Kings of the Valley Take Lot

And it happened^H1961 in the days^H3117 of Amraphel^H569 king^H4428 of Shinar^H8152, Arioch^H746 king^H4428 of Ellasar^H495, Chedorlaomer^H3540 king^H4428 of Elam^H5867, and Tidal^H8413 king^H4428 of [fn]Goiim^H1471,

Gen 14:2

Gen 14:2that they made war with Bera king of Sodom, and with Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, and Shemeber king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar).

Gen 14:3

Gen 14:3All these [fn]came as allies to the valley of Siddim (that is, the Salt Sea).

Gen 14:4

Gen 14:4Now for twelve years they had served Chedorlaomer, but the thirteenth year they rebelled.

Gen 14:5

Gen 14:5So in the fourteenth year Chedorlaomer and the kings that were with him, came and struck the Rephaim in Ashteroth-karnaim and the Zuzim in Ham and the Emim in [fn]Shaveh-kiriathaim,

Gen 14:6

Gen 14:6and the Horites in their Mount Seir, as far as El-paran, which is by the wilderness.

Gen 14:7

Gen 14:7Then they turned back and came to En-mishpat (that is, Kadesh). And they struck all the country of the Amalekites, and also the Amorites, who were living in Hazazon-tamar.

Gen 14:8

Gen 14:8And the king of Sodom and the king of Gomorrah and the king of Admah and the king of Zeboiim and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar) came out; and they arranged themselves for battle against them in the valley of Siddim,

Gen 14:9

Gen 14:9against Chedorlaomer king of Elam and Tidal king of [fn]Goiim and Amraphel king of Shinar and Arioch king of Ellasar, four kings against five—

Gen 14:10

Gen 14:10now the valley of Siddim was full of tar pits—and the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, and they fell [fn]into them; but those who remained behind fled to the hill country.

Gen 14:11

Gen 14:11Then they took all the possessions of Sodom and Gomorrah and all their food supply and departed.

Gen 14:12

Gen 14:12They also took Lot, Abram’s nephew, and his possessions and departed; now he was living in Sodom.

Gen 14:13

Then [fn]a fugitive^H6412 came^H935 and told^H5046 Abram^H87 the Hebrew^H5680. Now he was dwelling^H7931 by the [fn]oaks^H436 of Mamre^H4471 the Amorite^H567, brother^H251 of Eshcol^H812 and brother^H251 of Aner^H6063, and these^H1992 were [fn]in a covenant^H1167^H1285 with Abram^H87.

Gen 14:14

Gen 14:14So Abram heard that his [fn]relative had been taken captive, and he [fn]led out his trained men, born in his house, 318 in number, and went in pursuit as far as Dan.

Gen 14:15

Gen 14:15And he divided [fn]his men against them by night, he and his servants, and struck them and pursued them as far as Hobah, which is [fn]north of Damascus.

Gen 14:16

Gen 14:16And he brought back all the possessions, and he also brought back his [fn]relative Lot with his possessions and also the women and the people.

Melchizedek Blesses Abram

Gen 14:17

Then after^H310 he came^H7725 back from striking down^H5221 Chedorlaomer^H3540 and the kings^H4428 who^H834 were with him, the king^H4428 of Sodom^H5467 went^H3318 out^H3318 to meet^H7122 him at the valley^H6010 of Shaveh^H7740 (that is, the King’s^H4428 Valley^H6010).

Gen 14:18

Gen 14:18And Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; now he was a priest of [fn]God Most High.

Gen 14:19

Gen 14:19Then he blessed him and said,

“Blessed^H1288 be Abram^H87 of [fn]God^H430 Most^H5945 High^H5945,

[fn]Possessor^H7069 of heaven^H8064 and earth^H776;

Gen 14:20

And blessed^H1288 be [fn]God^H430 Most^H5945 High^H5945,

Who^H834 has delivered^H4042 your enemies^H6862 into your hand^H3027.”

Then he gave^H5414 him a tenth^H4643 of all^H3605.

Gen 14:21

Gen 14:21And the king of Sodom said to Abram, “Give the [fn]people to me, but take the possessions for yourself.”

Gen 14:22

Gen 14:22Then Abram said to the king of Sodom, “I have [fn]raised my hand to Yahweh [fn]God Most High, [fn]possessor of heaven and earth,

Gen 14:23

Gen 14:23that I will not take a thread or a sandal strap or anything that is yours, so that you would not say, ‘I have made Abram rich.’

Gen 14:24

Gen 14:24“[fn]I will take nothing except what the young men have eaten, and the share of the men who went with me, Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre; let them take their share.”
