

Mat 15:30And [fn]large crowds came to Him, bringing with them those who were lame, crippled, blind, mute, and many others, and they laid them down at His feet; and He healed them.

Mat 15:31

Mat 15:31So the crowd marveled as they saw the mute speaking, the crippled [fn]restored, and the lame walking, and the blind seeing; and they glorified the God of Israel.

Jesus Feeds Four Thousand

(Mar 8:1–10 )

Mat 15:32

And Jesus^G2424 called^G4341 His disciples^G3101 to Him, and said^G3004, “I feel^G4697 compassion^G4697 for the crowd^G3793, because^G3754 they [fn]have remained^G4357 with Me now^G2235 three^G5140 days^G2250 and have^G2192 nothing^G3756^G5100 to eat^G2068; and I do not want^G2309 to send^G630 them away^G630 hungry^G3523, lest they faint^G1590 on the way^G3598.”

Mat 15:33

Mat 15:33And the disciples *said to Him, “Where would we get so many loaves in this desolate place to satisfy such a large crowd?”

Mat 15:34

Mat 15:34And Jesus *said to them, “How many loaves do you have?” And they said, “Seven, and a few small fish.”

Mat 15:35

Mat 15:35And He directed the crowd to [fn]sit down on the ground;

Mat 15:36

Mat 15:36and He took the seven loaves and the fish; and giving thanks, He broke them and kept giving them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds.
