The Lord’s Supper

Now^G1161 before^G4253 the Feast^G1859 of the Passover^G3957, Jesus^G2424 knowing^G6063 that His hour^G5610 had come^G2064 that He would depart^G3327 out of this^G3778 world^G2889 to the Father^G3962, having loved^G25 His own^G2398 who^G3588 were in the world^G2889, He loved^G25 them [fn]to the end^G5056.

Jhn 13:2

Jhn 13:2And during supper, the devil having already put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, to betray Him,

Jhn 13:3

Jhn 13:3Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come forth from God and was going back to God,

Jhn 13:4

Jhn 13:4*got up from supper, and *laid aside His garments; and taking a towel, He tied it around Himself.

Jesus Washes the Disciples’ Feet

Jhn 13:5

Jhn 13:5Then He *poured water into the washbasin, and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel which He had tied around Himself.

Jhn 13:6

Jhn 13:6So He *came to Simon Peter. He *said to Him, “Lord, are You going to wash my feet?”

Jhn 13:7

Jhn 13:7Jesus answered and said to him, “What I am doing you do not realize now, but you will understand afterwards.”

Jhn 13:8

Jhn 13:8Peter *said to Him, “You will never wash my feet—ever!” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me.”

Jhn 13:9

Jhn 13:9Simon Peter *said to Him, “Lord, not only my feet, but also my hands and my head.”

Jhn 13:10

Jhn 13:10Jesus *said to him, “He who has bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean; and you are clean, but not all of you.”

Jhn 13:11

Jhn 13:11For He knew the one who was betraying Him; for this reason He said, “Not all of you are clean.”

Jhn 13:12

So^G3767 when^G3753 He had washed^G3538 their feet^G4228, and taken^G2983 His garments^G2440 and reclined^G377 at the table again^G3825, He said^G3004 to them, “Do you know^G1097 what^G5101 I have done^G4160 to you?

Jhn 13:13

Jhn 13:13“You call Me Teacher and Lord; and [fn]you are right, for so I am.

Jhn 13:14

Jhn 13:14“If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.

Jhn 13:15

Jhn 13:15“For I gave you an example that you also should do as I did to you.

Jhn 13:16

Jhn 13:16“Truly, truly, I say to you, a slave is not greater than his master, nor is one who is sent greater than the one who sent him.

Jhn 13:17

Jhn 13:17“If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them.

Jhn 13:18

Jhn 13:18“I do not speak about all of you. I know the ones I have chosen; but that the Scripture may be fulfilled, ‘HE WHO EATS MY BREAD HAS LIFTED UP HIS HEEL AGAINST ME.’

Jhn 13:19

Jhn 13:19“From now on I am telling you before it occurs, so that when it does occur, you may believe that I am He.

Jhn 13:20

Jhn 13:20“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who receives anyone I send receives Me; and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me.”

Jesus Predicts His Betrayal

Jhn 13:21

When Jesus^G2424 had said^G3004 these^G3778 things^G3778, He became troubled^G5015 in spirit^G4151, and bore^G3140 witness^G3140 and said^G3004, “Truly^G281, truly^G281, I say^G3004 to you, that one^G1520 of you will [fn]betray^G3860 Me.”

Jhn 13:22

Jhn 13:22The disciples began looking at one another, perplexed about whom He *spoke.

Jhn 13:23

Jhn 13:23There was reclining on Jesus’ bosom one of His disciples, whom Jesus loved.

Jhn 13:24

Jhn 13:24So Simon Peter *gestured to him to inquire, “Who is the one of whom He is speaking?”

Jhn 13:25

Jhn 13:25He, leaning back thus on Jesus’ bosom, *said to Him, “Lord, who is it?”

Jhn 13:26

Jhn 13:26Jesus *answered, “He is the one for whom I shall dip the piece of bread and give it to him.” So when He had dipped the piece of bread, He *took and *gave it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot.

Jhn 13:27

Jhn 13:27And after the piece of bread, Satan then entered into him. Therefore Jesus *said to him, “What you do, do quickly.”

Jhn 13:28

Jhn 13:28Now no one of those reclining at the table knew for what purpose He had said this to him.

Jhn 13:29

Jhn 13:29For some were thinking, because Judas had the money box, that Jesus was saying to him, “Buy the things we have need of for the feast”; or else, that he should give something to the poor.

Jhn 13:30

Jhn 13:30So after receiving the piece of bread, he went out immediately. And it was night.

Jhn 13:31

Therefore^G3767 when^G3753 he had gone^G1831 out^G1831, Jesus^G2424 *said^G3004, “Now^G3568 [fn]is the Son^G5207 of Man^G444 glorified^G1392, and God^G2316 [fn]is glorified^G1392 in Him;

Jhn 13:32

Jhn 13:32[fn]if God is glorified in Him, God will also glorify Him in Himself, and will glorify Him immediately.

Jhn 13:33

Jhn 13:33“Little children, I am with you a little while longer. You will seek Me; and as I said to the Jews, now I also say to you, ‘Where I am going, you cannot come.’

Jhn 13:34

Jhn 13:34“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another.

Jhn 13:35

Jhn 13:35“By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Jhn 13:36

Simon^G4613 Peter^G4074 *said^G3004 to Him, “Lord^G2962, where^G4226 are You going^G5217?” Jesus^G2424 answered^G611, “Where^G3699 I go^G5217, you cannot^G1410^G3756 follow^G190 Me now^G3568; but you will follow^G190 later^G5305.”
