The Birth of Moses

(Heb 11:23 )

And a man^H376 from the house^H1004 of Levi^H3878 went^H1980 and took^H3947 a daughter^H1323 of Levi^H3878 as a wife.

Exo 2:2And the woman conceived and bore a son; and she saw [fn]that he was [fn]beautiful, so she hid him for three months.

Exo 2:3

Exo 2:3But she could not hide him any longer. So she took for him [fn]an ark of papyrus reeds and covered it over with tar and pitch. Then she put the child into it and put it among the reeds by the bank of the Nile.

Exo 2:4

Exo 2:4And his sister stood at a distance to know what would be done to him.

Exo 2:5

And the daughter^H1323 of Pharaoh^H6547 came^H3381 down^H3381 to bathe^H7364 at the Nile^H2975, with her young^H5291 women^H5291 walking^H1980 alongside^H5921^H3027 the Nile^H2975; and she saw^H7200 the [fn]ark^H8392 among^H8432 the reeds^H5488 and sent^H7971 her maidservant^H519, and she took^H3947 it to her.

Exo 2:6

Exo 2:6Then she opened it and [fn]saw the child. And behold, the [fn]boy was crying. And she had pity on him and said, “This is one of the Hebrews’ children.”

Exo 2:7

Exo 2:7Then his sister said to Pharaoh’s daughter, “Shall I go and call [fn]a nurse for you from the Hebrew women that she may nurse the child for you?”

Exo 2:8

Exo 2:8And Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Go.” So the [fn]girl went and called the child’s mother.

Exo 2:9

Exo 2:9Then Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Take this child away and nurse him for me, and I will give you your wages.” So the woman took the child and nursed him.

Exo 2:10

Exo 2:10And the child grew, and she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. And she named him [fn]Moses and said, “Because I [fn]drew him out of the water.”

Moses Flees to Midian

(Heb 11:24, 25 )

Exo 2:11

Now it happened^H1961 in those^H1992 days^H3117, that Moses^H4872 had grown^H1431 up^H1431. And he went^H3318 out^H3318 to his brothers^H251 and looked^H7200 on their [fn]hard^H5450 labors^H5450. And he saw^H7200 an Egyptian^H4713 striking^H5221 a Hebrew^H5680, one^H4480 of his brothers^H251.

Exo 2:12

Exo 2:12So he turned this way and that, and he saw that there was no one around. So he struck down the Egyptian and hid him in the sand.

Exo 2:13

Exo 2:13Then he went out the next day, and behold, two Hebrews were struggling with each other; and he said to the [fn]wicked one, “Why are you striking your companion?”

Exo 2:14

Exo 2:14But he said, “Who made you a [fn]ruler or a judge over us? Are you [fn]intending to kill me as you killed the Egyptian?” Then Moses was afraid and said, “Surely the matter has become known.”

Exo 2:15

Exo 2:15And Pharaoh heard of this matter, so he sought to kill Moses. But Moses fled from the presence of Pharaoh and settled in the land of Midian, and he [fn]sat down by a well.

Exo 2:16

Exo 2:16Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters; and they came and drew water and filled the troughs to give water to their father’s flock to drink.

Exo 2:17

Exo 2:17Then the shepherds came and drove them away, but Moses rose up and saved them and gave water to their flock to drink.

Exo 2:18

Exo 2:18Then they came to Reuel their father, and he said, “Why have you come back so soon today?”

Exo 2:19

Exo 2:19So they said, “An Egyptian delivered us from the hand of the shepherds, and he actually even drew the water for us and gave water to the flock to drink.”

Exo 2:20

Exo 2:20And he said to his daughters, “Where is he then? Why is it that you have left the man behind? Call him so that he may eat bread.”

Exo 2:21

Exo 2:21And Moses was willing to settle down with the man, and he gave his daughter Zipporah to Moses.

Exo 2:22

Exo 2:22Then she gave birth to a son, and he named him [fn]Gershom, for he said, “I have been a [fn]sojourner in a foreign land.”

God Hears Israel’s Groaning

Exo 2:23

Now it happened^H1961 in the course of those^H1992 many^H7227 days^H3117 that the king^H4428 of Egypt^H4714 died^H4191. And the sons^H1121 of Israel^H3478 sighed^H584 because^H4480 of the slavery^H5656, and they cried^H2199 out^H2199; and their cry^H7775 for^H7775 help^H7775 because^H4480 of their slavery^H5656 rose^H5927 up^H5927 to God^H430.
