Israel Crosses the Jordan

Then Joshua^H3091 rose^H7925 early^H7925 in the morning^H1242; and he and all^H3605 the sons^H1121 of Israel^H3478 set^H5265 out^H5265 from Shittim^H7851 and came^H935 to the Jordan^H3383, and they lodged^H3885 there^H8033 before^H2962 they crossed^H5674.

Jos 3:2

Jos 3:2Now it happened that at the end of three days the officers went through the midst of the camp;

Jos 3:3

Jos 3:3and they commanded the people, saying, “When you see the ark of the covenant of Yahweh your God with the Levitical priests carrying it, then you shall set out from your place and go after it.

Jos 3:4

Jos 3:4“However, there shall be between you and it a distance of about [fn]2,000 cubits by measure. Do not come near it, that you may know the way by which you shall go, for you have not passed this way before.”

Jos 3:5

Then Joshua^H3091 said^H559 to the people^H5971, “Set^H6942 yourselves apart^H6942 as^H6942 holy^H6942, for tomorrow^H4279 Yahweh^H3068 will do^H6213 wondrous^H6381 deeds^H6381 among^H7130 you.”

Jos 3:6

Jos 3:6And Joshua spoke to the priests, saying, “Carry the ark of the covenant and cross over ahead of the people.” So they carried the ark of the covenant and went ahead of the people.

Jos 3:7

Then Yahweh^H3068 said^H559 to Joshua^H3091, “This^H2088 day^H3117 I will begin^H2490 to magnify^H1431 you in the sight^H5869 of all^H3605 Israel^H3478, that they may know^H3045 that just^H834 as I have been^H1961 with Moses^H4872, I will be with you.

Jos 3:8

Jos 3:8“Moreover, you shall command the priests who are carrying the ark of the covenant, saying, ‘When you come to the edge of the waters of the Jordan, you shall stand still in the Jordan.’”

Jos 3:9

Jos 3:9Then Joshua said to the sons of Israel, “Come near, and hear the words of Yahweh your God.”

Jos 3:10

Jos 3:10And Joshua said, “By this you shall know that the living God is among you, and that He will assuredly dispossess from before you the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Hivite, the Perizzite, the Girgashite, the Amorite, and the Jebusite.

Jos 3:11

Jos 3:11“Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth is crossing over ahead of you into the Jordan.

Jos 3:12

Jos 3:12“So now, take for yourselves twelve men from the tribes of Israel, one man for each tribe.

Jos 3:13

Jos 3:13“And it will be that when the soles of the feet of the priests who carry the ark of Yahweh, the Lord of all the earth, rest in the waters of the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan will be cut off, and the waters which are [fn]flowing down from above [fn]will stand in one heap.”

Jos 3:14

So it happened that when the people^H5971 set^H5265 out^H5265 from their tents^H168 to cross^H5674 the Jordan^H3383 with the priests^H3548 carrying^H5375 the ark^H727 of the covenant^H1285 before^H6440 the people^H5971,

Jos 3:15

Jos 3:15and when those who carried the ark came into the Jordan, and the feet of the priests carrying the ark were dipped in the edge of the water (for the Jordan overflows all its banks all the days of harvest),

Jos 3:16

Jos 3:16the waters which were [fn]flowing down from above stood and rose up in one heap, a great distance away at Adam, the city that is beside Zarethan; and those which were [fn]flowing down toward the sea of the Arabah, the Salt Sea, were completely cut off. So the people crossed opposite Jericho.

Jos 3:17

Jos 3:17And the priests who carried the ark of the covenant of Yahweh stood firm on dry ground in the middle of the Jordan while all Israel crossed on dry ground until all the nation had completed crossing the Jordan.
