Jesus Heals a Man Born Blind

As He passed^G3855 by, He saw^G3708 a man^G444 blind^G5185 from birth^G1079.

Jhn 9:2And His disciples asked Him, saying, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he would be born blind?”

Jhn 9:3Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but this was so that the works of God might be manifested in him.

Jhn 9:4

Jhn 9:4“We must work the works of Him who sent Me as long as it is day; night is coming when no one can work.

Jhn 9:5

Jhn 9:5“While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”

Jhn 9:6

Jhn 9:6When He had said this, He spat on the ground, made clay of the saliva, and rubbed the clay on his eyes,

Jhn 9:7

Jhn 9:7and said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which is translated, Sent). So he went away and washed, and came back seeing.

Jhn 9:8

Jhn 9:8Therefore the neighbors, and those who previously saw him as a beggar, were saying, “Is not this the one who used to sit and beg?”

Jhn 9:9

Jhn 9:9Others were saying, “This is he,” still others were saying, “No, but he is like him.” [fn]He kept saying, “I am the one.”

Jhn 9:10

Jhn 9:10So they were saying to him, “How then were your eyes opened?”

Jhn 9:11

Jhn 9:11He answered, “The man who is called Jesus made clay, and rubbed my eyes, and said to me, ‘Go to Siloam and wash’; so when I went away and washed, I received sight.”

Jhn 9:12

Jhn 9:12And they said to him, “Where is He?” He *said, “I do not know.”

Controversy over the Man Born Blind

Jhn 9:13

They *brought^G71 to the Pharisees^G5330 the man who was formerly^G4218 blind^G5185.

Jhn 9:14

Jhn 9:14Now it was a Sabbath on the day when Jesus made the clay and opened his eyes.

Jhn 9:15

Jhn 9:15So the Pharisees also were asking him again how he received his sight. And he said to them, “He applied clay to my eyes, and I washed, and I see.”

Jhn 9:16

Jhn 9:16So then some of the Pharisees were saying, “This man is not from God, because He does not keep the Sabbath.” But others were saying, “How can a sinful man do such [fn]signs?” And there was a division among them.

Jhn 9:17

Jhn 9:17Therefore, they *said to the blind man again, “What do you say about Him, since He opened your eyes?” And he said, “He is a prophet.”

Jhn 9:18

Then^G3767, the Jews^G2453 did not believe^G4100 it of him that he was^G1510 blind^G5185 and had received^G308 sight^G308, until^G2193 they called^G5455 the parents^G1118 of the very^G846 one^G846 who had received^G308 his sight^G308,

Jhn 9:19

Jhn 9:19and questioned them, saying, “Is this your son, who you say was born blind? Then how does he now see?”

Jhn 9:20

Jhn 9:20So his parents answered and said, “We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind;

Jhn 9:21

Jhn 9:21but how he now sees, we do not know; or who opened his eyes, we do not know. Ask him; he is of age, he will speak for himself.”

Jhn 9:22

Jhn 9:22His parents said this because they were afraid of the Jews; for the Jews had already agreed that if anyone confessed Him to be [fn]Christ, he was to be put out of the synagogue.

Jhn 9:23

Jhn 9:23For this reason his parents said, “He is of age; ask him.”

Jhn 9:24

Therefore^G3767, a second^G1208 time^G1208 they called^G5455 the man^G444 who^G3739 had been^G1510 blind^G5185, and said^G3004 to him, “Give^G1325 glory^G1391 to God^G2316; we know^G6063 that this^G3778 man^G444 is a sinner^G268.”

Jhn 9:25

Jhn 9:25He then answered, “Whether He is a sinner, I do not know; one thing I do know, that though I was blind, now I see.”

Jhn 9:26

Jhn 9:26So they said to him, “What did He do to you? How did He open your eyes?”

Jhn 9:27

Jhn 9:27He answered them, “I told you already and you did not listen. Why do you want to listen again? Do you want to become His disciples too?”

Jhn 9:28

Jhn 9:28And they reviled him and said, “You are His disciple, but we are disciples of Moses.

Jhn 9:29

Jhn 9:29“We know that God has spoken to Moses, but as for this man, we do not know where He is from.”

Jhn 9:30

Jhn 9:30The man answered and said to them, “Well, here is a marvelous thing, that you do not know where He is from, and He opened my eyes.

Jhn 9:31

Jhn 9:31“We know that God does not listen to sinners; but if anyone is God-fearing and does His will, He listens to him.

Jhn 9:32

Jhn 9:32“[fn]Since the beginning of time it has never been heard that anyone opened the eyes of a person born blind.

Jhn 9:33

Jhn 9:33“If this man were not from God, He could do nothing.”

Jhn 9:34

Jhn 9:34They answered and said to him, “You were born entirely in sins, and are you teaching us?” So they put him out.

Jesus Affirms His Deity

Jhn 9:35

Jesus^G2424 heard^G191 that they had put^G1544 him out^G1544, and after finding^G2147 him, He said^G3004, “Do you believe^G4100 in the Son^G5207 of Man^G444?”
