Curses on Mount Ebal

Then Moses^H4872 and the elders^H2205 of Israel^H3478 commanded^H6680 the people^H5971, saying^H559, “Keep^H8104 the entire^H3605 commandment^H4687 which^H834 I am commanding^H6680 you today^H3117.

Deu 27:2

Deu 27:2“So it will be on the day when you cross the Jordan to the land which Yahweh your God gives you, that you shall set up for yourself large stones and coat them with lime

Deu 27:3

Deu 27:3and write on them all the words of this law when you cross over, so that you may enter the land which Yahweh your God gives you, a land flowing with milk and honey, as Yahweh, the God of your fathers, [fn]promised you.

Deu 27:4

Deu 27:4“So it will be when you cross the Jordan, you shall set up on Mount Ebal, these stones, [fn]as I am commanding you today, and you shall coat them with lime.

Deu 27:5

Deu 27:5“Moreover, you shall build there an altar to Yahweh your God, an altar of stones; you shall not [fn]wield an iron tool on them.

Deu 27:6

Deu 27:6“You shall build the altar of Yahweh your God of [fn]uncut stones, and you shall offer on it burnt offerings to Yahweh your God;

Deu 27:7

Deu 27:7and you shall sacrifice peace offerings and eat there and be glad before Yahweh your God.

Deu 27:8

Deu 27:8“And you shall write on the [fn]stones all the words of this law very distinctly.”

Deu 27:9

Then Moses^H4872 and the Levitical^H3881 priests^H3548 spoke^H1696 to all^H3605 Israel^H3478, saying^H559, “Be silent^H5535 and listen^H8085, O Israel^H3478! This^H2088 day^H3117 you have become^H1961 a people^H5971 for Yahweh^H3068 your God^H430.

Deu 27:10

Deu 27:10“You shall therefore listen to the voice of Yahweh your God and do His commandments and His statutes which I am commanding you today.”

Deu 27:11

Moses^H4872 also commanded^H6680 the people^H5971 on that day^H3117, saying^H559,

Deu 27:12

Deu 27:12“When you cross the Jordan, these shall stand on Mount Gerizim to bless the people: Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Joseph, and Benjamin.

Deu 27:13

Deu 27:13“For the curse, these shall stand on Mount Ebal: Reuben, Gad, Asher, Zebulun, Dan, and Naphtali.

Deu 27:14

Deu 27:14“The Levites shall then answer and say to all the men of Israel with a loud voice,

Deu 27:15

‘Cursed^H779 is the man^H376 who^H834 makes^H6213 a graven^H6459 image^H6459 or a molten^H4541 image^H4541, an abomination^H8441 to Yahweh^H3068, the work^H4639 of the hands^H3027 of the craftsman^H2796, and sets^H7760 it up^H7760 in secret^H5643.’ And all^H3605 the people^H5971 shall answer^H6030 and say^H559, ‘Amen^H543.’

Deu 27:16

‘Cursed^H779 is he who dishonors^H7034 his father^H1 or mother^H517.’ And all^H3605 the people^H5971 shall say^H559, ‘Amen^H543.’

Deu 27:17

‘Cursed^H779 is he who moves^H5472 his neighbor’s^H7453 boundary^H1366 mark.’ And all^H3605 the people^H5971 shall say^H559, ‘Amen^H543.’

Deu 27:18

‘Cursed^H779 is he who leads^H7686 a blind^H5787 person astray^H7686 on the road^H1870.’ And all^H3605 the people^H5971 shall say^H559, ‘Amen^H543.’

Deu 27:19

‘Cursed^H779 is he who perverts^H5186 the justice^H4941 due a sojourner^H1616, [fn]orphan^H3490, and widow^H490.’ And all^H3605 the people^H5971 shall say^H559, ‘Amen^H543.’

Deu 27:20

‘Cursed^H779 is he who lies^H7901 with his father’s^H1 wife^H802 because^H3588 he has uncovered^H1540 his father’s^H1 skirt^H3671.’ And all^H3605 the people^H5971 shall say^H559, ‘Amen^H543.’

Deu 27:21

‘Cursed^H779 is he who lies^H7901 with any^H3605 animal^H929.’ And all^H3605 the people^H5971 shall say^H559, ‘Amen^H543.’

Deu 27:22

‘Cursed^H779 is he who lies^H7901 with his sister^H269, the daughter^H1323 of his father^H1 or^H176 the daughter^H1323 of his mother^H517.’ And all^H3605 the people^H5971 shall say^H559, ‘Amen^H543.’

Deu 27:23

‘Cursed^H779 is he who lies^H7901 with his mother-in-law^H2859.’ And all^H3605 the people^H5971 shall say^H559, ‘Amen^H543.’

Deu 27:24

‘Cursed^H779 is he who strikes^H5221 his neighbor^H7453 in secret^H5643.’ And all^H3605 the people^H5971 shall say^H559, ‘Amen^H543.’

Deu 27:25

‘Cursed^H779 is he who takes^H3947 a bribe^H7810 to strike^H5221 down^H5221 [fn]innocent^H5355 blood^H5315.’ And all^H3605 the people^H5971 shall say^H559, ‘Amen^H543.’

Deu 27:26

‘Cursed^H779 is he who^H834 does not confirm^H6965 the words^H1697 of this^H2088 law^H8451 by doing^H6213 them.’ And all^H3605 the people^H5971 shall say^H559, ‘Amen^H543.’
