The Good and the Rotten Figs

After^H310 Nebuchadnezzar^H5019 king^H4428 of Babylon^H894 had taken^H1540 away^H1540 into^H1540 exile^H1540 Jeconiah^H3204 the son^H1121 of Jehoiakim^H3079, king^H4428 of Judah^H3063, and the officials^H8269 of Judah^H3063 with the craftsmen^H2796 and smiths^H4525 from Jerusalem^H3389, and had brought^H935 them to Babylon^H894, Yahweh^H3068 showed^H7200 me: behold^H2009, two^H8147 baskets^H1731 of figs^H8384 set^H3259 before^H6440 the temple^H1964 of Yahweh^H3068!

Jer 24:2

Jer 24:2One basket had very good figs, like first-ripe figs, and the other basket had very rotten figs which could not be eaten due to rottenness.

Jer 24:3

Jer 24:3Then Yahweh said to me, “What do you see, Jeremiah?” And I said, “Figs, the good figs, very good; and the rotten figs, very rotten, which cannot be eaten due to rottenness.”

Jer 24:4

Then the word^H1697 of Yahweh^H3068 came^H1961 to me, saying^H559,

Jer 24:5

Jer 24:5“Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, ‘Like these good figs, so I will recognize as good the exiles of Judah, whom I have sent out of this place into the land of the Chaldeans.

Jer 24:6

Jer 24:6‘For I will set My eyes on them for good, and I will return them to this land; and I will build them up and not pull them down, and I will plant them and not uproot them.

Jer 24:7

Jer 24:7‘I will give them a heart to know Me, for I am Yahweh; and they will be My people, and I will be their God, for they will return to Me with their whole heart.

Jer 24:8

‘But like the rotten^H7451 figs^H8384 which^H834 cannot^H3808 be eaten^H398 due^H4480 to rottenness^H7455—indeed^H3588, thus^H3541 says^H559 Yahweh^H3068—so^H3651 I will give^H5414 over Zedekiah^H6667 king^H4428 of Judah^H3063 and his officials^H8269 and the remnant^H7611 of Jerusalem^H3389 who remain^H7604 in this^H2088 land^H776 and the ones who inhabit^H3427 the land^H776 of Egypt^H4714.

Jer 24:9

Jer 24:9‘I will give them over to be a terror and an evil for all the kingdoms of the earth, as a reproach and a proverb, a byword and a curse in all places where I will banish them.

Jer 24:10

Jer 24:10‘I will send the sword, the famine, and the pestilence upon them until they come to an end from being upon the land which I gave to them and their fathers.’”
