The Transfiguration

(Mat 16:28—17:13; Luk 9:27–36; 2Pe 1:16–18 )

And Jesus was saying^G3004 to them, “Truly^G281 I say^G3004 to you, there are some^G5100 of those^G3588 who are standing^G2476 here^G5602 who^G3748 will not taste^G1089 death^G2288 until^G2193 they see^G3708 the kingdom^G932 of God^G2316 having come^G2064 in power^G1411.”

Mar 9:2

And six^G1803 days^G2250 later^G3326, Jesus^G2424 *took^G3880 with Him Peter^G4074 and James^G2385 and John^G2491, and *brought^G399 them up^G399 on a high^G5308 mountain^G3735 alone^G3441 by themselves^G2596^G2398. And He was transfigured^G3339 before^G1715 them;

Mar 9:3

Mar 9:3and His garments were shining intensely white, as no launderer on earth can whiten them.

Mar 9:4

Mar 9:4And Elijah appeared to them along with Moses and they were conversing with Jesus.

Mar 9:5

Mar 9:5And Peter answered and *said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; let us make three [fn]booths, one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”

Mar 9:6

Mar 9:6For he did not know what to answer; for they became terrified.

Mar 9:7

Mar 9:7Then a cloud [fn]formed, overshadowing them, and a voice [fn]came out of the cloud, “This is My beloved Son, [fn]listen to Him!”

Mar 9:8

Mar 9:8And all at once when they looked around, they saw no one with them anymore, except Jesus alone.

And as they were coming^G2597 down^G2597 from the mountain^G3735, He gave^G1291 them orders^G1291 not to recount^G1334 to anyone^G3367 what^G3739 they had seen^G3708, [fn]until^G1487^G3361^G3752 the Son^G5207 of Man^G444 rose^G450 from the dead^G3498.

Mar 9:10

Mar 9:10And they [fn]seized upon [fn]that statement, arguing with one another [fn]what rising from the dead meant.

Mar 9:11

Mar 9:11And they began asking Him, saying, “Why is it that the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”

Mar 9:12

Mar 9:12And He said to them, “Elijah does first come and restore all things. And yet how is it written of the Son of Man that He will suffer many things and be treated with contempt?

Mar 9:13

Mar 9:13“But I say to you that Elijah has [fn]indeed come, and they did to him whatever they wished, just as it is written of him.”

I Believe, Help My Unbelief

Mar 9:14

And when they came^G2064 back to the disciples^G3101, they saw^G3708 a large^G4183 crowd^G3793 around^G4012 them, and scribes^G1122 arguing^G4802 with them.

Mar 9:15

Mar 9:15And immediately, when the entire crowd saw Him, they were amazed. And as they ran up, they were greeting Him.

Mar 9:16

Mar 9:16And He asked them, “What are you arguing with them?”

Mar 9:17

Mar 9:17And one of the crowd answered Him, “Teacher, I brought You my son, possessed with a spirit which makes him mute;

Mar 9:18

Mar 9:18and [fn]whenever it seizes him, it [fn]slams him to the ground and he foams at the mouth, and grinds his teeth and [fn]becomes rigid. I told Your disciples to cast it out, and they could not do it.”

Mar 9:19

Mar 9:19And He *answered them and *said, “O unbelieving generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring him to Me!”

Mar 9:20

Mar 9:20And they brought [fn]the boy to Him. When he saw Him, immediately the spirit threw him into a convulsion, and falling to the ground, he began rolling around, foaming at the mouth.

Mar 9:21

Mar 9:21And He asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood.

Mar 9:22

Mar 9:22“And it has often thrown him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if You can do anything, take pity on us and help us!”

Mar 9:23

Mar 9:23And Jesus said to him, “‘If You can?’ All things are possible to him who believes.”

Mar 9:24

Mar 9:24Immediately the boy’s father cried out and was saying, “I do believe; help my unbelief.”

Mar 9:25

Mar 9:25Now when Jesus saw that a crowd was [fn]rapidly gathering, He rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, “You mute and deaf spirit, [fn]I command you, come out of him and do not enter him [fn]again.”

Mar 9:26

Mar 9:26And after crying out and throwing him into terrible convulsions, it came out; and the boy became so much like a corpse that most of them said, “He is dead!”

Mar 9:27

Mar 9:27But Jesus took him by the hand and raised him; and he stood up.

Mar 9:28

Mar 9:28And when He came into the house, His disciples began questioning Him privately, “Why could we not cast it out?”

Mar 9:29

Mar 9:29And He said to them, “This kind cannot come out by anything but prayer.”

Jesus Foretells His Death and Resurrection

Mar 9:30

From^G2547 there^G2547 they went^G1831 out^G1831 and were going^G3899 through^G1223 Galilee^G1056, and^G2532 He was not^G3756 wanting^G2309 anyone^G5100 to know^G1097 about it.

Mar 9:31

Mar 9:31For He was teaching His disciples and telling them, “The Son of Man is to be [fn]delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill Him; and when He has been killed, He will rise again three days later.”

Mar 9:32

Mar 9:32But they [fn]did not understand this statement, and they were afraid to ask Him.

Mar 9:33

And they came^G2064 to Capernaum^G2584; and when He [fn]was in the house^G3614, He began to question^G1905 them, “What^G5101 were you discussing^G1260 on the way^G3598?”

Mar 9:34

Mar 9:34But they kept silent, for on the way they had discussed with one another which of them was the greatest.

Mar 9:35

Mar 9:35And sitting down, He called the twelve and *said to them, “If anyone wants to be first, [fn]he shall be last of all and servant of all.”

Mar 9:36

Mar 9:36And taking a child, He set him [fn]before them. And taking him in His arms, He said to them,

Mar 9:37

Mar 9:37“Whoever receives [fn]one child like this in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me does not receive Me, but Him who sent Me.”

Mar 9:38

Mar 9:39

Mar 9:39But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him, for there is no one who will perform a miracle in My name, and be able soon afterward to speak evil of Me.

Mar 9:40

Mar 9:40“For he who is not against us is [fn]for us.

Mar 9:41

Mar 9:41“For whoever gives you a cup of water to drink in My name because you are of Christ, truly I say to you, he will not lose his reward.

Mar 9:43

Mar 9:43“And if your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life crippled, than, having your two hands, to go into [fn]hell, into the unquenchable fire,

Mar 9:45“And if your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life lame, than, having your two feet, to be cast into [fn]hell,

Mar 9:49

“For everyone^G3956 will be salted^G233 with fire^G4442.

Mar 9:50

Mar 9:50“Salt is good; but if the salt becomes unsalty, with what will you [fn]make it salty again? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another.”
