Jesus Goes to Galilee

Therefore^G3767 when^G5613 Jesus^G2962 knew^G1097 that the Pharisees^G5330 had heard^G191 that Jesus^G2424 was making^G4160 and baptizing^G907 more^G4183 disciples^G3101 than^G2228 John^G2491

Jhn 4:2

Jhn 4:2(although Jesus Himself was not baptizing, but His disciples were),

Jhn 4:3

Jhn 4:3He left Judea and went away again into Galilee.

Jhn 4:4

Jhn 4:4And He had to pass through Samaria.

Jhn 4:5

Jhn 4:5So He *came to a city of Samaria called Sychar, near the field that Jacob gave to his son Joseph;

Jhn 4:6

Jhn 4:6and Jacob’s well was there. So Jesus, being wearied from His journey, was sitting thus by the well. It was about [fn]the sixth hour.

Jesus and the Samaritan Woman

Jhn 4:7

A woman^G1135 of Samaria^G4540 *came^G2064 to draw^G501 water^G5204. Jesus^G2424 *said^G3004 to her, “Give^G1325 Me a drink^G4095.”

Jhn 4:8

Jhn 4:8For His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.

Jhn 4:9

Jhn 4:9Therefore the Samaritan woman *said to Him, “How do You, being a Jew, ask for a drink from me, being a Samaritan woman?” (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.)

Jhn 4:10

Jhn 4:10Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.”

Jhn 4:11

Jhn 4:11She *said to Him, “[fn]Sir, You have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where then do You get that living water?

Jhn 4:12

Jhn 4:12“Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us this well, and drank of it himself and his sons and his cattle?”

Jhn 4:13

Jhn 4:13Jesus answered and said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again;

Jhn 4:14

Jhn 4:14but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never thirst—ever; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.”

Jhn 4:15

The woman^G1135 *said^G3004 to Him, “[fn]Sir^G2962, give^G1325 me this^G3778 water^G5204, so^G2443 I will not be thirsty^G1372 nor^G3366 come^G1330 back here^G1759 to draw^G501.”

Jhn 4:16

Jhn 4:16He *said to her, “Go, call your husband and come back here.”

Jhn 4:17

Jhn 4:17The woman answered and said, “I have no husband.” Jesus *said to her, “You have correctly said, ‘I have no husband’;

Jhn 4:18

Jhn 4:18for you had five husbands, and the one you now have is not your husband; this you have said truly.”

Jhn 4:19

Jhn 4:19The woman *said to Him, “[fn]Sir, I see that You are a prophet.

Jhn 4:20

Jhn 4:20“Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and you people say that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.”

Jhn 4:21

Jhn 4:21Jesus *said to her, “Woman, believe Me, an hour is coming when neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father.

Jhn 4:22

Jhn 4:22“You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews.

Jhn 4:23

Jhn 4:23“But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers.

Jhn 4:24

Jhn 4:24“God is [fn]spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

Jhn 4:25

Jhn 4:25The woman *said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming (He who is called [fn]Christ); when He comes, He will declare all things to us.”

Jhn 4:26

Jhn 4:26Jesus *said to her, “I who speak to you am He.”

Jhn 4:27

And at this^G3778 point^G1909 His disciples^G3101 came^G2064, and they were^G2296 marveling^G2296 that He was speaking^G2980 with a woman^G1135, yet^G3305 no^G3762 one^G3762 said^G3004, “What^G5101 do You seek^G2212?” or^G2228, “Why^G5101 are You speaking^G2980 with her?”

Jhn 4:28

Jhn 4:28So the woman left her water jar, and went into the city and *said to the men,

Jhn 4:29

Jhn 4:29“Come, see a man who told me all the things that I have done; is this not the [fn]Christ?”

Jhn 4:30

Jhn 4:30They went out of the city, and were coming to Him.

Jhn 4:31

Meanwhile^G3342 the disciples^G3101 were urging^G2065 Him, saying^G3004, “Rabbi^G4461, eat^G2068.”

Jhn 4:32

Jhn 4:32But He said to them, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.”

Jhn 4:33

Jhn 4:33So the disciples were saying to one another, “Has anyone brought Him anything to eat?”

Jhn 4:34

Jhn 4:34Jesus *said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to finish His work.

Jhn 4:35

Jhn 4:35“Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest.

Jhn 4:36

Jhn 4:36“Even now he who reaps is receiving wages and is gathering fruit for life eternal; so that he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together.

Jhn 4:37

Jhn 4:37“For in this case the saying is true, ‘One sows and another reaps.’

Jhn 4:38

Jhn 4:38“I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored and you have entered into their labor.”

Many Samaritans Believe

Jhn 4:39

From that city^G4172 many^G4183 of the Samaritans^G4541 believed^G4100 in Him because^G1223 of the word^G3056 of the woman^G1135 who bore witness^G3140, “He told^G3004 me all^G3956 the things^G3956 that I have done^G4160.”

Jhn 4:40

Jhn 4:40So when the Samaritans came to Jesus, they were asking Him to stay with them; and He stayed there two days.

Jhn 4:41

Jhn 4:41And many more believed because of His word;

Jhn 4:42

Jhn 4:42and they were saying to the woman, “It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves and know that this One is truly the Savior of the world.”

Jhn 4:43

And after^G3326 the two^G1417 days^G2250 He went^G1831 from^G1564 there^G1564 into Galilee^G1056.

Jhn 4:44

Jhn 4:44For Jesus Himself bore witness that a prophet has no honor in his own country.

Jhn 4:45

Jhn 4:45So when He came to Galilee, the Galileans received Him, having seen all the things that He did in Jerusalem at the feast; for they themselves also went to the feast.

Jesus Heals a Royal Official’s Son

Jhn 4:46

Then^G3767 He came^G2064 again^G3825 to Cana^G2580 of Galilee^G1056 where^G3699 He had made^G4160 the water^G5204 wine^G3631. And there was a royal^G937 official^G937 whose^G3739 son^G5207 was sick^G770 at Capernaum^G2584.

Jhn 4:47

Jhn 4:47When he heard that Jesus had come out of Judea into Galilee, he went to Him and was asking Him to come down and heal his son; for he was about to die.

Jhn 4:48

Jhn 4:48So Jesus said to him, “Unless you people see [fn]signs and wonders, you will never believe.”

Jhn 4:49

Jhn 4:49The royal official *said to Him, “[fn]Sir, come down before my child dies.”

Jhn 4:50

Jhn 4:50Jesus *said to him, “Go; your son lives.” The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and started on his way.

Jhn 4:51

Jhn 4:51And while he was still going down, his slaves met him, saying that his [fn]son was alive.

Jhn 4:52

Jhn 4:52So he inquired of them the hour when he began to get better. Then they said to him, “Yesterday at the [fn]seventh hour the fever left him.”

Jhn 4:53

Jhn 4:53So the father knew that it was at that hour in which Jesus said to him, “Your son lives”; and he himself believed and his whole household.

Jhn 4:54

Jhn 4:54This is again a second [fn]sign that Jesus did when He had come out of Judea into Galilee.
