Statutes Against Eating Blood

Then Yahweh^H3068 spoke^H1696 to Moses^H4872, saying^H559,

Lev 17:2“Speak to Aaron and to his sons and to all the sons of Israel and say to them, ‘This is what Yahweh has commanded, saying,

Lev 17:3

Lev 17:3“Any man from the house of Israel who slaughters an ox or a lamb or a goat in the camp, or who slaughters it outside the camp,

Lev 17:4

Lev 17:4and has not brought it to the doorway of the tent of meeting to bring it near as an offering to Yahweh before the [fn]tabernacle of Yahweh, it will be counted as bloodguiltiness to that man. He has shed blood, and that man shall be cut off from among his people.

Lev 17:5

Lev 17:5“[fn]The reason is so that the sons of Israel may bring their sacrifices which they were sacrificing in the open field, that they may bring them in to Yahweh, at the doorway of the tent of meeting to the priest, and sacrifice them as sacrifices of peace offerings to Yahweh.

Lev 17:6

Lev 17:6“And the priest shall splash the blood on the altar of Yahweh at the doorway of the tent of meeting and offer up the fat in smoke as a soothing aroma to Yahweh.

Lev 17:7

Lev 17:7“And they shall no longer sacrifice their sacrifices to the [fn]goat demons with which they play the harlot. This shall be a perpetual statute to them throughout their generations.”’

Lev 17:8

“Then you shall say^H559 to them, ‘Any^H376 man^H376 from the house^H1004 of Israel^H3478, or from the sojourners^H1616 who^H834 sojourn^H1481 among^H8432 them, who^H834 offers^H5927 a burnt^H5930 offering^H5930 or^H176 sacrifice^H2077,

Lev 17:9

Lev 17:9and does not bring it to the doorway of the tent of meeting to [fn]offer it to Yahweh, that man also shall be cut off from his people.

Lev 17:10

‘And any^H376 man^H376 from the house^H1004 of Israel^H3478, or from the sojourners^H1616 who sojourn^H1481 among^H8432 them, who^H834 eats^H398 any^H3605 blood^H1818, I will set^H5414 My face^H6440 against that person^H5315 who eats^H398 blood^H1818 and will cut^H3772 him off^H3772 from among^H7130 his people^H5971.

Lev 17:11

Lev 17:11‘For the [fn]life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you on the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement by the [fn]life.’

Lev 17:12

Lev 17:12“Therefore I said to the sons of Israel, ‘No person among you may eat blood, and no sojourner who sojourns among you may eat blood.’

Lev 17:13

Lev 17:13“So any man from the sons of Israel, or from the sojourners who sojourn among them, who in hunting catches a beast or a bird which may be eaten, shall pour out its blood and cover it with earth.

Lev 17:14

“For as for the [fn]life^H5315 of all^H3605 flesh^H1320, its blood^H1818 is identified with its [fn]life^H5315. Therefore I said^H559 to the sons^H1121 of Israel^H3478, ‘You are not to eat^H398 the blood^H1818 of any^H3605 flesh^H1320, for the [fn]life^H5315 of all^H3605 flesh^H1320 is its blood^H1818; whoever^H3605 eats^H398 it shall be cut^H3772 off^H3772.’

Lev 17:15

Lev 17:15“And when any person eats an animal which dies or is torn by beasts, whether he is a native or a sojourner, he shall wash his clothes and bathe in water and remain unclean until evening; then he will become clean.
