The Believer’s Rest

Therefore^G3767, let us fear^G5399, lest^G3379, while a promise^G1860 remains^G2641 of entering^G1525 His rest^G2663, any^G5100 one^G5100 of you may seem^G1380 to have fallen^G5302 short^G5302 of it.

Heb 4:2

Heb 4:2For indeed we have had good news proclaimed to us, just as they also; but the word [fn]that was heard did not profit those [fn]who were not united with faith among those who heard.

Heb 4:3

Heb 4:3For we who have believed enter that rest, just as He has said,

“AS I SWORE^G3660 IN MY WRATH^G3709,

THEY SHALL NOT ENTER^G1525 MY REST^G2663,”

although^G2543 His works^G2041 were finished^G1096 from the foundation^G2602 of the world^G2889.

Heb 4:4

Heb 4:4For He has spoken somewhere in this way concerning the seventh day: “AND GOD RESTED ON THE SEVENTH DAY FROM ALL HIS WORKS”;

Heb 4:5

Heb 4:5and again in this passage, “THEY SHALL NOT ENTER MY REST.”

Heb 4:6

Heb 4:6Therefore, since it remains for some to enter it, and those who formerly had good news proclaimed to them failed to enter because of disobedience,

Heb 4:7

Heb 4:7He again determines a certain day, “TODAY,” saying [fn]through David after so long a time just as has been said before,

“TODAY^G4594 IF^G1437 YOU HEAR^G191 HIS VOICE^G5456,

DO NOT HARDEN^G4645 YOUR HEARTS^G2588.”

Heb 4:8

For if^G1437 [fn]Joshua^G2424 had given^G2664 them rest^G2664, He would not have spoken^G2980 of another^G243 day^G2250 after^G3326 that.

Heb 4:9

Heb 4:9So there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God.

Heb 4:10

Heb 4:10For the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from His.

Heb 4:11

Heb 4:11Therefore let us be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall into the same example of disobedience.

Heb 4:12

Heb 4:12For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

Heb 4:13

Heb 4:13And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are [fn]uncovered and laid bare to the eyes of Him to whom we have an account to give.

Jesus Our Great High Priest

Heb 4:14

Therefore^G3767, since we have^G2192 a great^G3173 high^G749 priest^G749 who^G5101 has passed^G1330 through^G1330 the heavens^G3772, Jesus^G2424 the Son^G5207 of God^G2316, let us take^G2902 hold^G2902 of our confession^G3671.

Heb 4:15

Heb 4:15For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things like we are, yet without sin.
