Be Imitators of God

Therefore^G3767 be imitators^G3402 of God^G2316, as beloved^G27 children^G5043,

Eph 5:2and walk in love, just as Christ also loved [fn]us and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God [fn]as a fragrant aroma.

Eph 5:3

But sexual^G4202 immorality^G4202 [fn]or^G2532 any^G3956 impurity^G167 or^G2228 greed^G4124 must not even^G3366 be named^G3687 among^G1722 you, as is proper^G4241 among [fn]saints^G40;

Eph 5:4

Eph 5:4nor filthiness and foolish talk, or coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks.

Eph 5:5

Eph 5:5For this you know with certainty, that no one sexually immoral or impure or greedy, who is an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.

Eph 5:6

Let no^G3367 one^G3367 deceive^G538 you with empty^G2756 words^G3056, for because^G1223 of these^G3778 things^G3778 the wrath^G3709 of God^G2316 comes^G2064 upon the sons^G5207 of disobedience^G543.

Eph 5:7

Eph 5:7Therefore do not be partakers with them,

Eph 5:8

Eph 5:8for you were formerly darkness, but now you are light in the Lord; walk as children of light

Eph 5:9

Eph 5:9(for the fruit of that light consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth),

Eph 5:10

Eph 5:10 [fn]trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord.

Eph 5:11

Eph 5:11And do not participate in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead even [fn]expose them.

Eph 5:12

Eph 5:12For it is disgraceful even to speak of the things which are done by them in secret.

Eph 5:13

Eph 5:13But all things become visible when they are [fn]exposed by the light, for everything that becomes visible is light.

Eph 5:14

Eph 5:14For this reason [fn]it says,

“Awake^G1453, sleeper^G2518,

And arise^G450 from the dead^G3498,

And Christ^G5547 will shine^G2017 on^G2017 you.”

Eph 5:15

Therefore^G3767 look^G991 carefully^G199 how^G4459 you walk^G4043, not as unwise^G781 but as wise^G4680,

Eph 5:16

Eph 5:16redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

Eph 5:17

Eph 5:17On account of this, do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

Eph 5:18

Eph 5:18And do not get drunk with wine, [fn]for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit,

Eph 5:19

Eph 5:19speaking to [fn]one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord;

Eph 5:20

Eph 5:20always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to [fn]God, even the Father;

Eph 5:21

Eph 5:21 [fn]and being subject to one another in the [fn]fear of Christ.

Wives and Husbands

(cf. Col 3:18, 19 )

Eph 5:22

Wives^G1135, be subject to your own^G2398 husbands^G435, as to the Lord^G2962.

Eph 5:23

Eph 5:23For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church, He Himself being the Savior of the body.

Eph 5:24

Eph 5:24But as the church is subject to Christ, so also the wives ought to be to their husbands in everything.

Eph 5:25

Husbands^G435, love^G25 your wives^G1135, just^G2531 as Christ^G5547 also^G2532 loved^G25 the church^G1577 and gave^G3860 Himself^G1438 up^G3860 for her,

Eph 5:26

Eph 5:26so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word,

Eph 5:27

Eph 5:27that He might present to Himself the church [fn]in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she would be holy and blameless.

Eph 5:28

Eph 5:28So husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself;

Eph 5:29

Eph 5:29for no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ also does the church,

Eph 5:30

Eph 5:30because we are members of His body.

Eph 5:31

Eph 5:31FOR THIS REASON A MAN SHALL LEAVE HIS FATHER AND MOTHER AND BE JOINED TO HIS WIFE, AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH.

Eph 5:32

Eph 5:32This mystery is great, but I am speaking with reference to Christ and the church.

Eph 5:33

Eph 5:33Nevertheless, each individual among you also is to love his own wife even as himself, and the wife must see to it that she [fn]respects her husband.
