Nadab and Abihu Offer Strange Fire

Then Nadab^H5070 and Abihu^H30, the sons^H1121 of Aaron^H175, took^H3947 their respective^H376 firepans^H4289 and put^H5414 fire^H784 in them. Then they placed^H7760 incense^H7004 on it and offered^H7126 strange^H2114 fire^H784 before^H6440 Yahweh^H3068, which^H834 He had not commanded^H6680 them.

Lev 10:2

Lev 10:2And fire came out from the presence of Yahweh and consumed them, and they died before Yahweh.

Lev 10:3

Lev 10:3Then Moses said to Aaron, “It is what Yahweh spoke, saying,

‘By those who come^H7126 near^H7138 Me I [fn]will be treated^H6942 as^H6942 holy^H6942,

And before^H5921^H6440 all^H3605 the people^H5971 I will be glorified^H3513.’”

So Aaron^H175 kept^H1826 silent^H1826.

Lev 10:4

Then Moses^H4872 called^H7121 to Mishael^H4332 and Elzaphan^H469, the sons^H1121 of Aaron’s^H175 uncle^H1730 Uzziel^H5816, and said^H559 to them, “Come^H7126 near^H7126, carry^H5375 your [fn]relatives^H251 away^H5375 from the front^H6440 of the sanctuary^H6944 to the outside^H4480^H2351 of the camp^H4264.”

Lev 10:5

Lev 10:5So they came near and carried them still in their tunics to the outside of the camp, as Moses had said.

Lev 10:6

Lev 10:6Then Moses said to Aaron and to his sons Eleazar and Ithamar, “Do not [fn]uncover your heads nor tear your clothes, so that you will not die and that He will not become wrathful against all the congregation. But your [fn]relatives, the whole house of Israel, shall weep over the burning which Yahweh has [fn]brought about.

Lev 10:7

Lev 10:7“You shall not even go out from the doorway of the tent of meeting, lest you die; for the anointing oil of Yahweh is upon you.” So they did according to the word of Moses.

Lev 10:8

Yahweh^H3068 then spoke^H1696 to Aaron^H175, saying^H559,

Lev 10:9

Lev 10:9“Do not drink wine or strong drink, neither you nor your sons with you, when you come into the tent of meeting, so that you will not die—it is a perpetual statute throughout your generations—

Lev 10:10

Lev 10:10and so as to separate between the holy and the profane, and between the unclean and the clean,

Lev 10:11

Lev 10:11and so as to instruct the sons of Israel in all the statutes which Yahweh has spoken to them through Moses.”

Lev 10:12

Then Moses^H4872 spoke^H1696 to Aaron^H175 and to his remaining^H3498 sons^H1121, Eleazar^H499 and Ithamar^H385, “Take^H3947 the remaining^H3498 grain offering^H4503 from the offerings^H801 to Yahweh^H3068 by^H801 fire^H801 and eat^H398 it unleavened^H4682 beside^H681 the altar^H4196, for it is most^H6944 holy^H6944.

Lev 10:13

Lev 10:13“And you shall eat it in a holy place because it is a statute for you and a statute for your sons taken out of the offerings of Yahweh by fire; for thus I have been commanded.

Lev 10:14

Lev 10:14“The breast of the wave offering, however, and the thigh of the [fn]contribution offering you may eat in a clean place, you and your sons and your daughters with you; for they have been given as a statute for you and a statute for your sons taken out of the sacrifices of the peace offerings of the sons of Israel.

Lev 10:15

Lev 10:15“The thigh contributed by [fn]raising up and the breast offered by waving they shall bring along with the offerings by fire of the portions of fat, to wave as a wave offering before Yahweh; so it shall be a perpetual statute for you and your sons with you, just as Yahweh has commanded.”

Lev 10:16

But Moses^H4872 searched^H1875 carefully^H1875 for the goat^H5795 of the sin^H2403 offering^H2403, and behold^H2009, it had been burned^H8313 up! So he was^H7107 angry^H7107 with Aaron’s^H175 remaining^H3498 sons^H1121 Eleazar^H499 and Ithamar^H385, saying^H559,

Lev 10:17

Lev 10:17“Why did you not eat the sin offering at the holy place? For it is most holy, and [fn]He gave it to you to bear away the guilt of the congregation, to make atonement for them before Yahweh.

Lev 10:18

Lev 10:18“Behold, since its blood had not been brought inside, into the sanctuary, you should certainly have eaten it in the sanctuary, just as I commanded.”

Lev 10:19

Lev 10:19But Aaron spoke to Moses, “Behold, this very day they brought near their sin offering and their burnt offering before Yahweh. Then things like these happened to me. So if I had eaten a sin offering today, would it have been good in the sight of Yahweh?”
