Ezekiel 33 (LSB) - And the word of Yahweh

¶

And the word^H1697 of Yahweh^H3068 came^H1961 to me, saying^H559,

Eze 33:2“Son of man, speak to the sons of your people and say to them, ‘If I bring a sword upon a land, and the people of the land take one man from among them and make him their watchman,

Eze 33:3

Eze 33:3and he sees the sword coming upon the land and blows on the trumpet and warns the people,

Eze 33:4

Eze 33:4then [fn]he who hears the sound of the trumpet and does not take warning, and a sword comes and takes him away, his blood will be on his own head.

Eze 33:5

Eze 33:5‘He heard the sound of the trumpet but did not take warning; his blood will be on himself. But had he taken warning, he would have escaped with his life.

Eze 33:6

Eze 33:6‘But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet and the people are not warned, and a sword comes and takes a person from them, he is taken away [fn]in his iniquity; but his blood I will require from the watchman’s hand.’

Eze 33:7

“Now as for you, son^H1121 of man^H120, I have given^H5414 you as a watchman^H6822 for the house^H1004 of Israel^H3478; so you will hear^H8085 a word^H1697 from My mouth^H6310 and give^H2094 them warning^H2094 from Me.

Eze 33:8

Eze 33:8“When I say to the wicked, ‘O wicked man, you will surely die,’ and you do not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity, but his blood I will require from your hand.

Eze 33:9

Eze 33:9“But as for you, if you on your part warn a wicked man to turn from his way and he does not turn from his way, he will die in his iniquity, but you have delivered your life.

Eze 33:10

“Now as for you, son^H1121 of man^H120, say^H559 to the house^H1004 of Israel^H3478, ‘Thus^H3651 you have spoken^H559, saying^H559, “Surely^H3588 our transgressions^H6588 and our sins^H2403 are upon us, and we are rotting^H4743 away^H4743 in them; how^H349 then can we live^H2421?”’

Eze 33:11

Eze 33:11“Say to them, ‘As I live!’ declares Lord Yahweh, ‘I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn back, turn back from your evil ways! Why then will you die, O house of Israel?’

Eze 33:12

Eze 33:12“Now as for you, son of man, say to the sons of your people, ‘The righteousness of a righteous man will not deliver him in the day of his transgression, and as for the wickedness of the wicked, he will not stumble because of it in the day when he turns from his wickedness; whereas a righteous man will not be able to live [fn]by his righteousness on the day when he commits sin.’

Eze 33:13

Eze 33:13“When I say to the righteous he will surely live, and he so trusts in his righteousness that he does iniquity, none of his righteous deeds will be remembered; but in that same iniquity of his which he has done he will die.

Eze 33:14

Eze 33:14“But when I say to the wicked, ‘You will surely die,’ and he turns from his sin and does justice and righteousness,

Eze 33:15

Eze 33:15if a wicked man restores a pledge, pays back what he has taken by robbery, walks by the statutes of life without committing iniquity, he shall surely live; he shall not die.

Eze 33:16

Eze 33:16“None of his sins that he has done will be remembered against him. He has done justice and righteousness; he shall surely live.

Eze 33:17

Eze 33:17

“Yet the sons^H1121 of your people^H5971 say^H559, ‘The way^H1870 of the Lord^H136 is not right^H8505,’ when it is their own way^H1870 that is not right^H8505.

Eze 33:18

Eze 33:18“When the righteous turns from his righteousness and does iniquity, then he shall die in [fn]it.

Eze 33:19

Eze 33:19“But when the wicked turns from his wickedness and does justice and righteousness, he will live by them.

Eze 33:20

Eze 33:20“Yet you say, ‘The way of the Lord is not right.’ O house of Israel, I will judge each of you according to his ways.”

Now it happened in the twelfth^H8147^H6240 year^H8141 of our exile^H1546, on the fifth^H2568 of the tenth^H6224 month^H2320, that those who escaped^H6412 from Jerusalem^H3389 came^H935 to me, saying^H559, “The city^H5892 has been struck^H5221 down^H5221.”

Eze 33:22

Eze 33:22Now the hand of Yahweh had been upon me in the evening, before those who escaped came. And He opened my mouth [fn]at the time they came to me in the morning; so my mouth was opened, and I was no longer mute.

Eze 33:23

Then the word^H1697 of Yahweh^H3068 came^H1961 to me saying^H559,

Eze 33:24

Eze 33:24“Son of man, they who inhabit these waste places in the land of Israel are saying, ‘Abraham was only one, yet he possessed the land; so to us who are many the land has been given as a possession.’

Eze 33:25

Eze 33:25“Therefore say to them, ‘Thus says Lord Yahweh, “You eat meat with the blood in it and lift up your eyes to your idols as you shed blood. Should you then possess the land?

Eze 33:26

Eze 33:26“You stand on account of your sword, you do abominations, and each of you defiles his neighbor’s wife. Should you then possess the land?”’

Eze 33:27

Eze 33:27“Thus you shall say to them, ‘Thus says Lord Yahweh, “As I live, surely those who are in the waste places will fall by the sword, and whoever is in the [fn]open field I will give to the beasts to be devoured, and those who are in the strongholds and in the caves will die of pestilence.

Eze 33:28

Eze 33:28“I will make the land a desolation and a desecration, and the lofty pride of her strength will cease; and the mountains of Israel will be desolate so that no one will pass through.

Eze 33:29

Eze 33:29“Then they will know that I am Yahweh, when I make the land a desolation and a desecration because of all their abominations which they have done.”’

Eze 33:30

“But as for you, son^H1121 of man^H120, the sons^H1121 of your people^H5971 who talk^H1696 about you by the walls^H7023 and in the doorways^H6607 of the houses^H1004, speak^H1696 to one^H2297 another^H259, each^H376 to his brother^H251, saying^H559, ‘Come^H935 now^H4994 and hear^H8085 what^H4100 the word^H1697 is which comes^H3318 forth^H3318 from Yahweh^H3068.’

Eze 33:31

Eze 33:31“They come to you as people come and sit before you as My people and hear your words, but they do not do them, for they do the lustful desires expressed by their mouth, and their heart goes after their greedy gain.

Eze 33:32

Eze 33:32“Behold, you are to them like a lustful song by one who has a beautiful voice and plays well on an instrument; for they hear your words but they do not do them.

Eze 33:33

Eze 33:33“So when it comes to pass—behold, it is coming—then they will know that a prophet has been in their midst.”
