Yahweh Cuts a Covenant with Abram

(Heb 11:8–10 )

After^H310 these^H428 things^H1697 the word^H1697 of Yahweh^H3068 came^H1961 to Abram^H87 in a vision^H4236, saying^H559,

“Do not fear^H3372, Abram^H87,

I am a shield^H4043 to you;

[fn]Your reward^H7939 shall be^H7235 very^H3966 great^H7235.”

Gen 15:2

And Abram^H87 said^H559, “O Lord^H136 Yahweh^H3068, what^H4100 will You give^H5414 me, as I go on^H1980 being childless^H6185, and the [fn]heir^H1121^H4943 of my house^H1004 is Eliezer^H461 of Damascus^H1834?”

Gen 15:3

Gen 15:3And Abram said, “[fn]Since You have given no seed to me, behold, [fn]one born in my house is my heir.”

Gen 15:4

Gen 15:4Then behold, the word of Yahweh came to him, saying, “This one will not be your heir; but one who will come forth from your own [fn]body, he shall be your heir.”

Gen 15:5

Gen 15:5And He brought him outside and said, “Now look toward the heavens, and number the stars, if you are able to number them.” And He said to him, “So shall your seed be.”

Gen 15:6

Gen 15:6Then he believed in Yahweh; and He counted it to him as righteousness.

Gen 15:7

Gen 15:7And He said to him, “I am Yahweh who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans, to give you this land to [fn]possess it.”

Gen 15:8

Gen 15:8And he said, “O Lord Yahweh, how may I know that I will [fn]possess it?”

Gen 15:9

Gen 15:9So He said to him, “[fn]Bring Me a three year old heifer, and a three year old female goat, and a three year old ram, and a turtledove, and a young pigeon.”

Gen 15:10

Gen 15:10Then he [fn]brought all these to Him and split them into parts [fn]down the middle and laid each part opposite the other; but he did not split apart the birds.

Gen 15:11

Gen 15:11Then the birds of prey came down upon the carcasses, and Abram drove them away.

Gen 15:12

Now it happened that when the sun^H8121 was going^H935 down, a deep^H8639 sleep^H8639 fell^H5307 upon Abram^H87; and behold^H2009, [fn]terror^H367 and great^H1419 darkness^H2825 fell^H5307 upon him.

Gen 15:13

Gen 15:13Then God said to Abram, “Know for certain that your seed will be sojourners in a land that is not theirs, [fn]and they will be enslaved and mistreated four hundred years.

Gen 15:14

Gen 15:14“But I will also judge the nation to whom they are enslaved, and afterward they will come out with [fn]many possessions.

Gen 15:15

Gen 15:15“As for you, you shall go to your fathers in peace; you will be buried at a good old age.

Gen 15:16

Gen 15:16“Then in the fourth generation they will return here, for the iniquity of the Amorite is not yet complete.”

Gen 15:17

Now it happened^H1961 that the sun^H8121 had set^H935, and it was very^H5939 dark^H5939, and behold^H2009, there appeared a smoking^H6227 oven^H8574 and a flaming^H784 torch^H3940 which^H834 passed^H5674 between^H996 these^H428 pieces^H1506.
