Jesus Heals on the Sabbath

And it happened^G1096 that when^G1722 He went^G2064 into the house^G3624 of one^G5100 of the [fn]leaders^G758 of the Pharisees^G5330 on the Sabbath^G4521 to eat^G2068 bread^G740, they were watching^G3906 Him closely^G3906.

Luk 14:2

Luk 14:2And behold, in front of Him was a man suffering from dropsy.

Luk 14:3

Luk 14:3And Jesus answered and spoke to the scholars of the Law and Pharisees, saying, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath, or not?”

Luk 14:4

Luk 14:4But they were silent. And He took hold of him, healed him, and sent him away.

Luk 14:5

Luk 14:5And He said to them, “[fn]Which one of you will have a son or an ox fall into a well, and will not immediately pull him out on a Sabbath day?”

Luk 14:6

Luk 14:6And they could make no reply to this.

Parable of the Wedding Feast

Luk 14:7

And He was telling^G3004 a parable^G3850 to the invited^G2564 guests^G2564 when He noticed^G1907 how^G4459 they were picking^G1586 out^G1586 the places^G4411 of^G4411 honor^G4411 at the table, saying^G3004 to them,

Luk 14:8

Luk 14:8“When you are invited by someone to a wedding feast, do not recline at the place of honor, lest someone more highly regarded than you be invited by him,

Luk 14:9

Luk 14:9and he who invited you both will come and say to you, ‘Give your place to this man,’ and then in shame you [fn]proceed to occupy the last place.

Luk 14:10

Luk 14:10“But when you are invited, go and recline at the last place, so that when the one who has invited you comes, he may say to you, ‘Friend, move up higher’; then you will have honor in the sight of all who recline at the table with you.

Luk 14:11

Luk 14:11“For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

Luk 14:12

And He also^G2532 went on to say^G3004 to the one who had invited^G2564 Him, “When^G3752 you give^G4160 a luncheon^G712 or^G2228 a dinner^G1173, do not invite^G5455 your friends^G5384 or^G3366 your brothers^G80 or^G3366 your relatives^G4773 or^G3366 rich^G4145 neighbors^G1069, lest^G3379 they also^G2532 invite^G479 you in^G479 return^G479 and that will be your repayment^G468.

Luk 14:13

Luk 14:13“But when you give a [fn]reception, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind,

Luk 14:14

Luk 14:14and you will be blessed, since they [fn]do not have the means to repay you; for it will be repaid to you at the resurrection of the righteous.”

Luk 14:15

But when one^G5100 of those^G3588 who were reclining^G4873 at the table with Him heard^G191 this^G3778, he said^G3004 to Him, “Blessed^G3107 is everyone^G3748 who^G3748 will eat^G2068 bread^G740 in the kingdom^G932 of God^G2316!”

Parable of the Dinner

Luk 14:16

Luk 14:16And He said to him, “A man was giving a big dinner, and he invited many.

Luk 14:17

Luk 14:17“And at the dinner hour he sent his slave to say to those who had been invited, ‘Come, for everything is ready now.’

Luk 14:18

Luk 14:18“But they all alike began to make excuses. The first one said to him, ‘I have bought a [fn]piece of land and I need to go out and look at it. I ask you, consider me excused.’

Luk 14:19

Luk 14:19“And another one said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to try them out. I ask you, consider me excused.’

Luk 14:20

Luk 14:20“And another one said, ‘I have married a wife, and for that reason I cannot come.’

Luk 14:21

Luk 14:21“And when the slave came back, he reported these things to his master. Then the head of the household became angry and said to his slave, ‘Go out at once into the streets and lanes of the city and bring in here the poor and crippled and blind and lame.’

Luk 14:22

Luk 14:22“And the slave said, ‘Master, what you commanded has been done, and still there is room.’

Luk 14:23

Luk 14:23“And the master said to the slave, ‘Go out into the highways and along the [fn]fences, and compel them to come in, so that my house may be filled.

Luk 14:24

Luk 14:24‘For I tell you, none of those men who were invited shall taste of my dinner.’”

Luk 14:25

Now^G1161 many^G4183 crowds^G3793 were going^G4848 along^G4848 with Him, and He turned^G4762 and said^G3004 to them,

Luk 14:26

Luk 14:26“If anyone comes to Me, and does not [fn]hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple.

Luk 14:27

Luk 14:27“Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple.

Luk 14:28

Luk 14:28“For which one of you, when he wants to build a tower, does not first sit down and calculate the cost to see if he has enough to complete it?

Luk 14:29

Luk 14:29“Lest, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who observe it begin to ridicule him,

Luk 14:30

Luk 14:30saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish.’

Luk 14:31

Luk 14:31“Or what king, when he sets out to meet another king in battle, will not first sit down and consider whether he is strong enough with ten thousand men to encounter the one coming against him with twenty thousand?

Luk 14:32

Luk 14:32“Or else, while the other is still far away, he sends [fn]a delegation and asks for terms of peace.

Luk 14:33

Luk 14:33“So then, none of you can be My disciple who does not give up all his own possessions.
