Ninevites Turn from Their Evil Ways

Now the word^H1697 of Yahweh^H3068 came^H1961 to Jonah^H3124 the second^H8145 time^H8145, saying^H559,

Jon 3:2“Arise, go to Nineveh, the great city, and call out to it this very call which I am going to speak to you.”

Jon 3:3So Jonah arose and went to Nineveh according to the word of Yahweh. Now Nineveh was [fn]an exceedingly great city, a three days’ walk.

Jon 3:4

Jon 3:4Then Jonah began to go into the city, one day’s walk; and he called out and said, “Yet forty days and Nineveh will be overthrown.”

Jon 3:5

And the [fn]people^H376 of Nineveh^H5210 believed^H539 in God^H430; and they called^H7121 a fast^H6685 and put^H3847 on^H3847 sackcloth^H8242, from the greatest^H1419 to the least^H6996 of them.

Jon 3:6

Jon 3:6Then the word reached the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, laid aside his mantle from him, covered himself with sackcloth, and sat on the [fn]ashes.

Jon 3:7

Jon 3:7And he cried out and said,

“In Nineveh^H5210 by the [fn]decree^H2940 of the king^H4428 and his nobles^H1419[fn]: Do not let man^H120, [fn]animal^H929, herd^H1241, or flock^H6629 taste^H2938 a thing^H3972. Do not let them eat^H7462, and do not let them drink^H8354 water^H4325.

Jon 3:8

“But both man^H120 and [fn]animal^H929 must be covered^H3680 with sackcloth^H8242; and let [fn]men call^H7121 on God^H430 with their strength^H2394 that each^H376 may turn^H7725 from his evil^H7451 way^H1870 and from the violence^H2555 which^H834 is in [fn]his hands^H3709.

Jon 3:9

“Who^H4310 knows^H3045, God^H430 may turn^H7725 and relent^H5162 and turn^H7725 away from His burning^H2740 anger^H639 so that we will not perish^H6.”

Jon 3:10

Then God^H430 saw^H7200 their works^H4639, that they turned^H7725 from their evil^H7451 way^H1870, so God^H430 [fn]relented^H5162 concerning^H5921 the evil^H7451 which^H834 He had spoken^H1696 He would [fn]bring^H6213 upon them. And He did not [fn]bring^H6213 it upon them.
