The Covenant in Moab

[fn]These^H428 are the words^H1697 of the covenant^H1285 which^H834 Yahweh^H3068 commanded^H6680 Moses^H4872 to cut^H3772 with the sons^H1121 of Israel^H3478 in the land^H776 of Moab^H4124, besides^H4480^H905 the covenant^H1285 which^H834 He had cut^H3772 with them at Horeb^H2722.

Deu 29:2

[fn]And Moses^H4872 summoned^H7121 all^H3605 Israel^H3478 and said^H559 to them, “You have seen^H7200 all^H3605 that Yahweh^H3068 did^H6213 before your eyes^H5869 in the land^H776 of Egypt^H4714 to Pharaoh^H6547 and all^H3605 his servants^H5650 and all^H3605 his land^H776;

Deu 29:3

Deu 29:3the great trials which your eyes have seen, those great signs and wonders.

Deu 29:4

Deu 29:4“Yet to this day Yahweh has not given you a heart to know, nor eyes to see, nor ears to hear.

Deu 29:5

Deu 29:5“And I have led you forty years in the wilderness; your clothes have not worn out on you, and your sandal has not worn out on your foot.

Deu 29:6

Deu 29:6“You have not eaten bread, nor have you drunk wine or strong drink, in order that you might know that I am Yahweh your God.

Deu 29:7

Deu 29:7“Then you came to this place, and Sihon the king of Heshbon and Og the king of Bashan came out to meet us for battle, but we struck them down;

Deu 29:8

Deu 29:8and we took their land and gave it as an inheritance to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of the Manassites.

Deu 29:9

Deu 29:9“So you shall keep the words of this covenant to do them, that you may prosper in all that you do.

Deu 29:10

“You stand^H5324 today^H3117, all^H3605 of you, before^H6440 Yahweh^H3068 your God^H430: your heads^H7218, your tribes^H7626, your elders^H2205, and your officers^H7860, even all^H3605 the men^H376 of Israel^H3478,

Deu 29:11

Deu 29:11your little ones, your wives, and the sojourner who is within your camps, from the one who chops your wood to the one who draws your water,

Deu 29:12

Deu 29:12that you may enter into the covenant with Yahweh your God and into His oath, which Yahweh your God is cutting with you today,

Deu 29:13

Deu 29:13in order that He may establish you today as His people and that He may be your God, just as He spoke to you and as He swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.

Deu 29:14

“Now not with you alone^H905 am I cutting^H3772 this^H2088 covenant^H1285 and this^H2088 oath^H423,

Deu 29:15

Deu 29:15but both with those who stand here with us today in the presence of Yahweh our God and with those who are not with us here today—

Deu 29:16

Deu 29:16for you know how we lived in the land of Egypt, and how we came through the midst of the nations through which you passed;

Deu 29:17

Deu 29:17moreover, you have seen their detestable things and their idols of wood, stone, silver, and gold, which they had with them—

Deu 29:18

Deu 29:18lest there be among you a man or woman, or family or tribe, whose heart turns away today from Yahweh our God, to go to serve the gods of those nations; lest there be among you a root bearing poisonous fruit and wormwood.

Deu 29:19

Deu 29:19“And it will be when he hears the words of this curse, that he will [fn]bless himself in his heart, saying, ‘I have peace though I walk in the stubbornness of my heart in order [fn]to sweep away the watered land with the dry.’

Deu 29:20

Deu 29:20“Yahweh shall not be willing to pardon him, but rather the anger of Yahweh and His jealousy will [fn]burn against that man, and every curse which is written in this book will [fn]rest on him, and Yahweh will blot out his name from under heaven.

Deu 29:21

Deu 29:21“Then Yahweh will separate him out for [fn]adversity from all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses of the covenant which are written in this book of the law.

Deu 29:22

“And the generation^H1755 to come^H314, your sons^H1121 who^H834 rise^H6965 up^H6965 after^H4480^H310 you and the foreigner^H5237 who^H834 comes^H935 from a distant^H7350 land^H776, shall see^H7200 the plagues^H4347 of the land^H776 and the diseases^H8463 with which^H834 Yahweh^H3068 has [fn]afflicted^H2470 it, and they will say^H559,

Deu 29:23

Deu 29:23‘All its land is brimstone and salt, a burning waste, [fn]unsown and nothing sprouting, and no grass grows in it, like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which Yahweh overthrew in His anger and in His wrath.’

Deu 29:24

Deu 29:24“And all the nations will say, ‘Why has Yahweh done thus to this land? Why this great burning anger?’

Deu 29:25

Deu 29:25“Then men will say, ‘Because they forsook the covenant of Yahweh, the God of their fathers, which He cut with them when He brought them out of the land of Egypt.

Deu 29:26

Deu 29:26‘And they went and served other gods and worshiped them, gods whom they have not known and whom He had not apportioned to them.

Deu 29:27

Deu 29:27‘Therefore, the anger of Yahweh was kindled against that land, to bring upon it every curse which is written in this book;

Deu 29:28

Deu 29:28and Yahweh uprooted them from their land in anger and in fury and in great wrath, and He cast them into another land, as it is this day.’

Deu 29:29

“The secret^H5641 things^H5641 belong to Yahweh^H3068 our God^H430, but the things^H1540 revealed^H1540 belong to us and to our sons^H1121 forever^H5704^H5769, that we may do^H6213 all^H3605 the words^H1697 of this^H2088 law^H8451.
