Luk 8:2

Luk 8:2and also some women who had been healed of evil spirits and sicknesses: Mary who was called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out,

Luk 8:3

Luk 8:3and Joanna the wife of Chuza, Herod’s manager, and Susanna, and many others who were ministering to them from their possessions.

The Parable of the Sower

(Mat 13:1–9; Mar 4:1–9 )

Luk 8:4

Now when a large^G4183 crowd^G3793 was coming^G4896 together^G4896, and those^G3588 from the various^G2596 cities^G4172 were journeying^G1975 to Him, He spoke^G3004 by way^G1223 of a parable^G3850:

Luk 8:5

Luk 8:5“The sower went out to sow his seed. And as he sowed, some fell beside the road, and it was trampled under foot and the birds of the [fn]air ate it up.

Luk 8:6

Luk 8:6“And other seed fell on rock and as soon as it grew up, it withered away, because it had no moisture.

Luk 8:7

Luk 8:7“And other seed fell among the thorns, and when the thorns grew up with it, they choked it out.

Luk 8:8

Luk 8:8“And other seed fell into the good soil; and growing up, it produced a crop one hundred times as great.” As He said these things, He would call out, “He who has ears to hear, [fn]let him hear.”

The Parable of the Sower Explained

Luk 8:9

Luk 8:10

Luk 8:10And He said, “To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God, but to the rest it is in parables, so that SEEING THEY MAY NOT SEE, AND HEARING THEY MAY NOT UNDERSTAND.

Luk 8:11

Luk 8:12

Luk 8:12“And those beside the road are those who have heard; then the devil comes and takes away the word from their heart, so that they will not believe and be saved.

Luk 8:13

Luk 8:13“And those on the rock are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy, and these have no root; [fn]they believe for a while, and in time of temptation fall away.

Luk 8:14

Luk 8:14“And the seed which fell among the thorns, these are the ones who have heard, and as they go on their way they are choked with worries and riches and pleasures of life, and do not bear ripe fruit.

Luk 8:15

Luk 8:15“But the seed in the good soil, these are the ones who have heard the word in an honest and good heart, and hold it fast, and bear fruit with [fn]perseverance.

A Lampstand and the Light

(Mar 4:21–25 )

Luk 8:16

Luk 8:17

Luk 8:17“For nothing is hidden that will not become evident, nor anything secret that will not be known and come to light.

Luk 8:18

Luk 8:18“So beware how you listen, for whoever has, to him more shall be given; and whoever does not have, even what he [fn]thinks he has shall be taken away from him.”

Jesus’ Mother and Brothers

(Mat 12:46–50, Mar 3:31–35 )

Luk 8:19

And His mother^G3384 and brothers^G80 came^G3854 to Him, and they were unable^G3756^G1410 to get^G4940 to Him because^G1223 of the crowd^G3793.

Luk 8:20

Luk 8:20And it was reported to Him, “Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside, wishing to see You.”

Luk 8:21

Luk 8:21But He answered and said to them, “My mother and My brothers are these who hear the word of God and do it.”

Jesus Calms a Storm

(Mat 8:23–27; Mar 4:35–41 )

Luk 8:22

Luk 8:23

Luk 8:23But as they were sailing along, He fell asleep, and a windstorm descended on the lake, and they began to be swamped and in danger.

Luk 8:24

Luk 8:24And they came to Him and woke Him up, saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” And He woke up and rebuked the wind and the surging waves, and they stopped, and [fn]it became calm.

Luk 8:25

Luk 8:25And He said to them, “Where is your faith?” They were fearful and marveled, saying to one another, “Who then is this, that He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey Him?”

Jesus Saves a Man from Many Demons

(Mat 8:28—9:1; Mar 5:1–20 )

Luk 8:26

Then^G2532 they sailed^G2668 to the region^G5561 of the Gerasenes^G1086, which^G3748 is opposite^G495 Galilee^G1056.

Luk 8:27

Luk 8:27And when He came out onto the land, a man from the city met Him, one who was possessed with demons and had not put on any garment for a long time, and was not living in a house, but in the tombs.

Luk 8:28

Luk 8:28Now seeing Jesus, he cried out and fell before Him, and said in a loud voice, “[fn]What do I have to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg You, do not torment me.”

Luk 8:29

Luk 8:29For He had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For it had seized him many times, and he was bound with chains and shackles, being kept under guard. And yet breaking his bonds, he was driven by the demon into the desolate regions.

Luk 8:30

Luk 8:30And Jesus asked him, “What is your name?” And he said, “Legion,” for many demons had entered him.

Luk 8:31

Luk 8:31And they were pleading with Him not to command them to go away into the abyss.

Luk 8:32

Now^G1161 there was a herd^G34 of many^G2425 swine^G5519 feeding^G1006 there^G1563 on the mountain^G3735, and the demons pleaded^G3870 with Him to permit^G2010 them to enter^G1525 [fn]the swine. And He gave^G2010 them permission^G2010.

Luk 8:33

Luk 8:33And when the demons came out of the man, they entered the swine, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and was drowned.

Luk 8:34

And when the herdsmen^G1006 saw^G3708 what had happened^G1096, they ran^G5343 away^G5343 and reported^G518 it in the city^G4172 and in^G68 the^G68 countryside^G68.

Luk 8:35

Luk 8:35And the people went out to see what had happened, and they came to Jesus, and found the man from whom the demons had gone out, sitting down at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind. And they were afraid.

Luk 8:36

Luk 8:36And those who had seen it reported to them how the man who was demon-possessed had been [fn]saved.

Luk 8:37

Luk 8:37And all the people of the country of the Gerasenes and the surrounding district asked Him to leave them, for they were gripped with great fear. And He got into a boat and returned.

Luk 8:38

Luk 8:38But the man from whom the demons had gone out was begging Him that he might [fn]accompany Him. But He sent him away, saying,

Luk 8:39

Luk 8:39“Return to your house and recount what great things God has done for you.” So he went away, proclaiming throughout the whole city what great things Jesus had done for him.

Jesus Heals a Woman and Jairus’ Daughter

Luk 8:40

And as Jesus^G2424 returned^G5290, the crowd^G3793 welcomed^G588 Him, for they had all^G3956 been^G1510 waiting^G4328 for^G4328 Him.

Luk 8:41

Luk 8:41And behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was [fn]an official of the synagogue. And falling at Jesus’ feet, he began to plead with Him to come to his house,

Luk 8:42

Luk 8:42for he had an [fn]only daughter, about twelve years old, and she was dying. But as He went, the crowds were pressing against Him.

Luk 8:43

And a woman^G1135 who had^G1722 a hemorrhage^G4511^G129 for twelve^G1427 years^G2094, and could^G2480 not be healed^G2323 by anyone^G3762,

Luk 8:44

Luk 8:44came up behind Him and touched the fringe of His garment, and immediately her hemorrhage stopped.

Luk 8:45

Luk 8:45And Jesus said, “Who is the one who touched Me?” And while they were all denying it, Peter said, “Master, the crowds are surrounding and pressing in on You.”

Luk 8:46

Luk 8:46But Jesus said, “Someone did touch Me, for I knew that power had gone out of Me.”

Luk 8:47

Luk 8:47And when the woman saw that she had not escaped notice, she came trembling. And falling down before Him, she declared in the presence of all the people the reason why she had touched Him and how she had been immediately healed.

Luk 8:48

Luk 8:48And He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has [fn]saved you; go in peace.”

Luk 8:49

While He was still^G2089 speaking^G2980, someone^G5100 *came^G2064 from the house of the synagogue^G752 official^G752, saying^G3004, “Your daughter^G2364 has died^G2348; do not trouble^G4660 the Teacher^G1320 anymore^G3371.”
