Setting Apart the Priests

(Lev 8:1–36 )

“Now this^H2088 is [fn]what^H1697^H834 you shall do^H6213 to them to set^H6942 them apart^H6942 as^H6942 holy^H6942 to minister^H3547 as^H3547 priests^H3547 to Me: take^H3947 one^H259 bull^H6499 from the herd^H1121^H1241 and two^H8147 rams^H352 without^H8549 blemish^H8549,

Exo 29:2

Exo 29:2and unleavened bread and unleavened cakes mixed with oil, and unleavened wafers [fn]spread with oil; you shall make them of fine wheat flour.

Exo 29:3

Exo 29:3“And you shall put them in one basket and bring them near in the basket along with the bull and the two rams.

Exo 29:4

Exo 29:4“Then you shall bring Aaron and his sons near to the doorway of the tent of meeting and wash them with water.

Exo 29:5

Exo 29:5“And you shall take the garments, and put on Aaron the tunic and the robe of the ephod and the ephod and the [fn]breastpiece, and gird him with the skillfully woven band of the ephod;

Exo 29:6

Exo 29:6and you shall set the turban on his head and put the holy crown on the turban.

Exo 29:7

Exo 29:7“Then you shall take the anointing oil and pour it on his head and anoint him.

Exo 29:8

Exo 29:8“And you shall bring his sons near and put tunics on them.

Exo 29:9

Exo 29:9“You shall gird them with sashes, Aaron and his sons, and bind [fn]caps on them, and they shall have the priesthood by a perpetual statute. So you shall [fn]ordain Aaron and his sons.

Slaughtering the Offerings

Exo 29:10

“Then you shall bring^H7126 the bull^H6499 near before^H6440 the tent^H168 of meeting^H4150, and Aaron^H175 and his sons^H1121 shall lay^H5564 their hands^H3027 on the head^H7218 of the bull^H6499.

Exo 29:11

Exo 29:11“You shall slaughter the bull before Yahweh at the doorway of the tent of meeting.

Exo 29:12

Exo 29:12“You shall take some of the blood of the bull and put it on the horns of the altar with your finger; and you shall pour out all the blood at the base of the altar.

Exo 29:13

Exo 29:13“You shall take all the fat that covers the entrails and the [fn]lobe of the liver and the two kidneys and the fat that is on them, and you shall offer them up in smoke on the altar.

Exo 29:14

Exo 29:14“But the flesh of the bull and its hide and its refuse, you shall burn with fire outside the camp; it is a sin offering.

Exo 29:15

“You shall also take^H3947 the one^H259 ram^H352, and Aaron^H175 and his sons^H1121 shall lay^H5564 their hands^H3027 on the head^H7218 of the ram^H352;

Exo 29:16

Exo 29:16and you shall slaughter the ram, and you shall take its blood and splash it around on the altar.

Exo 29:17

Exo 29:17“Then you shall cut the ram into its pieces, and wash its entrails and its legs, and put them [fn]with its pieces and [fn]its head.

Exo 29:18

Exo 29:18“You shall offer up in smoke the whole ram on the altar; it is a burnt offering to Yahweh: it is a soothing aroma, an offering by fire to Yahweh.

Exo 29:19

“Then you shall take^H3947 the second^H8145 ram^H352, and Aaron^H175 and his sons^H1121 shall lay^H5564 their hands^H3027 on the head^H7218 of the ram^H352.

Exo 29:20

Exo 29:20“You shall slaughter the ram, and take some of its blood and put it on the lobe of Aaron’s right ear and on the lobes of his sons’ right ears and on the thumbs of their right hands and on the big toes of their right feet, and splash the rest of the blood around on the altar.

Exo 29:21

Exo 29:21“Then you shall take some of the blood that is on the altar and some of the anointing oil, and sprinkle it on Aaron and on his garments and on his sons and on his sons’ garments with him; so he and his garments shall be set apart as holy, as well as his sons and his sons’ garments with him.

Exo 29:22

“You shall also take^H3947 the fat^H2459 from the ram^H352 and the fat^H451 tail^H451 and the fat^H2459 that covers^H3680 the entrails^H7130 and the [fn]lobe^H3508 of the liver^H3516 and the two^H8147 kidneys^H3629 and the fat^H2459 that is on them and the right^H3225 thigh^H7785 (for it is a ram^H352 of [fn]ordination^H4394),

Exo 29:23

Exo 29:23and one cake of bread and one cake of bread mixed with oil and one wafer from the basket of unleavened bread which is set before Yahweh;

Exo 29:24

Exo 29:24and you shall put [fn]all these [fn]in the [fn]hands of Aaron and [fn]in the [fn]hands of his sons, and you shall wave them as a wave offering before Yahweh.

Exo 29:25

Exo 29:25“You shall take them from their hands and offer them up in smoke on the altar on the burnt offering for a soothing aroma before Yahweh; it is an offering by fire to Yahweh.

Exo 29:26

“Then you shall take^H3947 the breast^H2373 of Aaron’s^H175 ram^H352 of [fn]ordination^H4394 and wave^H5130 it as a wave^H8573 offering^H8573 before^H6440 Yahweh^H3068; and it shall be your portion^H4490.

Exo 29:27

Exo 29:27“You shall set apart as holy the breast of the wave offering and the thigh of the [fn]contribution offering which was waved and which was [fn]raised up as a contribution from the ram of [fn]ordination, from the one which was for Aaron and from the one which was for his sons.

Exo 29:28

Exo 29:28“It shall be for Aaron and his sons as a perpetual statute from the sons of Israel, for it is a [fn]contribution offering; and it shall be a [fn]contribution offering from the sons of Israel from the sacrifices of their peace offerings, even their [fn]contribution offering to Yahweh.

Exo 29:29

“The holy^H6944 garments^H899 of Aaron^H175 shall be for his sons^H1121 after^H310 him, [fn]that in them they may be anointed^H4886 and ordained^H4390^H3027.

Exo 29:30

Exo 29:30“For seven days the one of his sons who is priest in his stead shall put them on when he comes into the tent of meeting to minister in the holy place.

Yahweh Will Meet and Speak to Israel

Exo 29:31

“You shall take^H3947 the ram^H352 of [fn]ordination^H4394 and boil^H1310 its flesh^H1320 in a holy^H6918 place^H4725.

Exo 29:32

Exo 29:32“Aaron and his sons shall eat the flesh of the ram and the bread that is in the basket, at the doorway of the tent of meeting.

Exo 29:33

Exo 29:33“Thus they shall eat [fn]those things by which atonement was made [fn]to ordain them, [fn]to set them apart as holy; but a [fn]layman shall not eat them, because they are holy.

Exo 29:34

Exo 29:34“If any of the flesh of [fn]ordination or any of the bread remains until morning, then you shall burn the remainder with fire; it shall not be eaten, because it is holy.

Exo 29:35

“Thus^H3602 you shall do^H6213 to Aaron^H175 and to his sons^H1121, according to all^H3605 that I have commanded^H6680 you; you shall [fn]ordain^H4390^H3027 them through seven^H7651 days^H3117.

Exo 29:36

Exo 29:36“Each day you shall offer a bull as a sin offering for atonement, and you shall [fn]purify the altar when you make atonement [fn]for it, and you shall anoint it to set it apart as holy.

Exo 29:37

Exo 29:37“For seven days you shall make atonement [fn]for the altar and set it apart as holy; then the altar shall be most holy, and whatever touches the altar shall be holy.

Exo 29:38

“Now this^H2088 is what^H834 you shall offer^H6213 on the altar^H4196: two^H8147 one year^H8141 old^H1121 lambs^H3532 each day^H3117, continuously^H8548.

Exo 29:39

Exo 29:39“The one lamb you shall offer in the morning, and the second lamb you shall offer [fn]at twilight;

Exo 29:40

Exo 29:40and there shall be [fn]one-tenth of an ephah of fine flour mixed with one-fourth of a [fn]hin of beaten oil, and one-fourth of a hin of wine for a drink offering with the one lamb.

Exo 29:41

Exo 29:41“The second lamb you shall offer [fn]at twilight, and you shall offer with it [fn]the same grain offering and [fn]the same drink offering as in the morning, for a soothing aroma, an offering by fire to Yahweh.

Exo 29:42

Exo 29:42“It shall be a continual burnt offering throughout your generations at the doorway of the tent of meeting before Yahweh, where I will meet with you, to speak to you there.
