Jesus Is Born in Bethlehem

(Mat 1:18–25 )

Now^G1161 it happened^G1096 that in those^G1565 days^G2250 a decree^G1378 went^G1831 out^G1831 from Caesar^G2541 Augustus^G828 for a census^G583 to^G583 be^G583 taken^G583 of all^G3956 [fn]the inhabited^G3625 earth^G3625.

Luk 2:2

Luk 2:2 [fn]This was the first census taken while [fn]Quirinius was governor of Syria.

Luk 2:3

Luk 2:3And everyone was going to be registered for the census, each to his own city.

Luk 2:4

Luk 2:4And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David,

Luk 2:5

Luk 2:5in order to register along with Mary, who was betrothed to him, and was with child.

Luk 2:6

Luk 2:6Now it happened that while they were there, the days were fulfilled for her to give birth.

Luk 2:7

Luk 2:7And she gave birth to her firstborn son; and she wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him in a [fn]manger, because there was no place for them in the [fn]guest room.

Luk 2:8

In the same^G846 region^G5561 there were some shepherds^G4166 staying^G63 out^G63 in^G63 the^G63 fields^G63 and keeping^G5442 watch^G5438 over^G1909 their flock^G4167 by night^G3571.

Luk 2:9

Luk 2:9And an angel of the [fn]Lord stood before them, and the glory of the [fn]Lord shone around them; and they were terribly frightened.

Luk 2:10

Luk 2:10But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people.

Luk 2:11

Luk 2:11For today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is [fn]Christ the Lord.

Luk 2:12

Luk 2:12“And this will be the sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a [fn]manger.”

Luk 2:13

Luk 2:13And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,

Luk 2:14

“Glory^G1391 to God^G2316 in the highest^G5310,

And on earth^G1093 peace^G1515 among^G1722 men^G444 [fn]with whom He is pleased^G2107.”

Luk 2:15

And^G2532 it happened^G1096 that when^G5613 the angels^G32 had gone^G565 away^G565 from them into heaven^G3772, the shepherds^G4166 began saying^G2980 to one^G240 another^G240, “Let us go^G1330 to Bethlehem^G965 then^G1211, and see^G3708 this^G3778 thing^G4487 that has happened^G1096 which^G3739 the Lord^G2962 has made^G1107 known^G1107 to us.”

Luk 2:16

Luk 2:16So they went in a hurry and found their way to Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in the [fn]manger.

Luk 2:17

Luk 2:17And when they had seen this, they made known the statement which had been told them about this Child.

Luk 2:18

Luk 2:18And all who heard it marveled at the things which were told them by the shepherds.

Luk 2:19

Luk 2:19But Mary was treasuring all these things, pondering them in her heart.

Luk 2:20

Luk 2:20And the shepherds went back, glorifying and praising God for all that they had heard and seen, just as was told them.

Jesus Presented at the Temple

Luk 2:21

And when^G3753 eight^G3638 days^G2250 were fulfilled^G4130 so that they could circumcise^G4059 Him, His name^G3686 was called^G2564 Jesus^G2424, the name^G2564 given^G2564 by the angel^G32 before^G4253 He was conceived^G4815 in the womb^G2836.

Luk 2:22

And when^G3753 the days^G2250 for their cleansing^G2512 according^G2596 to the Law^G3551 of Moses^G3475 were fulfilled^G4130, they brought^G321 Him up^G321 to Jerusalem^G2414 to present^G3936 Him to the [fn]Lord^G2962

Luk 2:23

Luk 2:23(as it is written in the Law of the [fn]Lord, “EVERY firstborn MALE THAT OPENS THE WOMB SHALL BE CALLED HOLY TO THE [fn]LORD”),

Luk 2:24

Luk 2:24and to offer a sacrifice according to what was said in the Law of the [fn]Lord, “A PAIR OF TURTLEDOVES OR TWO YOUNG PIGEONS.”

Luk 2:25

And behold^G2400, there was a man^G444 in Jerusalem^G2419 whose^G3739 name^G3686 was Simeon^G4826, and this^G3778 man^G444 was righteous^G1342 and devout^G2126, waiting^G4327 for the [fn]comfort^G3874 of Israel^G2474, and the Holy^G40 Spirit^G4151 was upon him.

Luk 2:26

Luk 2:26And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the [fn]Lord’s [fn]Christ.

Luk 2:27

Luk 2:27And he came in the Spirit into the temple, and when the parents brought in the child Jesus [fn]to carry out for Him the custom of the Law,

Luk 2:28

Luk 2:28then he took Him into his arms and blessed God, and said,

Luk 2:29

“Now^G3568 Master^G1203, You are releasing^G630 Your slave^G1401 in peace^G1515,

According^G2596 to Your word^G4487.

Luk 2:30

For my eyes^G3788 have seen^G3708 Your salvation^G4992,

Luk 2:31

Which^G3739 You prepared^G2090 in the presence^G4383 of all^G3956 peoples^G2992,

Luk 2:32

A LIGHT^G5457 FOR REVELATION^G602 TO THE GENTILES^G1484,

And for the glory^G1391 of Your people^G2992 Israel^G2474.”

Luk 2:33

And His father^G3962 and mother^G3384 were^G2296 marveling^G2296 at the things which were being said^G2980 about^G4012 Him.

Luk 2:34

Luk 2:34And Simeon blessed them and said to Mary His mother, “Behold, this Child is appointed for the fall and [fn]rise of many in Israel, and for a sign to be opposed—

Luk 2:35

Luk 2:35and a sword will pierce through your own soul as well—that the thoughts from many hearts may be revealed.”

Luk 2:36

And there was a prophetess^G4398, [fn]Anna^G451 the daughter^G2364 of Phanuel^G5323, of the tribe^G5443 of Asher^G768. She was advanced^G4260 in [fn]years^G2250 having lived^G2198 with her husband^G435 seven^G2033 years^G2250 from^G575 when she was a virgin^G3932,

Luk 2:37

Luk 2:37and then as a widow to the age of eighty-four. She never left the temple, serving night and day with fastings and prayers.

Luk 2:38

Luk 2:38And at that very [fn]moment she came up and began giving thanks to God, and continued to speak of Him to all those who were waiting for the redemption of Jerusalem.

The Return to Nazareth

Luk 2:39

And when^G5613 they had finished^G5055 everything^G3956 according^G2596 to the Law^G3551 of the [fn]Lord^G2962, they returned^G1994 to Galilee^G1056, to their own^G1438 city^G4172 of Nazareth^G3478.

Luk 2:40

Luk 2:40Now the Child continued to grow and become strong, being filled with wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him.

The Boy Jesus in the Temple

Luk 2:41

And His parents^G1118 would go^G4198 to Jerusalem^G2419 every^G2596 year^G2094 at the Feast^G1859 of the Passover^G3957.

Luk 2:42

Luk 2:42And when He became twelve years old, they went up there according to the custom of the Feast;

Luk 2:43

Luk 2:43and as they were returning, after finishing the days of the Feast, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. But His parents did not know.

Luk 2:44

Luk 2:44But supposing Him to be in the caravan, they went a day’s journey, and they began searching for Him among their relatives and acquaintances.

Luk 2:45

Luk 2:45When they did not find Him, they returned to Jerusalem searching for Him.

Luk 2:46

Luk 2:46And it happened that after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions.

Luk 2:47

Luk 2:47And all who heard Him were astounded at His understanding and His answers.

Luk 2:48

Luk 2:48When they saw Him, they were astonished, and His mother said to Him, “Child, why have You treated us this way? Behold, Your father and I [fn]have been anxiously searching for You.”

Luk 2:49

Luk 2:49And He said to them, “Why is it that you were searching for Me? Did you not know that I had to be in My Father’s [fn]house?”

Luk 2:50

Luk 2:50But they did not understand the statement which He had spoken to them.

Luk 2:51

Luk 2:51And He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and He continued in subjection to them, and His mother was treasuring all these [fn]things in her heart.

Luk 2:52

And Jesus^G2424 was advancing^G4298 in wisdom^G4678 and [fn]stature^G2244, and in favor^G5485 with God^G2316 and men^G444.
