Jacob Moves to Egypt

(Exo 6:14–25 )

So Israel^H3478 set^H5265 out^H5265 with all^H3605 that he had and came^H935 to Beersheba^H884 and offered^H2076 sacrifices^H2077 to the God^H430 of his father^H1 Isaac^H3327.

Gen 46:2

Gen 46:2And God spoke to Israel [fn]in visions of the night and said, “Jacob, Jacob.” And he said, “Here I am.”

Gen 46:3

Gen 46:3And He said, “I am God, the God of your father; do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will make you a great nation there.

Gen 46:4

Gen 46:4“I Myself will go down with you to Egypt, and I Myself will also bring you up again; and Joseph will [fn]close your eyes with his hand.”

Gen 46:5

Then Jacob^H3290 arose^H6965 from^H4480 Beersheba^H884; and the sons^H1121 of Israel^H3478 carried^H5375 their father^H1 Jacob^H3290 and their little^H2945 ones^H2945 and their wives^H802 in the wagons^H5699 which^H834 Pharaoh^H6547 had sent^H7971 to carry^H5375 him.

Gen 46:6

Gen 46:6And they took their livestock and their possessions, which they had accumulated in the land of Canaan, and they came to Egypt, Jacob and all his seed with him:

Gen 46:7

Gen 46:7his sons and his grandsons with him, his daughters and his granddaughters, and all his seed he brought with him to Egypt.

Gen 46:8

Now these^H428 are the names^H8034 of the sons^H1121 of Israel^H3478—of Jacob^H3290 and his sons^H1121—who were coming^H935 to Egypt^H4714: Reuben^H7205, Jacob’s^H3290 firstborn^H1060.

Gen 46:9

Gen 46:9The sons of Reuben: Hanoch and Pallu and Hezron and Carmi.

Gen 46:10

Gen 46:10The sons of Simeon: [fn]Jemuel and Jamin and Ohad and [fn]Jachin and [fn]Zohar and Shaul the son of a Canaanite woman.

Gen 46:11

Gen 46:11The sons of Levi: [fn]Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

Gen 46:12

Gen 46:12The sons of Judah: Er and Onan and Shelah and Perez and Zerah (but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan). And the sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul.

Gen 46:13

Gen 46:13The sons of Issachar: Tola and [fn]Puvvah and [fn]Iob and Shimron.

Gen 46:14

Gen 46:14The sons of Zebulun: Sered and Elon and Jahleel.

Gen 46:15

Gen 46:15These are the sons of Leah, whom she bore to Jacob in Paddan-aram, with his daughter Dinah; [fn]all his sons and his daughters numbered thirty-three.

Gen 46:16

Gen 46:17

Gen 46:17The sons of Asher: Imnah and Ishvah and Ishvi and Beriah and their sister Serah. And the sons of Beriah: Heber and Malchiel.

Gen 46:18

Gen 46:18These are the sons of Zilpah, whom Laban gave to his daughter Leah; and she bore to Jacob these sixteen persons.

Gen 46:19

The sons^H1121 of Jacob’s^H3290 wife^H802 Rachel^H7354: Joseph^H3130 and Benjamin^H1144.

Gen 46:20

Gen 46:20Now to Joseph in the land of Egypt were born Manasseh and Ephraim, whom Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera, priest of On, bore to him.

Gen 46:21

Gen 46:21The sons of Benjamin: Bela and Becher and Ashbel, Gera and Naaman, [fn]Ehi and Rosh, [fn]Muppim and [fn]Huppim and Ard.

Gen 46:22

Gen 46:22These are the sons of Rachel, who were born to Jacob; there were fourteen persons in all.

Gen 46:24

Gen 46:24The sons of Naphtali: [fn]Jahzeel and Guni and Jezer and [fn]Shillem.

Gen 46:25

These^H428 are the sons^H1121 of Bilhah^H1090, whom^H834 Laban^H3837 gave^H5414 to his daughter^H1323 Rachel^H7354, and she bore^H3205 these^H428 to Jacob^H3290; there were seven^H7651 persons^H5315 in all^H3605.

Gen 46:26

Gen 46:26All the persons belonging to Jacob, who came to Egypt, who came out of his loins, excluding the wives of Jacob’s sons, were sixty-six persons in all,

Gen 46:27

Gen 46:27and the sons of Joseph, who were born to him in Egypt were [fn]two; all the persons of the house of Jacob, who came to Egypt, were seventy.

Gen 46:28

Now he sent^H7971 Judah^H3063 before^H6440 him to Joseph^H3130, to point^H3384 out the way before^H6440 him to Goshen^H1657; and they came^H935 into the land^H776 of Goshen^H1657.

Gen 46:29

Gen 46:29And Joseph harnessed his chariot and went up to Goshen to meet his father Israel; as soon as he appeared [fn]before him, he fell on his neck and wept on his neck a long time.

Gen 46:30

Gen 46:30Then Israel said to Joseph, “Now I can die, since I have seen your face, that you are still alive.”

Gen 46:31

Gen 46:31And Joseph said to his brothers and to his father’s household, “I will go up and tell Pharaoh and say to him, ‘My brothers and my father’s household, who were in the land of Canaan, have come to me;

Gen 46:32

Gen 46:32and the men are shepherds, for they have been [fn]keepers of livestock; and they have brought their flocks and their herds and all that they have.’

Gen 46:33

Gen 46:33“And it will be when Pharaoh calls you and says, ‘What is your occupation?’

Gen 46:34

Gen 46:34then you shall say, ‘Your servants have been [fn]keepers of livestock from our youth and until now, both we and our fathers,’ that you may [fn]live in the land of Goshen; for every shepherd is an abomination to the Egyptians.”
