Esther Prepares a Feast

Now it happened^H1961 on the third^H7992 day^H3117, that Esther^H635 put^H3847 on^H3847 her royal^H4438 robes^H3847 and stood^H5975 in the inner^H6442 court^H2691 of the king’s^H4428 house^H1004 in front^H5227 of the king’s^H4428 [fn]rooms^H1004, and the king^H4428 was sitting^H3427 on his royal^H4438 throne^H3678 in the [fn]throne^H4438 room^H1004, opposite^H5227 the entrance^H6607 to his house^H1004.

Est 5:2

Est 5:2Now it happened that when the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court, she advanced in favor in his eyes; and the king extended to Esther the golden scepter which was in his hand. So Esther came near and [fn]reached out and touched the top of the scepter.

Est 5:3

Est 5:3Then the king said to her, “What is troubling you, Queen Esther? And what is [fn]your request? Even to half of the kingdom it shall be given to you.”

Est 5:4

Est 5:4And Esther said, “If it seems good to the king, may the king and Haman come this day to the feast that I have prepared for him.”

Est 5:5

Then the king^H4428 said^H559, “Bring^H4116 Haman^H2001 quickly^H4116 that we may do^H6213 the word^H1697 of Esther^H635.” So the king^H4428 and Haman^H2001 came^H935 to the feast^H4960 which^H834 Esther^H635 had prepared^H6213.

Est 5:6

Est 5:6Then, [fn]as they drank their wine at the feast, the king said to Esther, “What is [fn]your petition? For it shall be given to you. And what is [fn]your request? Even to half of the kingdom it shall be done.”

Est 5:7

Est 5:7So Esther answered and said, “[fn]My petition and [fn]my request is:

Est 5:8

Est 5:8if I have found favor in the eyes of the king, and if it seems good to the king to give heed to [fn]my petition and to do [fn]my request, may the king and Haman come to the feast which I will prepare for them, and tomorrow I will do according to the word of the king.”

Haman Recounts His Glory

Est 5:9

Then Haman^H2001 went^H3318 out^H3318 that day^H3117 glad^H8056 and merry^H2896 of heart^H3820; but when Haman^H2001 saw^H7200 Mordecai^H4782 in the king’s^H4428 gate^H8179 and that he did not stand^H6965 up^H6965 or [fn]tremble^H2111 before^H4480 him, Haman^H2001 was filled^H4390 with wrath^H2534 against^H5921 Mordecai^H4782.

Est 5:10

Est 5:10But Haman controlled himself, went to his house, and sent for and brought his friends and his wife Zeresh.

Est 5:11

Est 5:11Then Haman recounted to them the glory of his riches and the [fn]number of his sons and every instance where the king had magnified him and how he had [fn]advanced him above the princes and servants of the king.

Est 5:12

Est 5:12Haman also said, “Even Esther the queen let no one but me come with the king to the feast which she had prepared; and tomorrow also I am called to come to her with the king.

Est 5:13

Est 5:13“Yet all of this is worth nothing to me every time I see Mordecai the Jew sitting at the king’s gate.”

Est 5:14

Est 5:14Then Zeresh his wife and all his friends said to him, “Have a [fn]gallows [fn]fifty cubits high made and in the morning say to the king that Mordecai should be hanged on it; then go gladly with the king to the feast.” And the word was good to Haman, so he had the gallows made.
