Jesus’ Warning

“These^G3778 things^G3778 I have spoken^G2980 to you so^G2443 that you may be kept^G3361 from stumbling^G4624.

Jhn 16:2“They will put you out of the synagogue, but an hour is coming for everyone who kills you to think that he is offering service to God.

Jhn 16:3

Jhn 16:3“These things they will do because they did not know the Father or Me.

Jhn 16:4

Jhn 16:4“But these things I have spoken to you, so that when their hour comes, you [fn]may remember that I told you of them. These things I did not say to you at the beginning, because I was with you.

The Spirit Is Promised Again

Jhn 16:5

“But now^G3568 I am going^G5217 to Him who sent^G3992 Me; and none^G3762 of you asks^G2065 Me, ‘Where^G4226 are You going^G5217?’

Jhn 16:6

Jhn 16:6“But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart.

Jhn 16:7

Jhn 16:7“But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the [fn]Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.

Jhn 16:8

Jhn 16:8“And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment;

Jhn 16:9

Jhn 16:9concerning sin, because they do not believe in Me;

Jhn 16:10

Jhn 16:10and concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father and you no longer see Me;

Jhn 16:11

Jhn 16:11and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.

Jhn 16:12

“I still have^G2192 many^G4183 more^G2089 things^G4183 to say^G3004 to you, but you cannot^G1410^G3756 bear^G941 them now^G737.

Jhn 16:13

Jhn 16:13“But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak from Himself, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.

Jhn 16:14

Jhn 16:14“He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you.

Jhn 16:15

Jhn 16:15“All things that the Father has are Mine; therefore I said that He takes of Mine and will disclose it to you.

Sorrow Turned to Joy

Jhn 16:16

“A little^G3398 while^G3398, and you will no^G3765 longer^G3765 see^G3708 Me; and again^G3825 a little^G3398 while^G3398, and you will see^G3708 Me.”

Jhn 16:17

Jhn 16:17Some of His disciples then said to one another, “What is this He is telling us, ‘A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me’; and, ‘because I go to the Father’?”

Jhn 16:18

Jhn 16:18So they were saying, “What is this that He says, ‘A little while’? We do not know what He is talking about.”

Jhn 16:19

Jhn 16:19Jesus knew that they were wishing to question Him, and He said to them, “Are you deliberating together about this, that I said, ‘A little while, and you will not see Me, and again a little while, and you will see Me’?

Jhn 16:20

Jhn 16:20“Truly, truly, I say to you, that you will cry and lament, but the world will rejoice; you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will be turned into joy.

Jhn 16:21

Jhn 16:21“Whenever a woman is in labor she has sorrow, because her hour has come; but when she gives birth to the child, she no longer remembers the suffering because of the joy that a [fn]child has been born into the world.

Jhn 16:22

Jhn 16:22“Therefore you too have sorrow now; but I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you.

I Have Overcome the World

Jhn 16:23

Jhn 16:23“And on that day you will not question Me about anything. Truly, truly, I say to you, if you ask the Father for anything in My name, He will give it to you.

Jhn 16:24

Jhn 16:24“Until now you have asked for nothing in My name; ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be made complete.

Jhn 16:25

“These^G3778 things^G3778 I have spoken^G2980 to you in figures^G3942 of speech^G3942; an hour^G5610 is coming^G2064 when^G3753 I will no^G3765 longer^G3765 speak^G2980 to you in figures^G3942 of speech^G3942, but will tell^G518 you openly^G3954 of the Father^G3962.

Jhn 16:26

Jhn 16:26“On that day you will ask in My name, and I do not say to you that I will request of the Father on your behalf;

Jhn 16:27

Jhn 16:27for the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me and have believed that I came forth from the Father.

Jhn 16:28

Jhn 16:28“I came forth from the Father and have come into the world; I am leaving the world again and going to the Father.”

Jhn 16:29

His disciples^G3101 *said^G3004, “Behold^G2396, now^G3568 You are speaking^G2980 openly^G3954 and are not [fn]using^G3004 a figure^G3942 of speech^G3942.

Jhn 16:30

Jhn 16:30“Now we know that You know all things, and have no need for anyone to question You; by this we believe that You came from God.”

Jhn 16:31

Jhn 16:31Jesus answered them, “Do you now believe?

Jhn 16:32

Jhn 16:32“Behold, an hour is coming, and has already come, for you to be scattered, each to his own home, and to leave Me alone; and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me.

Jhn 16:33

Jhn 16:33“These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.”
