Now it happened^H1961 after^H310 many^H7227 days^H3117, after^H310^H834 Yahweh^H3068 had given^H5117 rest^H5117 to Israel^H3478 from all^H3605 their enemies^H340 [fn]on every^H5439 side^H5439, and Joshua^H3091 was^H2204 old^H2204, advanced^H935 in years^H3117,

Jos 23:2

Jos 23:2that Joshua called for all Israel, for their elders and their heads and their judges and their officers, and said to them, “I am old, advanced in years.

Jos 23:3

Jos 23:3“And you have seen all that Yahweh your God has done to all these nations because of you, for Yahweh your God is He who has been fighting for you.

Jos 23:4

Jos 23:4“See, I have allotted to you these nations which remain as an inheritance for your tribes, with all the nations which I have cut off, from the Jordan even to the Great Sea toward the setting of the sun.

Jos 23:5

Jos 23:5“And Yahweh your God, He will thrust them out from before you and dispossess them before you; and you will possess their land, just as Yahweh your God [fn]promised you.

Jos 23:6

Jos 23:6“Be very strong, then, to keep and to do all that is written in the book of the law of Moses, so that you may not turn aside from it to the right hand or to the left,

Jos 23:7

Jos 23:7so that you will not go along with these nations, these which remain among you, and you will not mention the name of their gods, and you will not make anyone swear by them, and you will not serve them, and you will not bow down to them.

Jos 23:8

Jos 23:8“But you are to cling to Yahweh your God, as you have done to this day.

Jos 23:9

Jos 23:9“For Yahweh has dispossessed great and mighty nations from before you; and as for you, no man has stood before you to this day.

Jos 23:10

Jos 23:10“One of your men will pursue one thousand, for Yahweh your God is He who fights for you, just as He [fn]promised you.

Jos 23:11

Jos 23:11“So keep your souls very carefully to love Yahweh your God.

Jos 23:12

Jos 23:12“For if you ever turn back and cling to the rest of these nations, these which remain among you, and intermarry with them, so that you go along with them and they with you,

Jos 23:13

Jos 23:13know with certainty that Yahweh your God will not continue to dispossess these nations from before you; but they will be a snare and a trap to you and a whip on your sides and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from off this good land which Yahweh your God has given you.

Jos 23:14

“Now behold^H2009, today^H3117 I am going^H1980 the way^H1870 of all^H3605 the earth^H776, and you know^H3045 in all^H3605 your hearts^H3824 and in all^H3605 your souls^H5315 that not one^H259 word^H1697 of all^H3605 the good^H2896 words^H1697 which^H834 Yahweh^H3068 your God^H430 spoke^H1696 concerning^H5921 you has failed^H5307; all^H3605 have come^H935 to pass^H935 for you; not one word^H259 of them has failed^H5307.

Jos 23:15

Jos 23:15“And it will be that just as all the good words which Yahweh your God spoke to you have come upon you, so Yahweh will bring upon you all the calamitous words, until He has destroyed you from off this good land which Yahweh your God has given you.

Jos 23:16

Jos 23:16“When you trespass against the covenant of Yahweh your God, which He commanded you, and go and serve other gods and bow down to them, then the anger of Yahweh will burn against you, and you will perish quickly from off the good land which He has given you.”
