Israel Takes Possession of the Land

(Num 21:33–35 )

“Then we turned^H6437 and went^H5927 up^H5927 the road^H1870 to Bashan^H1316, and Og^H5747 king^H4428 of Bashan^H1316, [fn]with all^H3605 his people^H5971, came^H3318 out^H3318 to meet^H7122 us in battle^H4421 at Edrei^H154.

Deu 3:2

Deu 3:2“But Yahweh said to me, ‘Do not fear him, for I have given him and all his people and his land over into your hand; and you shall do to him just as you did to Sihon king of the Amorites, who lived at Heshbon.’

Deu 3:3

Deu 3:3“So Yahweh our God also gave Og, king of Bashan, with all his people over into our hand, and we struck [fn]them until [fn]there was no survivor remaining for him.

Deu 3:4

Deu 3:4“And we captured all his cities at that time; there was not a town which we did not take from them: sixty cities, all the region of Argob, the kingdom of Og in Bashan.

Deu 3:5

Deu 3:5“All these were cities fortified with high walls, gates and bars, besides a great many [fn]unwalled towns.

Deu 3:6

Deu 3:6“And we [fn]devoted them to destruction, as we did to Sihon king of Heshbon, [fn]devoting to destruction [fn]the men, women, and little ones of every city.

Deu 3:7

Deu 3:7“But all the animals and the spoil of the cities we took as our plunder.

Deu 3:8

“Thus we took^H3947 the land^H776 at that time^H6256 from the hand^H3027 of the two^H8147 kings^H4428 of the Amorites^H567 who^H834 were beyond^H5676 the Jordan^H3383, from the [fn]valley^H5158 of Arnon^H769 to Mount^H2022 Hermon^H2768

Deu 3:10

Deu 3:10all the cities of the plateau and all Gilead and all Bashan, as far as Salecah and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan.

Deu 3:11

Deu 3:11(For only Og king of Bashan remained of the remnant of the Rephaim. Behold, his [fn]bedstead was an iron [fn]bedstead; it is in Rabbah of the sons of Ammon. Its length was [fn]nine cubits, and its width four cubits [fn]by ordinary cubit.)

Deu 3:12

“So we took^H3423 possession^H3423 of this^H2088 land^H776 at that time^H6256. From Aroer^H6177, which^H834 is by the [fn]valley^H5158 of Arnon^H769, and half^H2677 the hill^H2022 country^H2022 of Gilead^H1568 and its cities^H5892 I gave^H5414 to the Reubenites^H7206 and to the Gadites^H1425.

Deu 3:13“And the rest of Gilead and all Bashan, the kingdom of Og, I gave to the half-tribe of Manasseh, all the region of Argob. (Concerning all Bashan, it is called the land of Rephaim.

Deu 3:14

Deu 3:14Jair the son of Manasseh took all the region of Argob as far as the border of the Geshurites and the Maacathites and called [fn]it—that is, Bashan—after his own name, [fn]Havvoth-jair, as it is to this day.)

Deu 3:15

Deu 3:15“And to Machir I gave Gilead.

Deu 3:16

Deu 3:16“And to the Reubenites and to the Gadites I gave from Gilead even as far as the [fn]valley of Arnon, the middle of the [fn]valley [fn]as a border and as far as the [fn]river Jabbok, the border of the sons of Ammon;

Deu 3:17

Deu 3:17the Arabah also, with the Jordan [fn]as a border, from [fn]Chinnereth even as far as the sea of the Arabah, the Salt Sea, [fn]at the foot of the slopes of Pisgah on the east.

Deu 3:18

“Then I commanded^H6680 you at that time^H6256, saying^H559, ‘Yahweh^H3068 your God^H430 has given^H5414 you this^H2088 land^H776 to possess^H3423 it; all^H3605 you men^H1121 of valor^H2428 shall cross^H5674 over^H5674 armed^H2502 before^H6440 your brothers^H251, the sons^H1121 of Israel^H3478.

Deu 3:19

Deu 3:19‘But your wives and your little ones and your livestock (I know that you have much livestock) shall remain in your cities which I have given you,

Deu 3:20

Deu 3:20until Yahweh gives rest to your brothers as to you, and they also possess the land which Yahweh your God will give them beyond the Jordan. Then you may return, every man to his possession which I have given you.’

Deu 3:21

Deu 3:21“And I commanded Joshua at that time, saying, ‘Your eyes have seen all that Yahweh your God has done to these two kings; so Yahweh shall do to all the kingdoms into which you are about to cross.

Deu 3:22

Deu 3:22‘Do not fear them, for Yahweh your God is the one fighting for you.’

Moses Pleads to Cross the Jordan

Deu 3:23

“I also pleaded^H2603 with Yahweh^H3068 at that time^H6256, saying^H559,

Deu 3:24

Deu 3:24‘O Lord Yahweh, You have begun to show Your slave Your greatness and Your strong hand; for what god is there in heaven or on earth who can do such works and mighty acts as Yours?

Deu 3:25

Deu 3:25‘Let me, I pray, cross over and see the good land that is beyond the Jordan, [fn]that good hill country and Lebanon.’

Deu 3:26

Deu 3:26“But Yahweh was angry with me on your account and would not listen to me; and Yahweh said to me, ‘[fn]Enough! Speak to Me no more of this matter.

Deu 3:27

Deu 3:27‘Go up to the top of Pisgah and lift up your eyes to the west and north and south and east, and see it with your eyes, for you shall not cross over this Jordan.

Deu 3:28

Deu 3:28‘But command Joshua and strengthen him and encourage him, for he shall go across [fn]at the head of this people, and he will cause them to inherit the land which you will see.’

Deu 3:29

Deu 3:29“So we remained in the valley opposite Beth-peor.
